  1. Holy cow! What a joy to watch such a high quality LEGO video! Many thanks for sharing it with us and good luck on book sales. Many of us are acquiring quite a library of LEGO books these days, and they are a source of much inspiration.
  2. It is amazing reading about heroic efforts folks have made to bricklink Cafe Corner and Green Grocer! Quite impressive. Learned so much from reading most of this thread. I was not aware how often they change parts used in a set. And how many parts go out of production. Having built both of these modulars only from new sets, this thread makes me appreciate the original parts on my shelves and how hard it is to BL these buggers. And makes me buy a new modular when it is introduced rather than risk not getting one later. To the hardy souls who have shared their tales here, thanks!
  3. Meiko, I agree. Rome is a tough one for Architecture sets. So many of the famous buildings are round, too, which makes it tougher unless one is in love with macaroni bricks in 18 different diameters. (Actually I would love those bricks personally as my round creations stink.) Maybe it is time for Architecture to address the "BIg Arch" issue as Paris with its Triumph (on top is one of my favorite views of Paris on a clear day) and Rome with its many famous arches; they could be nice sets. Herky, I hope they make 100,000 more MBS if the demand is there. Looks perfect parked next to my UN building. I love the whatever blue windows on those seats….look really cool! I have decided if there is an Arch set I really want and can't get, I'm gonna hang a full size photo of it on my shelf (right next to the real brick sets) and let it go. Thanks for the update!
  4. I see ripped open LEGO boxes every time I am in WalMart. Very very sad. Not sure what they do with them. When I first started collecting LEGO for me (after 15 years of buying it for our boys), my favorite colors were light yellow and sand green. Both were very rare at the time. I did not know about BL and bought many bricks off eBay. Just happened to notice a seller offering some new light yellow bricks and made offers on about ten of his auctions. It seemed almost no one noticed the listings because I won most of the listings for under 10US and picked up for about 5US around fifty new 1 X 1 light yellow bricks, which seem to have never appeared in a set. This was around 2007, and it was quite risky even looking for light yellow bricks because most eBay sellers did not know that color and listed all kinds of colors as light yellow. Today I still consider that my best find even though I had no idea how rare that brick is. BTW you can often buy one new brick like that on BL for 2US or more, but no one seems to offer more than one new one.
  5. LWT, this is an admirable plan and quite a challenge! You might take the tan bricks from whatever other sets are lying around and replace them with white or some other neutral color like bley. The cat lady's apt us lovely! And so many of us have wondered what the heck should we build from our lovely Friends' sets. Yup, it is time to remove them from the top of the knee wall around our stairwell and put them to use. But I am not dismantling my dolphin cruiser because who knows when the Great Flood or global warming might require a pastelly houseboat as part of ones survival plan! Glad you a have a set of small, willing hands in the product testing dept. When my son was three to ten, I regularly trolled WM stores after Christmas because of their regular 70 per cent or more markdowns. That us where most of our older sets came from, but is no longer a reliable source of cheap bricks for impoverished moms like myself. I felt like the poster mom of the Bricks for the Poor campaign...seriously! Then I went through a phase of trying to buy used sets...most resembled garbage. Dumped that strategy! Please keep posting as we want to see how you answer the question of what to build with all those Friends's sets.
  6. Wow! This design looks superb! And the part that you have brick built is also first class! Congratulations! It seems that tugs are so necessary but mostly ignored in the model ship world. Happy building with the rest of the model. Sorry that Sint Nick did not drop the remaining million or so bricks needed down your chimney on Dec fifth was it? Looking forward to your next set of photos!
  7. Score to The Hunt by Nikolaj Egelund. Short and completely instrumental. Rob Simonsen's score to the Spectacular Now ends with three great vocal tracks: Phosphorescent's Song for Zola Ariel Pink-Dam-Funk's Baby and Kurt Vile's Walkin' on a Pretty Day. Enjoy!
  8. I agree! It is great to see another Architecture set, and yes, just about everyone who visits Rome seems to spend some time at Trevi. Rome is so full of architectural gems that it is fitting to include a set from there.
  9. Oky, Terrified, eh? Calm down now...have a cuppa tea and a couple of biscuits. Terrifying is a child killed by a drunken hit and run driver, or 100,000 civilians gassed or gunned down in Syria or starving to death while walking to refugee camps too far away. I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, but it does not sound terrifying. You will survive this.
  10. I second what Lasse said above. The island, beach and water look so inviting, and that ship is scary as hell! Would hate to be snorkeling around that quaint island in the middle of nowhere, and pop my head up to see that galley at twelve o'clock!
  11. Cool flags on top and use of blue cheese for diamond at middle. Very neat design! Are the cannons loaded?
  12. Herky, Thanks for the info. I have never been to a LEGO store opening, but had heard of this as a giveaway. Generally it seems that they give a three pack of minifigs for openings these days, and those don't seem very impressive. It would still be a great idea if they would sell these premium sets after a period of time so that the resale market prices don't climb so high. About the only sets I think that TLG should severely limit distribution of are those designed specifically for and given away during each insider tour because those people pay so much for that experience. Otherwise it makes more sense to offer the other promotional sets widely at reasonable prices maybe a year after their release. The LEGO store set above is the only set I have purchased that was given away at one or more points in time. I, too, have noticed how fast 21021 prices are rising and am glad that I did not wait any longer to buy mine at $140. including shipping from Hong Kong. If MBS had not been so impressive in real life, I would not have made the purchase. But it is unlike any building I have ever seen anywhere, and in most of my travels I have studied and visited interesting looking buildings. I was a huge fan of FLW by age ten when I spent a night in one of his last homes, which happened to be owned by friends in Amarillo, TX. Architecture is a fascinating hobby and a major reason to travel the world. It is fantastic that LEGO supports this theme with such fine sets.
