  1. Incredible build! A stunning recreation. I really love the chimney rock-work. Brilliantly done. I may have to borrow that idea, if I ever build anything on my own. The woodwork is very lifelike, as is the ground definition. I will definitely look back for inspiration.
  2. Wonderful recreation. Very interesting use of pieces. I especially love the rockwork. I need to practice my SNOTting so I can do more ground like you. Keep up the great work!
  3. Faefrost - good point. I hadn't thought of it like that. Does anyone know if LEGO does a specific planned number of production runs, no matter what? Taking the Zombies set for example. That was available for about 2 months and then never seen again. But other sets may have multiple production runs. I wonder what factors they consider to determine how many production runs they initially want. I understand you could do one, see how it sells, then plan for another one. But on the reverse, like you said, there are obviously some they didn't plan on having a second production run and they may/may not have made a lot of money by doing it. It seems like people are still clamoring for the Zombies set, but maybe that is partically because it didn't last that long..
  4. ^Well everyone's cones are going to be reading at different wavelengths, so people can view the same color differently. However, LEGO does produce some simlar colors OR they have the same color only made at different times and thus have a terrible consistency. That is pretty common with LEGO. If you actually compare a lot of the same color side by side, you will notice the discrepancies. That doesn't necessarily mean it is incorrect though, unfortunately. With that said, there are some that are really similar and people probably just need better light to distinguish between them. Low light hurts contrast more.
  5. FB was my first Modular a few years ago, so I was safe there. However, that is interesting that retiring soon isn't applied to everything that is indeed retiring soon. What was the point of that feature then I wonder?? I've emailed customer service before regarding expected end of life of certain sets, and they would basically say they can't divulge that information...so I guess I'll just have to risk not getting everything I want.
  6. Those are some great looking DC figures. I will definitely get them all. But naturally they include Batgirl in the most expensive set since I need two of her. But the rest are looking great. And I am actually quite happy with Flash.
  7. Obviously there is a theme here. Own it, be proud, you don't need to justify anything to anyone, etc... I think the main concern for me would be are you spending too much on this hobby? Yes, hobbies cost money. Yes, you are enjoying it with your daughter. But if you have to spend 2 weeks pay on one set, that may remove other important things in your life that are more essential than plastic bricks. I know my wife is understanding and supportive about it, but I know there are other things I can spend my money on/time on. I also have a daughter so some of it does go with her. She likes building together or playing with certain figures. I tend to try to build and not too much play unless she wants to play. I did get back into LEGO after we had our baby, but it wasn't because of her. It was something I did in my own time. It does bring back a good feeling from my childhood to enjoy it again and I'd love to share that with our daughter. I think the end result is, are you making ends meet otherwise, and is anyone feeling left out (significant other??)? You mention they play video games, that is a big time sucker right there. Plus games can be expensive also. It's just priorities and that's not a big deal. But I know when I started dating my now wife, she basically banned video games because they have impacted too many of her previous relationships. I accepted it because I didn't have a lot of time to juggle games, a girlfriend, and grad school. Now I don't miss video games or even notice that I don't play them. I don't have time anyway. Again, priorities.
  8. ^I agree. I've seen them for as low as $20 before, but never below that. Per someone in my LUG, he claims he found Helm's Deep for $25 on clearance...which I've never seen lower than $90... Either way, I have Tower Bridge, UCS B-Wing and then my upcoming Christmas sets. I mainly open a lot for the figures, then I don't build the set for a really long time (if ever). Most of the lack of building is due to no time, but some sets I don't have motivation to build anyway, so they just sit in their box until I decide to part them out into my sorted collection.
  9. Nicely done. I like the idea of all of this fire surrounding one bridge. What head did you use for the Nocty?
  10. So it is a collection of all of the animal polybags? Interesting idea. Makes sense to market them together, especially if someone missed the early series that went out of stock long ago. But still, interesting it is only available in one location.
  11. It creates less hassle for CopMike to ship them out and then everyone trades, instead of trying to trade. I think it was because of the high number of prizes this year. It definitely puts the other years to shame. I'm really glad I entered, but since I liked all of the prize packages, I guess it worked out for me.
  12. Awesome work on the Laketown Guard. He looks really neat. Between Bard or the guard are my two favorites of this theme. Although they did miss the mark with Bard "the no quiver" bowman. That Qui-Gon hair is perfect, but won't accommodate a quiver. They really need to make a new quiver mold that is thinner in the middle section so certain hair peices (*ahem* elf hair *ahem*) and Bard's hair would work with it. Legolas and Bard both NEED quivers, yet neither can have one. Very odd.
  13. Great build! I love the flooring/rug effect. How did you do that one? It is ever so slightly above the ground. Very clever. I love the color scheme used too. Good use of Jester figures and I like the one ring on the batons they are using (I assume it is a baton?) Either way, very good usage. And interesting story. I'll have to look into that sometime. I like seeing a MOC based on a story already in existence. Seeing how someone pictures something is always neat since many people picture things differently.
  14. I'm glad this was bumped because I missed it on here. I must have seen it on another website, maybe brothers brick? Either way, superb job! Very fitting for the source material. I loved this show as a kid. Great job on battle cat too!
  15. Arrow is an okay show, but it is basically a Batman knock off as far add I can tell. With that said I'd love to see an Arrow figure because I have watched that show. As far as the other sets, I wouldn't expect a polybag exclusive of asm2 only because they already have a Spider-Man polybag coming out with that little vehicle.
