  1. Aargh! Guess I better start rowing our rowboat NOW as them airplane tickets ain't getting no cheaper any time soon...could someone please make the Atlantic about 2 miles wide? (That is how far I can row.) Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream...or is it?
  2. Wow! Nice design and the minifigs at the end are outstanding! Looks like a fun place to take in the salty air!
  3. Vee, I don't think anyone was offended by your last post. We all like to dream! Again it is good that none of us run TLG even though we do have some valid comments they should be listening to and studying. Guess I will have to start using smileys! !
  4. Freddy, great comments! Vee, this forum is a place where we express our personal preferences. All of us prefer different LEGO, so it is normal that folks ask for what they want to be sold. And most of us have zero expectations as to seeing our LEGO wishes come true, but dreaming is fun anyway. Your are absolutely correct in that many of our wishes are exactly what TLG should NOT do! Sometimes our posts are interpreted differently from what we mean to say, and this is normal because posting online lacks the visible cues that speaking to a person facing you provides. And cultural and language differences make it harder to express what we are saying and have it understood. So I try to imagine how others might view a post before I hit the send button, but will never be able to completely understand how their minds work. It seems to help if we develop thicker skins and realize that 99 per cent of the posts are most likely not meant to be upsetting, and then try to figure out what is really being said. Most of my friends and my spouse are from other countries and I taught intl business for twenty years, so it is natural for me to filter most of what I say before opening my mouth or posting. But I still screw up things often enough to recognize that this will always be an area of heavy land mines and unforeseen explosions around every corner! I agree with most of your posts and am glad you are active in the forum. Sorry for so many words...
  5. As to what is available in the US only, it seems that Architecture Studio and the Master Builder Academy sets are the main ones due to the English only books. Not sure how much of the Architecture line is sold where, but our TRU does not seem to stock it now. The LEGO Stores should have the best selection, but there are some items that tend to appear more often in TRU...Duplo buckets are one example. If you order from Lego.com in the US, your foreign credit card could allow for shipping only to your billing address. And you may not receive the shipment before you leave the hotel. So it is best to pick up the sets at stores rather than ordering them. It might be worth looking at BL and paying an EB friend in NYC to order what you want from BL a month before you go so that the deliveries occur within your time frame. But do check excess bag fees home because at 100 to 300usd per bag now, buying something large or heavy abroad may not make sense unless you can't find it at home. Good luck and please post your buying report here so we can see how it turns out for you.
  6. Sounds great! My wish list: Could we order shirts in a dark color instead of pastels or white? Please order lots of larger sizes like XL, XXLs and whatever in US sizes so that they use skinny Italian cuts instead. (Has anyone noticed how most AFOL's have spread with age? Sitting on our butts playing with our toys all day does not make for athletic figures for sure!)
  7. The main changes I would push through at TLG would be: -making figs in many different skin colors and more females than males for the next 50 years, -offering more sets based on cultures and places not covered in Western Civ classes, -bringing back Duplo playhouses in all the pastel colors (not just pink) so everyone would feel comfortable playing with them, and -providing at least a dozen non-clothing items that are specific to each LL Park in the stores at each Park. (I just returned from LL Florida and saw zero items that said LL FL except for clothing. That is horrible IMHO. Where are the mugs, keychains, magnets, etc. that say Legoland Florida on them?)
  8. Errrrrrr....The basic rules of kindergarten apply: no biting, spitting, hitting, throwing sand in someones face, stealing toys, or calling anyone a bad name. And you are in luck as the more humane EU disciplinary policies apply: time out (on a little chair in the corner) instead of spanking /beating with a BIG wooden paddle for infractions. You should be okay.
  9. Thanks! That is good news to hear!
  10. Actually I like the design. Micro scale is seriously cute. Will be interesting to see if there is an expert edition later on. The good news is that this one should be a lot easier to BL and build than Marina Bay Sands. (Unless the Easter Bunny drops a large egg filled with cash in my basket, this baby will have to wait because I spontaneously invested in my first Architecture Studio that suddenly appeared out of nowhere in our LEGO store this week. )
  11. Motion seconded! Two months til kick off. Still waiting for Santa to arrive on his sleigh with some plane tickets...but the odds are getting slimmer each day. Thanks guys for all the behind the scenes work!
