Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I hope you use more color than Brick City Depot. Theirs looks really drab. I do like the front stairs though. And I like how you are orienting everything. It will be neat to see the final product. I am currently working on an inverted corner Cafe Corner and then I'm torn between a modified Market Street or just a townhouse, but in dark green. -
Thanks for doing another raffle. I hope I can get lucky this time. I didn't have a ton of time to put this together. But I had fun putting it together, and that is what counts. Here it is hanging on our tree that we just put up.

Those figures look great. I will easily plan on picking all of these up. I originally want impressed with that Batman, but now that suit looks awesome. But I also happen to like the second face on man-bat. I'm not loving the new riddler though.

If they would release the sets that people want vs what they'think' will sell, it would be a completely different ballgame. Sure, kids are the market, but I think that is only true for LEGO as a whole. Certain themes have to have more kids buying it vs adults buying it. As in I think this theme is going to be directed at kids but will mainly have adults buying it. Therefore, everything should be pointing towards another wave for us, but I doubt it. They could do one small wave as a final send out and with the right figures, they will get great sales numbers. Harry Potter had 3 semi small sets as their final wave which did come out after Diagon Alley, so it could happen after Orthanc. All they really need are the right sets and people won't think they were short changed.

I ordered the arts when they had their sale, so I'm sure they will shoot the price up once they are officially released. If love to get an extra guard, but not at that price. I'll try my luck in stores. Granted I never make it to my tru since it is on the other side of town that I never get to.

Instead of asking what I want, I get told a dollar amount and then I buy up to that point. Same idea of finding better sales than other people since they aren't keeping an eye on things. With that said, I ordered my Christmas presents in October with double points. I got: Town Hall, Winter Village Market, BTTF Delorean, VW Camper Van, and Thanksgiving feast polybag, the four Hobbit sets, Jabba's Sail Barge, Sopwith Camel and some pick a brick. I try to take a picture of all of them and post it in my Flickr in my signature. The last two year's pictures are in there too.

That looks amazing. I love the snow scape. This is inspiring. I may copy some of this for a hogsmeade MOC sometime. Keep up the great work. Any tips on good snow landscapes?

^It probably depends on what type of computer you are accessing it from. I am on my kindle, so I can't see anything. It says this plug in is not accepted. So I'll look the next time I'm on a computer.

It seemed to be hit and miss from what I've read. I just ordered mine from tru because of the sale they had and picked them up in store.

I've received scratched figures before and the roller skates wouldn't fit in the most recent waitress. They would just fall out immediately. I emailed customer service and they told me the same thing, "there is nothing we can do." They didn't offer any replacement packs either to make up for it. I assumed they would have just to add a positive spin to it all, but they basically said, nothing we can do except for allow you to buy more from us because we want all of your money... That was the impression I got anyway. So I quit buying multiples because they have enough of my money.

Neat ideas. I like that coffee shop, mostly because of the outdoor seating not taking away from the sidewalk. It makes the building smaller, but the facade still works well. Second favorite is the hardware store, but that is mostly for the truck. I love the coloring and design there.

I just ordered the sets last night on the TRU sale for my birthday. I will need to go pick them up soon. Odd that they didn't have one of the sets available at the store (the smallest one), so I had to have some ship for free instead. I can't wait to pull out the figures. I doubt I will build any of the sets though, I rarely do with licensed themes. But those figures look great.

Very creative techniques here. I didn't love the first Hobbit movie, but I love the idea of Middle Earth and this is very fitting. You captured the house well from the movie. I really like that birdhouse out front. Keep up the great work!

Well, I still like the sets so I will get all four, but I may wait for a sale or a really good promo from Shop@Home. Batgirl is awesome and I'll have to get 2 (one for me, one for the daughter), so it won't matter about bricklink prices, I'll be paying out the nose anyway. I like getting variations of other figures, but I really only want a Burt Ward Robin, which I can tinker with in the Juniors set. Just make a few changes and it should work. I actually like the Batplane, although I would probably MOD it some to make it into a boat that can fly instead of a wheeled vehicle that can fly. Yes, I realize the mechanics wouldn't be realistic, but it's LEGO...I will probably part out the Steamroller. I love that new fur coat Penguin. I could see myself having extras of that torso for some MOCs. I love torsos that can be in modern settings or 100 years old.

