Theater: Frozen. It was okay. The redeeming part was the snowman. Plus I love castle related stuff, so was trying to get some good MOC ideas. I think my daughter liked it okay though. DVD: Man of Steel. I finally watched this. I actually really liked it. Much better than the previous reboot. I liked Faora . Way more of a bad megablocks than Zod. So naturally I had to buy all of the figures. I was surprised at the inclusion of Tor-An as a minifigure since I don't even remember him in the movie.

I am surprised they wouldn't do a new joker here too to go with the theme, but if you think about it, all of the pieces are printed (which is unusual) and robin got a new head and Batman is in a lighter color, so they didn't really change the figures too much. I wish he would have a longer yellow cape. If you actually look at the Burt Ward Robin, he has a black mask and green sleeves, so this new robin looks nothing like the 60s version everyone claims him to be. Basically the addition of a yellow cape is the only close thing to it.

Collectible Minifigures Series "14" - First image?
TheLegoDr replied to jamesster's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Interesting to see a POTC torso for a non licensed figure.. -
Maybe Batman has spares in his batcave. If one breaks down or blows up, he probably has an extra one. Can't be too prepared for a billionaire. I don't mind getting another batmobile. I'm not huge on the orange (supposed to represent gold?) windscreen on the new one, but I don't mind the design of the vehicle itself. I wonder if other color windscreens are available that would fit in that same shape?

What themes do LEGO "Old Timers" Collect?
TheLegoDr replied to Legogal's topic in General LEGO Discussion
^That almost makes me wish I was an old timer... But this thread is entertaining to read. -
I haven't seen the movie, but looking at that courtyard with Gandalf, I can easily see the DGB set in that scope. It has the stairs at weird angles, the dark bley wall, and some plant life. I'm not understanding the hate I guess. I always want something bigger of course, but from what I can tell, they hit it on the head.

REFERENCE Dusting Lego displays and layouts
TheLegoDr replied to SirNadroj's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've tried compressed air and it didn't work for my very well. This was on a set that had only been on display for about a month, so it wasn't thick old dust. I was surprised it didn't come off as well. I'd think it would be wise to disassemble it before using soap/water. Although, maybe a soft terry cloth or microfiber cleaning cloth would work well without scratching the bricks? I'm just thinking relation to eyeglass cleaning, we always recommend spraying first then using the microfiber cloth to prevent scratches. I'm sure plastic lenses vs plastic bricks could be similar. -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I still mainly want the figures instead of the actual sets, but I am loving that Creative Ambush gentleman and lady. The bowler in brown is very welcoming and a new dress print for the female is much needed. Bob's Kabobs is a neat figure too. The sets will be a big hit with the kids I'd imagine. Some of the pieces will definitely come in handy, but sets I'm still not sure on.- 2,626 replies

I love the second shot figure placement. It looks perfect. I really need to get some time to build. I'd love to be able to have these large dioramas together for some quick story telling. Keep up the great work.

Good progress so far. I will keep my eye on here. I've been considering building my own castle too. I have a gatehouse started, and I want to elaborate on it, but I need pieces and I need to decide what I want to put in there. Do I want to enclose everything or leave it open backed...decisions, decisions. But I will look upon yours for inspiration. Keep it up!

I like the rockwork on the wall. Very nice. I actually really like the fence too! It looks great with the plants around it. Keep up the good work!

The head is from Davy Jones. I like that figure a lot. I'm using that head for a custom bad guy for my GoH story..if I ever get around to finishing the story/MOCs. Interesting concept. I haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't elaborate on how accurate it is, but a neat idea nonetheless. I'm sure they will come out with an official version next year.

[ MOC ] General Zod's Attack Ship, from Man of Steel
TheLegoDr replied to niteangel's topic in LEGO Licensed
I just watched this movie Saturday night for the first time and I would say this is very lifelike to the source material. Very well done. I'd almost want to build one of these for myself. I'm trying to think on how to build the creature Jor-El rides early on. Keep up the great work!- 15 replies

I could say you guys are lucky to have so many in a somewhat close proximity. My closest store is about 3 hours away, and the next closest from there is another 7 hours or so...no PAB crawls for me...

I like it. The water effect works really well here using those 1x2 bricks on their side. I like the organic feel of it all. The hill on the left works really well even though you'd think it would look like steps being layered like that. Otherwise I'd want to see some more green ground on the right side instead of just dirt, but I like the overall build. Keep up the good work. I really need to get back into GoH!

Wall Street Journal on Lego Holiday Sales
TheLegoDr replied to Off the wall's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is news? I'd assume most toys are in this same boat. I only try to buy at select times in the year, unless a great sales comes along. I typically have all of my lego shopping for by October for double points. I did shop later this year for the second Christmas set, but that was still before Thanksgiving. Edit: it probably helps with tru and target both having bogo 50% off sales recently. The shelves are pretty bare at times. -
[MOC] Puggie, the funniest and most adorable dog on earth!
TheLegoDr replied to marcosbessa's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This is amazing. I really need to practice my snot so I can create stuff like this. It would go great at a show. Kids would eat it up! Did you work on the 2014 creator animals? This is very reminiscent of that. -
^Only Sinner - it is Boromir's shield. Eomer had the rounded shield like Captain America.

I'm just now watching Man of Steel and TLG really got the armor down. I think Faora's hair was pretty spot on for already having that hair piece . I would have loved one of those flying creatures Jor-el rides early on.

Add much done of us fans may or may not like it, lego is going to put figures in that will sell sets. As in, Batman sells. Simple as that. I love Batman, but I don't need multiple of the same outfit, but lego knows oror will need that figure if they didn't buy other sets and/or they know we will end up buying the other sets too to make sure we get what we want. They know what they are doing, whether or not DC has all or some of the say.

So far no issues with my MEA set, but I did have those issues with my Elrond polybag. I'd think it to be odd to receive multiple bad prints while no one else received any yet. It is certainly possible for it to happen, but the odds are astronomical. Do you have other elf hair pieces? I've yet to see a 'perfect' print on any of them, but nothing terrible. Maybe your expectations are too high? This is a new mold, so maybe they haven't perfected the printing process yet. Edit: looking at all of my elf hair pieces, only the yellow hair loss printed appropriately. All of my other darker hair color shows flesh tone on the hair itself. To be honest it never bothered me, so I never gave it much thought. It must just be how the machine prints. It has that little margin of error because all of them are in the same size and area. LEGO might be willing to replace them, but I believe you will get the exact same printing.

Brilliant. I was actually going to do a ring toss game too, but your set up looks good. I really like the kiddie ride out back too. Good luck in the contest.

I must be the only one that likes Thor. The variation is at least didn't than before. I hate having so many multiples of useless figures.

Honestly I haven't seen that set for sale since it came out, at least not around here. I think the Targets must have received a limited supply and once they sold out it was gone for good. It might have come back in stock once, but I just ordered it from LEGO when it first came available so as to not miss it. The tricky thing is, I'd much prefer to wait for sales, but I don't like the risk of missing out on good sets. To be honest, Uruk-Hai army is a better army builder than Orc Forge since you get two Orcs, one Uruk, and Lurtz. Might as well buy the new $20 Hobbit set for 2 orcs right there (different as they are, I know).
