I don't buy/collect technic, so I guess I shouldn't answer here?? But I'm a rebel, so I will anyway... I loved LEGO as a kid and got back into it later (typical story), but I did get back into it after I met my wife and we had our daughter. I have considered calling it quits for the most part just because of lack of time. We have enough money to buy the sets I want here and there, but I really don't have much time after I get off of work to do anything with them. They just sit in boxes in our basement waiting for me. And by the time I have time, I end up doing something else. I figure I'd rather spend time with my wife and daughter doing something than just sitting alone in a cold room trying to sort/build something. I just feel a lack of motivation anymore with LEGO, but I don't want to miss out on some of the sets, so I still buy them. Money could be better spent, but since this is my only hobby it is actually cheaper than a lot of things. I collect LEGO, my wife collects clothes. As long as we are smart about our purchases it won't break the bank. I'm sure if I didn't have my wife/daughter, then I'd have all the time in the world to do whatever I wanted with LEGO, but I'd choose them over LEGO any day. As far as society goes, I've already done my part by becoming a doctor, right? I haven't thought about my own mortality before, so I guess if I died tomorrow, all of my pieces would be sitting in boxes in our basement. I have been meaning to go through all of them and sort my old pieces by set since I don't use them. I only use the new pieces to build with.

^Good points. I'd love to have more female figures, just to even out the people in my city. At least with the Christmas sets they seem to be including more females and of course the mini-dolls aspect of Friends, but as regular minifigures females are few and far between. I'd love to see more females in non-traditional roles just to "be the change you want to see." I, of course, make figures for my daughter that were designed as men and turn them into female, which is good for us, but not in the grand scheme of things for long term balance. Last Christmas I bought a few of the male doctor in 2012 hospital set and turned one into a female that "looked" like my daughter and she was super excited. It doesn't have the female curve lines and with a different head/hair combo you can't tell that it wasn't designed to be female. Granted, I came from the early 90s LEGO sets that didn't differentiate the torso at all. I rather like that idea. I don't particularly care for the Janus head though. I just think TLG should incorporate more females into their sets and call it good. At the very least, baby steps and just get a few more here and there to increase the percentage balance.

Stuff for Sale - SW, LOTR, Lone Ranger and others
TheLegoDr replied to Ludzik's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
You are located in the US? How much does shipping usually run with one or two figures? -
Interesting concept. I guess I will have to read up on this idea. I guess I don't understand how a virtual currency works compared to other country's currencies. Best of luck to you though!

Thanks for the review. Very informative. The set itself isn't great, but I could use the pieces for MOCs, so it works putt. I mostly by licensed sets for the figures anyway. I didn't need another Gandalf. Does he at least have a different head like in Orthanc? Radagast did look awesome. I want aware of those leaf pieces either on his torso. That's neat detailing. Azog I'd pay, but with his head and upper body being so large, it would have been nice for new arm molds, similar to dogpound from tmnt, only not that large. The abrupt cut off from head mold to little arms is quite appalling. Necromancer did look like a monkey, but they did a good job recreating a shadow in minifigure form. All the more I'm glad I got this for 15% off from tru a few weeks ago. I'm holding onto it until my birthday though. The 2x2 tiles with hole is also in the Parisian restaurant set which is the first place I've seen it. But I'm not surprised it is making its way into a lot of sets this next year.

Thanks for the review. I bought the set for the figures too, so I don't plan on building the set. But some of the pieces may come in handy for MOCs. This new orcs look like a good variation to the line. I'd love more ear pieces though.
-
I'd love more elf ears since I already have hoods. Anyone with a hood can be an elf, it's the ears that make them elves. But $4-$5 for this polybag just for the hair is a bit expensive. I thought I wanted a lot of it too just got the hair, but then I actually thought about it. Plus it seems a lot of mirkwood elves are dark haired, so too many with yellow may make Legolas blend in too much. But I agree, a polybag of a name character not the best for most people since so many people buy the sets anyway to get the named figures.

I mainly focus on licensed themes and exclusives. Does that count? If love to enjoy more in house themes, but after kingdoms was over, they haven't had anything that interested me. But it's neat getting licensed figures that are recognizable.

This is genuinely funny show. I wouldn't say I laugh out loud a ton, but I'm pleased with the episodes. You do get invested into the characters. I've always loved Zooey, but I like interaction between everyone the most. Schmidt is probably my favorite character though. He plays his role really well.

Thanks for the review. This set looks amazing. I'd say spot on to the size and shape of what is expect. I've seen a custom that is amazing, but this looks great for an official set. I will definitely buy two when I can, one for me and one for my daughter who claims this to be her favorite tower (she's 4).

Congrats to the winners so far. I'm shocked I was picked, but oh so thankful! Thanks again CopMike for organizing this!

