Helicopters are very technical and difficult machines. I was wondering, why not use wings to generate the lift that you need. I was thinking of this airplane: Maybe not that many engines, but if the wings are of good shape they will generate the needed lift... I'm sure someone can calculate the weight/wingspan formula.

42006 b model
captainmib replied to DarkShadow73's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
At least TLG surprised us all with that attachment on the back, since that wasn't visible in any picture at all... The model seems less boring now or makes more sense. -
This years crane is designed with a very different scale and idea in mind, and building it in a scale like this would make it incredibly expensive. (like, two times a 8110 unimog; around € 300??) It's a great MOC nevertheless, but these kind of topics sound like - "TLG should have made 9394 jet plane as large as Grohl's SAAB JA-37 Viggen".

Thirdwigg's MOCs

Great build and nice implementations of the functions! Awesome! Edit: By the way, i really like that joystick design. After taking a good look at the video i can see you managed to keep it simple but have all the functions. Clever idea -
Why are people immediately disappointed by seeing crappy pics, missing a lot of information and judging a set on first the glimp. To me, both 42008 and 42009 look really cool. 42008 with green color: we are asking for different colors all the time. So, we have a white race car, and now a green service truck. Fantastic! The truck itself looks really like service trucks we have driving around in the Netherlands, capable of towing city buses and entire truck-combinations. (but they are yellow here) 42009: i think this crane will explain itself once there are more clear pictures. This will be a good replacement for 8421, if you are new on the theme... Can someone please explain to me why using this or that part, instead of part C, is a disappointment?

Jeroen: You mentioned in the article the flightcontrols and how they work, but where is the actual control of it? Did you managed to put it inside the cockpit or is it somewhere in the back of the plane? This build inspires me a lot to go along with my own. Struggling and starting over at the moment. There are not enough cool technic planes

If this only was the original 9398 i would have bought it. Looks really awesome. Something you would drive through your livingroom sanddunes...

If you make a digital one, where every day a thumbnail leads to a bigger picture, with a subassembly of a larger model, that would be awesome to follow and build. I think it's a great idea. (and you have the option to create some bigger models) Maybe it could be a C-model from a certain set, or a smaller vehicle or something. Why would it not be attractive to AFOL's? The idea of building something everyday, to assemble it on the last and see what you get gives a nice building experience...

I think you will like the new tires of 42007 - They will look perfect on this motorcycle. Btw, it looks good! Where are those bike builders come from all of a sudden?

This is a tough question, because there are a lot of (personal) factors in the equation. I agree with blackbird that nostalgia is one of the bigger factors. Having only a few studded sets from the 90's and a few studless sets from 2010-2012, i'm amazed by the progression. Getting back into Technic lego has been fantastic. I have no aversion to studs, but with the studless parts there are so many combinations and techniques possible that it has opened a whole lot of great ways to design a model. Maybe Lego should not forget where their (technic) product has started, and implement some more studded into the models. If they would design a set like the 8485 Control Center II again, mix in both studded and studless, that would be a fantastic nostalgia trip. Maybe that would be the direction i would like to see. Golden age? Yes, why not. Every new wave of sets can be a golden age. As long as you enjoy building Technic Lego, build MOC's and learn - why not!

Good looking pick-up! How did you managed to fit the steering under the v8? I had some trouble with space when i was building a 4x4. Mostly because of the movement of the front axle.

Sheepo, stop. Your MOC's are beyond what us mortals can understand. That's just insane what you have build. Fantastic job! 1) How do you manage the friction in the gearbox? I know that with the vampire GT it already has a lot of friction, and yours has 3 times the gears... 2) I still dont understand how that gearbox works, would you mind explaining? -
Oh, nice. I like that window-shaping and the engine-compartment. This goes along well with sheepo's mini. It proves that Technic cars don't necessarily have to be super-cars!

Snake looks really good, especially from the top! -
Congratulations Grohl! I hope you will be able to put your specialism into practice by giving new lego sets C and D models! Btw Dluders, next time give a bit more background info in your start post. I seriously didn't understand what you were talking about... Edit: Woopsie, and by Dluders i mean Zblj (so used to topics started by D...)