  16. I would be torn on the matter. I love LOTR and have loved the figures and sets so I'd hate to see them go. However without them I guess I'd save a lot of money to spend elsewhere... In reality I'd hope it lasts longer!
  17. I think it definitely looks out of place compared to the rest. But I do really like the black arches facing the sidewalk on the top floor. I'd suggest less black elsewhere in the build and ssh in another color. I know lack of pieces can be troubling, but sometimes that is the motivation needed to be a better builder. I'd recommend less of the giant Windows on the second floor and use other bricks to break it up a bit. I think too much window space takes away from the build overall. The helipad looks neat, but I like the roof building with the door that comes out to the pad more.
  18. So far I own all of them and love all of them. I'd say the toy shoppe is my favorite because of the balance of everything included. I love the color scheme, the big tree, the carolers, the train toy.. I am one of the few that lies the market, but I chose it as least favorite only because it is a hard sell for me. I don't want to do carnival stuff out in the snow, maybe fall. The carousel is awesome and I love the play feature, but it didn't feel like a $100 set to be either. I don't mind the market stalls, but the pieces might have been better used elsewhere. But I'm thankful for the dark blue arch coming back. The rest looked great together, but I agree the cottage, as great as it looks, is a bit oversized compared to the rest. The bakery is a little lackluster, but it is a good size and I like the outdoor addition. The post office is a really neat building, but stands out due to the lack of snow on the roof. Otherwise it fits in great with the rest at that scale. But the winter village series is one theme I will buy sight unseen every year. Them and the modular series.
  19. ^ exactly! I post when I'm at work with the exception of right now. I don't get online a ton outside of work, but at work when I have free time I can post all I want. I can't exactly build on my free time at work and my free time at home involves my family time, so not a lot of time to do things there.
  20. I wish I could get ahold of that poster. It looked neat. I'll have to look for one in the aftermarket.
  21. A lot of people have commented on the pin piece causing problems with fit and I never noticed an issue with it. Everything clicked just fine on mine and I ordered it mid October, so a little after it went on sale. I can't imagine they fixed the problem that quickly? But maybe they did. I didn't mind the little stands so much, but I agree, I'd take just the carousel part and have it at a lower price to go along with the other sets. Although I don't think it fits in as well in all honesty. I don't picture wanting to ride rides and play games when it is snowy/cold outside. I can imagine doing these things in the fall before it gets too chilly, but once it snows it is a sled/snowman time, not carnival games (for me at least). But the set is quite fun once built, so I don't have any issues with it.
  22. To be honest I had never seen an ad on this website before. I happened to scroll to the bottom and see one ONLY because other people mentioned one being there. I assume I am supposed to click on it so they continue to want to advertise here? I've been online since junior high in the mid/late 90s, so I am quite used to ads being in the way. I've never noticed them. I have a kindle fire with the "special offers" because it doesn't phase me seeing them on the main screen. I never click on them. I buy what I want, when I want it. I do all the research I need to before I purchase anything. I am as non-impulsive as one can be, so ads don't bother me. I don't even have cable, so I never see commercials..what a world I must live in... As far as paying regularly, I'd more than likely quit coming to the site, and I have over 3000 posts so I get on here quite often. I already have to spend money for my LUG's server needs, so more than likely I could get any LEGO information from them anyway. Plus, some of them are reviewers/moderators on other popular LEGO websites, so I wouldn't miss out on anything other than the small chit-chat here and there about new MOCs/sets. I had the free flickr for the longest time. I didn't care that I couldn't see "all" of my pictures, but now they give everyone more space for free, so I never had to bother paying for that pro version. I'd imagine if enough people were interested and it was sustainable, a very small fee would cover the cost for everything. Probably even less than the $5 quoted above. I don't mind the idea of having a paypal donation link, although it does appear more like begging instead of asking people to pay for what they use. You can look at it like this, You pay for what you use or you quit using it. If I had to pay, I'd probably quit using it. It wouldn't affect anything. I'd find other use for my time. I only get on when I'm free at work anyway, which isn't too often this time of the year.
  23. I'd think they want to only produce a set number of sets to begin with, so if they sell out there will be a time when they aren't producing any more just so they aren't sitting on a lot of back stock (similar to the comic book issue in the 90s, or the CMF issue a few Christmas seasons ago). So LEGO limits orders to a certain number for most people. I didn't realize they manually check the large orders, but that makes sense that it would take so long then. I agree though, if it didn't matter in the long run I wouldn't care if someone ordered multiples of a set, but I'd hate for them to do that and then I miss out on it and HAVE to buy from that reseller that bought them originally.
  24. Lisa actually looks decent, but those lips definitely look a tad odd. I don't love Marge due to the eye placement. You'd think they'd want her to look straight ahead. I think the new bodies will come in handy elsewhere, so I may pick them up just for them and toss out the heads, but at the same time I'm more of a licensed skin tone person, so these would be of little use to me also.. decisions, decisions.
  25. ^total nightmare! Although if you look at the winter village sets (at least the freebie last year with the sleigh) they used an adult female torso for the little girl, so she still had curves and whatnot. Kind of creepy. But I don't really notice when the females do and don't have curves. Some torsos would be obvious without the curves/chest but I don't think I see a difference.
