Captain's Hangar
captainmib replied to captainmib's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The 9394 is a very nice set. The A-model is well constructed, and Grohl made a nice helicopter alternative. So, you can build some models from it once you get it- 20 replies

Nice plane! I think stretching it a bit, and making the tailsection less wide would do the job. -

I've build a JFAIR model too, you can see it here. Nice models and ideas so far. I like the 42025 in black, just needs 4 props!

So, to start filling my hangar, I present you my JFAIR build: A 9394 C-model: The X29 It has working landing gear, and the joystick controls both the front canard wings and the afterburner. This was a fun build, but actually not intended to just be a C-model. I started building a X-29 about a year ago, but I just couldn't work it out. Although i had some nice parts worked out, like the landing gear, the build was to complex for me. So, this is a more simplified model, and i'm happy with the result. 9394 has a very limited part range, so you just have to re-use some of the techniques from the A-model. Like you can see at the above bottom-shot. I wanted the front wheel below the cockpit, so getting in the landing gear and the joystick was a little tricky. Hope you like it. Edit: changed the set number, since it was obviously the wrong one, and I had a brainfart when putting this together...

Technic General Discussion
captainmib replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
And how does the cam reset so yo can push or pull it again? I'm not sure if I understand what you are saying. The gearbox i'd like to use i this one: And I want to switch the m-motor for a lever, so that you can shift manually. The knob-wheel is turning 45 90 degrees. (i'm a pancake, it needs to rotate 90 degrees, not 45) Edit: I think a found a solution, will try this setup: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/239686 -
Technic General Discussion
captainmib replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here is a question for you that i really want to solve. I am building a sequential gearbox and want to do manual gearshifting with a stick that returns to centre by elastic band. The thing is, i want to build a single mechanism that can shift forward and back by turning a knobwheel 45 degrees. So, pushing the selector forward will 'grab' the knobwheel, turn it 45 degrees, releases the knobwheel (so it stays in that position) and returns to centre. It has to be able to shift forward and back, so turning the knobwheel 45 degrees in both directions. I hope you guys understand what i'm saying. I could not find a real life mechanism so far, so if you can find an example and show it to me, thats ok aswell. If i need to explain more, please ask. -
At least for me this set sounds far more interesting than 9398. That was just a 4x4, remote controlled. No functions. (no steering, no engine) This one will have the same amount of PF and RC, but also some nice functions to play with. And I hope there will be more, like a fake engine and something unexpected. That it will be a license hopefully doesn't mean we have to pay for it aswell...

Nico71's Creations

What an awesome deux chevaux! Really good job on the outside and the inside. Love the suspension and the way you fitted the engine, gearbox and steering in the front. -
[REVIEW] 42024 - Container Truck
captainmib replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Fantastic review jed/tim! I like the wheels very much, since i don't own any of the ones in 8109 scale. Still, the new parts in the construction crew are lots better. To bad this set doesnt even have the new pin+axle connector.A very usefull part for building in small scale. One you miss if you build in 5 wide. Will wait for a plane review to see what it has to offer... -
Motorised Astromechs

Awesome creation! Would you please update the lxf file? Or better, make (pdf) instructions? -
Do we need to attach a piece so it can hang on the tree? (or string, rope etc)

Variable Pitch Propeller
captainmib replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Didn't think of the airflow pushing down to the scale. I know of the discussion, but your test just refreshed the idea of flying in combination with lego ;-) -
Variable Pitch Propeller
captainmib replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice creation. Maybe we can use it in the upcoming cargo-plane. So the conclusion is that lego is never gonna fly? Increasing the pitch didnt help at all, since the goal is to make the weight-counter lower... -
Love the airplane aswell. I really like planes and helicopters, 9396 was a nice set, and to me it seems 42025 has more functionality. Would like it to come without PF, since i already own a lot of m-motors and batteryboxes. (but it probably won't) If you combine 42025 and 42020 you can make a nice 4 prop plane. Maybe a nice project when i own one.