There will always be a market for past modular buildings, but I agree the profits won't be like the cafe corner and green grocer. If I can't into it much later I would totally try to grab the previous sets. Although like now I'm more selective. I am modifying my own cafe corner and green grocer and probably won't bother with the market street, but if I got them then when they were available it wouldn't have mattered.

It would emit x-rays right? So I don't think it could be in an app. But you would need to take a lot home to use it like Tolkien said. It would be quicker than feeling, but feeling is quite easy for me. I just need time is all. Plus I wouldn't be x-raying anything else, so not sure if it is worth the expense. Neat to see though. Thanks.

It does seem extra detailed pieces like the head molds and special printing are done in China. Looking at that figure I think I may pass. Arm printing is neat, but at the same time that means everyone else has long sleeves and may look weird in MOCs. The head isn't right for me and I don't love the print job I'll have to see the rest of the figures before I make final judgment. I may pick them up for the accessories, but the figures so far are a pass. And this is coming from a Simpson's lover.

REVIEW: 71004 LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for the review. I'm surprised of the distribution, although again I'm not...I don't love the ratio of the rarer figures, because it seems to be the ones I want the most are them. But the review is thorough like always. There are a lot of great figures in this series. I will most likely get them all because I don't know how many times I see a neat accessory or helmet/hair or torso and want it and it is in a CMF that I don't have. So I might as well get them all so I have them. My daughter will want some too. I know she said she wants the pants guy and the Panda. Kinda odd how appealing the where are my pants guy is to little kids..funny concept I guess.- 131 replies

That's awesome getting a bow, quiver, and spear plus a weapons rack. I'd love to find them in the wild, but I highly doubt that will happen around here. I rarely see polybags in my area. So weird that the distribution is so spotty.

Does Powerman always have shades on? I've never heard of this character, but I welcome more skin colors. I would love if one side was a normal head for my castle custom figures instead of sunglasses only. It really limits him for me. I'll pick him up either way, but I probably won't display him with the rest of them.

I've only recently heard of bitcoin, so I'm not entirely sure what it even is. But I'd imagine it is a fairly new concept, so it may take a while before it takes off.

My only regret is not buying more clearance lego a few years ago. Everywhere I went they had done decent deals, but I figured I didn't need them so I passed on them. Last year/this year there was no clearance near me, so I haven't been able to get anything. Lego must have wised up. Other than that, no regrets. I don't get rid of any lego if there is a chance I will want it in the future. I've only sold off extra minifigure that I didn't necessarily need. I'm surprised what some people will pay for figures. I just sold a Legolas figure for $17, which her is only in 2 sets, but that is a lot of money for one figure. But now I can pay that forward for other figures I want. Everybody wins.

This is amazing. I somehow missed it originally, but thanks to the bump I was able to see this. Very impressive! Very inspiring too. I'd love to make a Hogsmeade village for Harry Potter someday and the Winter Village line actually is very fitting for the aesthetic I'm going for. WIth that said, this whole diorama is very fitting for what I'd want to go for. I will definitely look back at this for inspiration for my own builds. Best of luck on the future. Forty baseplates is somewhat ridiculous!! Keep up the great work!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I agree on creating your own thread to garner some more interest in the topic, even if it is a WIP thread. As for drab, BCD just has all dark bley it looks like. Everyone automatically assumed dark blue for a police building, but I'd think maybe a dark blue awning or something to break up the color, but the main building would probably be a more natural color. I could picture a tan building with some white accents. The problem is it is hard to build with white on the facade. The new Restaurant has white on the front and it barely works. For some reason that color doesn't lend itself well to most modulars that I've seen. I think whatever color you choose will be fine, but for some reason I'm seeing tan/dark tan in my head. I'd love to see a more medium nougat color used in something, but those bricks aren't too plentiful. -
Great work, yet again! Once you get this reputation, it may get hard to out-do yourself! The scale alone is impressive. The details are even more impressive. I've been wanting to do my own cinema as well. I don't mind the official release, but I was planning on modding it anyway, but I may go your route and just do something myself and not worry about modding it. I really like the bar scene. That looks really neat. I like the theater viewing room. I am unsure on the height of the ceiling in the lobby, but maybe that is how tall they really are in some places? The lettering is perfect though. Keep up the great work! I will definitely check back to this for inspiration.

That would be neat to see another exclusive figure, although then you end up buying everything twice or paying much more money for the figure alone than you normally would have. But it'd be neat to see. I wonder how much that really helps sales of those blu-ray combo packs?
-
Thanks CopMike! This is a generous raffle. I know it takes a lot of work/time to put this together and get everything shipped out. But not only were there A LOT of entries this year, but a lot of really creative ones too. It was neat looking at what everyone came up with. Great prizes! I would easily be happy with any of those prize packs. I had never realized Hulk was that much smaller than the Cave Troll. Not very hulking if you ask me...lame joke alert. Happy Christmas everyone!

This is exactly my idea for the contest, but you executed it way better than I could have. Looks great! You'll have my vote.