  13. LH, I'll try this again as it disappeared the first time. I love this set each time I see it built on the shelf in our LEGO room. Too bad they used a black box similar to Architecture sets and that they severely limited distribution. LEGO annual employee gifts should be offered to the the public a year later, so that we collectors don't have to pay outrageous prices for tiny sets like this and the LEGO duck 2011, I think. I love the box designs and outstanding books inside each Architectural set due to a lifelong interest in architecture and twenty years as a professor. It is fun learning the history of a set you are constructing. Barnes & Noble is smart to place the Architecture sets in the adult section of many of their stores. This theme appears to attract many folks who do not buy other LEGO themes …and of course many AFOLs.
  14. Patiently went through every Duplo mini fig listed on BL to find special ones that need to join our family. It was fun, but took hours. Also had to identify many of the Dupes in my collection by the sets they appear in so it is clear which ones are needed to fill the holes. Most of the listed ones are used if more than five years old, so it is a big gamble that they will be chewed on, faded, rubbed off, …. But I have had few problems with this on BL where sellers tend to describe the condition of each used figure in detail if there is a problem. My tastes are quite specific with a preference for pastel colors and all skin colors except yellow, which they don't seem to use for Dupe faces. And I tend to avoid police, firemen, medical, pirate, castle, zoos, circuses and other non-plain city figures because I don't want to think about crimes, gas line explosion fires, serious illness, looting, shipwrecks, the Crusades, animals in cages, badly broken necks and other heavy duty topics. Dupes are an escape for me….if I want to hear the bad news, I go to the gym and use a machine in front of CNN. After about 30 seconds, I've had enough of all the bad things happening in the world. It is wonderful that there are so few Duplo collectors competing for the same little people! Shhhh!
  15. Herky, Sounds like a great idea! I don't think Sagrada will ever be completely finished, but a decent facade and some small side walls would be enough for a small set. Does look like a new topic and maybe time for a wanted list for voting. Moderator help? Thanks!
  16. dodo, Sagrada?!!!! Put me down for ten please. One of the most outstanding buildings in the world for sure! Enough curves to give a LEGO designer a heart attack!
  17. WOW! I bet there is a huge waiting list of folks who would like to live in this apartment! When you need more bricks, you just pick them up downstairs. Maybe they could add a dumb waiter to deliver the bricks upstairs upon demand! Your LEGO store is so well thought out….makes me want to go buy more bricks! It is all integrated so well with the classic facade. Everything is up to your normal incredibly high standards as usual. Way to go, Woman!
  18. Working on the ground floor of the Robbie House. May take a few months with all of the 1 by 1 pieces, but that is okay because I like the color scheme and it should be a beautiful build even though the base is unstable (most of FLW buildings had major structural problems, so that is not news) and the tile came with a lot of marks on it. I am a huge fan of FLW and 1 by 1 tiles, so this should be the right set for me. Next comes Sydney Opera House….oooh la la!
  19. Thanks for posting the reply. Maybe there really is no clear reason or we will never know if there is one for making so few copies. How about we just let this &(:/;)$&@)(:/;)/@$/ question go to bed for a long sleep? Mine finally arrived from Hong Kong, and it is an impressive small build that took more brain cells than I had available at the time. After at least a dozen building mistakes and pulling as many parts out of my own stock, it looked pretty darn good to me and the family. Phew! I had serious doubts while building it and definitely erred thinking I could finish it in an hour.
  20. A fantastic build! A great idea to sell the original and build a modded MOC based on it. Trying to figure out what to do with my mostly built CC and GG among other mods, and have already modded parts of them. And I still have an extra of each in the box awaiting a plan. Did not get a Market Street when they came out…thought is was not attractive enough. So maybe I should trade for one of those….hummmm. Got me thinking now! Congrats on your fine build!
  21. Rooftop barbeque/bar area looks great! Do they need some shade from the hot sun blasting down on you often? Your pool deck looks most inviting!!!
  22. Wow! Count me in as a non-watcher. The first episode made me sick to my stomach. But many friends swear by it. They must have much stronger stomachs! You have my support!!!
  23. You have made enormous progress in such a short period of time that it is amazing! From unfinished room to this in less than a year is a miracle. Way to go!
  24. WOW! This is a real treat! The colors are positively overwhelming! Perfect for the mid-winter blahs! Thanks so much for sharing this as we are still waiting for the penguins but have the cuckoo and juice bar sets!!!
  25. Wow! Another wonderful review of new Friends' polybags...thanks! These sets are so much fun because you can combine them into much larger builds and have an entire cottage or backyard of cute and playful animals. Or whatever else you want. It is nice to have a set that many young ones can afford to buy with their own savings. And without the bows on their heads, these animals take your heart away. Cheers!
