Big Mobile Crane mark II
captainmib replied to piotrek839's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Awesome crane! I like the supporting springs to lift the boom section. Nice find. And it seems you have at least enough unimog wheels... -
No, no. A contest is not a contest if it doesn't push your limits. It's just that i'm not that experienced in building medium scale and need to learn. Already have inspiration..

Jim, this contest is way harder than i thought. I'm thinking way to big. Anyone got tips to get this thing going? I already have an idea, but creating 500 parts models isn't easy. And you need 3 of 'em...

Help with your MOC
captainmib replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No, this is a very good topic, I always feel this section of the forum drowns in simple questions in seperate topics. The thing is, if we update the first post with the questions asked, add a link to the question, make a nice table of contents, we will have a nice overview. People are able to see if their question is asked before and if yes, have an answer without posting a new topic. I like it. Maybe we need a format for questions aswell... Edit: oh, i forget to add: rename the topic to "Simple questions, Simple answers" - and pin? just my $0.02 -

Sariel did a video review, not only a timelapse of the build, but also the functions... -
This is great Paul! I like the looks. The build looks solid and open. The top is nicely shaped. Can we expect building instructions? Maybe i can build this with unimog wheels... (oh man, the to-build-list is growing again...)

This set contains so many parts (and lots of them black/grey) that it's hard to just buy some sets. 8110 will get you wheels and grey panels, beams, gears and one m-motor and lots of other usefull stuff. 8258 will get you more gears, and a xl motor, but is hard to get. bricklink is probably a better option, but all in all it's expensive. or, if color is not a problem, you can use parts you get within those sets, and use what you already have.

Well, maybe you can start something here. With a pinned topic, and start a wiki? -
9396 C-model
captainmib replied to captainmib's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
So, the LXF is here! I have done some adjustments. The tail is changed a bit, so that is has now a bit stronger connection, and no longer a forbidden angle. Done some visual work as well, but it still isn't mothers prettiest. There are some parts left over, so use your own creativity to use them. All in all i'm happy with the result, and consider this project done! Happy building!- 7 replies

Avengers Helicarrier
captainmib replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sariel, you produce amazing models at a fast pace. I don't know how you do that, but I like almost everything you build. And btw, good shopping on the pics. I think i'm a bit jealous. You do the work i would love to do, and have the same hobby, but at a much higher level. Keep 'em coming! -
9396 C-model
captainmib replied to captainmib's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I know it's not the prettiest. There are some parts left, mostly beams. Got any suggestions? I'm currently working on the Lxf, should be done this week.- 7 replies

I had two weeks of holiday and took set 9396 with me to have some relaxing lego building. I wanted to build a C-model for 9396 and I think it worked out quite nice for the idea that I had. It features: - Cyclic control with one direction for each joystick and seat. These pilots need to cooperate! Frontseat controls forward/backward movement. Backseat controls left/right movement - Working landing gear, controlled by the black 20 tooth gear and one sLA. - Fuel probe in front for aerial refueling - One part that isn't actually from set 9396. I think it's a pitty this set doesn't come with one or two universal joints. Pictures: Building a C-model is interesting and difficult at the same time. As you can see I tried to use some parts in different ways than on the A and B models. The main rotor is quite a heavy part, and the control needed to be sturdy, so that it wouldn't fall over or something. For this I used as much blue friction pins, and an extra link as support. To stop it's movement and hitting the helicopter I used some towballs with pin. (see picture below) Attaching the front wheel was a puzzle as well, there wasnt much room with the link to the front joystick. With all the moving beams underneath it is quite packed, but movement is smooth. Thanks for reading, comments are welcome. All pictures on my brickshelf. (once moderated)