This is brilliant. I don't know a lot about trains, but this definitely captured the title runaway train. I love the rockwork/snow and I will look at it for inspiration for my Castle MOCs. I did a draft last night and completely spaced on picking up those white pieces for snow until almost all were gone.

Very odd. I've never had that happen to me. I Just get broken pieces in my boxes... But still neat.

My daughter has her own collection plus she grabs certain pieces of mine for her collection. She unsorts everything to do she can build random scenes and buildings. Plus she likes to play with the haunted house and modular buildings. The only thing I keep separate from her are certain minifigures or MOCs I don't want destroyed right away. Otherwise everything is free game. She loves the rancor figure and the cave troll. They seem to hang out just fine with the friends and cmfs.

That could be a good idea. Dark blue and a lighter skin tone didn't work too well. And most people's chests have darker skin showing than their face. Too bad there wasn't a way to make the front of the torso a lighter color and then you'd have to "print" the darker color everywhere else. It would get crazy expensive, but don't we deserve it? I will more than likely get that new Cap, even though I have the other one. I tend to buy all of the minifigures of the Super Hero line-up and almost all of the sets.

LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series Poll
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I voted for Lincoln. They did a great job with him. It helps that I live in Lincoln too. I just wish his hat was separate from his beard only so I could use the hat elsewhere. Otherwise a great figure. A close second was Shakespeare. He was well done also, but I mostly just like the torso print. Yes it is seemingly identical to the Actor, but I like the color change and I could use a lot of those torsos for my middle ages builds, if I ever get around to them. I have a small army of the Actor and I will accumulate a small army of Shakespeares. Basically the only army builder for me here.- 22 replies

I haven't seen that movie. So I don't know what the ship looks like, but I love the cockpit design. I may have to borrow that idea sometime if I ever build something space related, which I've given some thought to.

I always love your builds and this does not disappoint. The heraldry is quite impressive and I love the color scheme. I'd also like to know how you did it and how did you apply it to the shields/cloth, etc. I have no idea on how to make custom anything, but it'd be neat to create some shields or flags for a faction of my own sometime. The name is superb and I like the backstory. I'd like to read more, in fact. The snow effect is awesome. It looks very organic with the stonework too. I signed up for Avolonia when GoH started, but the more I see Mitgardian builds I like the idea of snow building. Good luck in the contest. You would be a force to be reckoned with in MB.

Horror Stories - Lego you bought off flea-bay and BL
TheLegoDr replied to DrJB's topic in General LEGO Discussion
^Well good for you for trying. I don't think I could bring myself to spend that much on pieces in general, let alone pieces that I may not want a good portion of. I have the chance to do LUGbulk soon and that will be a lot more than I've ever spent on pieces before, so I'm torn there. I think the most I've ever spent on pieces was about $20-30 -
There had been a lot of talk about him regarding the movie. They have shown 13 of 17 rumored sets, so it is possible it will be a summer release. I can't see why they wouldn't release something involving classic space since they hit every other lego theme.

Advice on Fake Comic Con Figures
TheLegoDr replied to shinobisgreenshinpads's topic in LEGO Licensed
^ good point. I think the main problem is resale value. If you believe you own an authentic figure and try to resell it later, but it is actually a fake and someone figures it out (but you didn't) then that may cause some problems. But if you are just a collector and like looking at them, then it might not be a big deal. I have seen some of those custom lots of 10-15 super heroes and have considered it, but at the same time I can't bring myself to spend money on non lego since that money can go to actual lego. -
kevkipo - I don't think I've ever seen some of these polybags in LEGO brand stores, only other retailers. Just keep that in mind.