  12. So I am looking for the details of the closure...time closed to the reopening time and for the hotel, too, so that folks hoping to visit this weekend can plan something else. This is not a political forum, so if a discussion gets too political, the mods will remove it. I hope to visit in May, and am keen to see Miniland. Does anyone know if the Park suffered from recent floods to the west of London? And does anyone know if all parts of the Park are open these days? (In Florida, much of the Park is under renovation, so beware if you are thinking about taking toddlers soon for a visit. The Duplo part is closed.) Thanks!
  13. I just noticed (on brickset) that the Park will be closed for a few days due to protests threats due to a function that was to be held this Sunday at the Park. Does anyone have details that can tell us what has happened?
  14. They received several copies of AS in TLS in Raleigh this week with a limit of one per person. Was told it is sold only in the US because the book is only in English. They also told me that it was supposed to come back as a regular item possibly slightly revised as version two. Still at the orig price of $150.
  15. Wow! Saw your build in the Raleigh store display case today, and it looks even more impressive in reality! So many bricks and such a well thought out design. Congratulations on a real work of art! (Please give the family some praise, too!)
  16. KC, You will survive! (Glad you don't live in some unnamed states currently at war. Now that is a major bummer!) (The movie is worth waiting for, but if you are desperate, you can always ask your Chinese friends for a preview. ) Cheers!
  17. Bfenz, You can do this without trading Dfenz at EB 2014! Just take a photo for the rest of us, OK? Frost, Me thinks they are expecting some nifty polybags, so get with it. How can they not have any polybags in Billund? Hummmm!
  18. Front, Watch out! You may have just offered your partner, your house, your car and your firstborn to someone for a Mr. Gold. Is he really worth that much? You might want to edit that last post!
  19. Wow! Incredible! All the angled pieces leave me cross eyed! Fantastic landscaping, too. It is dizzying to look at the photos that blow up small sections because there are just so many bricks. Congratulations!
  20. Wow! Way to go! Brilliant details all over...can't wait to see it in the store! Looks like a wonderful family project for all if our snow days.
  21. If you walk the toy aisles at Walmart, they are full of cheap looking plastic junk for the most part. The LEGO section is very small. The other toys mostly look like cheap junk, which us quite popular in the USA , and much of this junk is made by Mattel. It is scary how much shelf space they control. At the higher end of the decent toy market, Mattel owns the American Girl Doll sold only through its stores and online. AGD has lost much if its appeal since Mattel acquired it moving the focus from learning American history through the story of each doll to the overcommercialization of a toy. Now it seems like a regular high end toy company with little focus on the educational aspect and the sole emphasis on paying an enormous amount for your doll to lead "the good life as defined by Mattel." I am not a fan of Mattel and will not be buying their products for my grandchildren if I can avoid it. Wooden toys and LEGO will be at the top of my list.
  22. Micro BURP def. Maybe that is what happens when you have less than three dollars to spend at Taco Bell...for a meal of two taco frescas and a free senior drink. ( A great way to save money for more bricks! )
  23. So what time is tea in your teahouse? We are ready to go anytime it looks so inviting!
  24. Fantastic design! The under structure and water are perfect, and the sun looks like it is hanging low in the sky without any support. Very cool buildings in background. The double sofa is right on...way to go!
  25. This car and driver look like they belong in Pecos, Texas where cowboy booted/hatted oilmen were not ashamed to drive their wives' pink Caddy convertibles during my childhood. My best friend's grandfather drove one, and we little kids would slide back and forth on the white leather back seat when "B" turned corners fast. Lucky to survive those rides as "B" was rarely sober, and many drives were to the liquor store for more juice. This was before US cars had seat belts. One other drawback was that the sun is fierce in the West Texas desert, and sunburn was a real problem if we were going more than ten miles. Nice model built and LDD versions!
