The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I like that they are keeping the old style revolver instead of switching all of them to the new Lone Ranger mold. It has a lot more uses since the end will fit into a headlight brick and whatnot, unlike the LR mold.- 2,626 replies

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely be getting the western sets, and the ice cream set, but I think that is about it. But I'll wait for reviews on the rest of them. This theme is pretty neat, although will Emmet take the lead as most copies of a minifigure?- 2,626 replies

^ Does the new give-away include a classic space guy? I thought they all looked like build a minifigure rehashes, except for the astronaut. I think last year they had a classic space guy in them though. But people want more than one of him and you have to spend >$60 at TRU to get one of those freebies, whereas a classic space guy in a CMF pack for $3 is a lot easier to swallow. Bubble - the scroll would belong to Shakesepeare because it says "to build or not to build" and Taco Tuesday Guy has a dish with pieces of cheese? or something inside of it.

Straight on, the ears on Thranduil look a lot better, but I think it will still look like neck ears when it is all said and done. Thanks for the pictures. Close up shots of those figures really help seal the deal for me. I may want to buy more than originally expected (as in extras of some sets). Bard may be one of the coolest looking LEGO figures this year though. For some reason, he just looks bad ***

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

I assumed the long cape looked like the build a Zurg cape from Toy Story and the awnings on the carousel look to be long capes as well, granted I haven't build either of those sets. So it was just an assumption.- 2,626 replies

Nice little build. Good foliage. I agree on the helmet not fitting a ranger. I'd think something less bulky and easier to blend in with the surroundings would be a good idea.

Very impressive. The scale alone is astonishing, then throw in all of the details. Each of those eras are covered nicely, at least from my limited knowledge of them. I like all of the miniature scaled builds and the characters together. I hadn't thought about using some of those torsos in that way. Thanks for the idea. I did see someone mention space and caveman times..those could be neat to see, but I understand your more realistic approach here. And the map is a nice touch. Something you could have easily left out, but I'm glad you included that.

The scale is impressive. Very detailed. Mosaics look great, but they take up so many pieces/room that it isn't conceivable for me to build one. Thanks for sharing!

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
$90 is a lot of money for any set, let alone this one. I think the idea is neat and the figures are cool, but I don't think people are buying these to collect all of the figures like they do with some of of the licensed themes. They will buy these because the sets are neat or useful and the figures are neat/useful...I could be wrong. I like the pieces being used here. It resembles a LEGO movie batcave. I would doubt they will release Batman vehicles for the movie, only because DC basically is a batman theme right now, so it might take away from their other licensed property (which would have more money going to a license), so they wouldn't want to hurt their sales there. Plus, there might be a stipulation in the contract for using Batman's likeness in the movie vs in sets. I don't know any details. Vitruvius will be a neat figure and it would be nice to have different eyes, but this can work too. I like Stass Allie also, but same thing about the eyes.We need more variety in skin tones. The Lord Business cape is long, but they have used it in Toy Story and the Winter Village Market set. I do think the legs will break off easily. Not good for kids playing with it. I'd think they'd want better stability with their play sets, but if anyone has touched a Dino set, they'll know LEGO must not care about stability... those things fall apart by looking at them.- 2,626 replies

I do like that pilot printing a lot. It is unfortunate that you will need to buy multiples of this and switch out the helmets to keep them looking the same. The printing LEGO does these days is great, but it also kind of takes away from where they used to be. It is harder and harder to mix old/new figures due to the printing differences.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. These sets look great. I was already planning on buying them, but this confirms it. I love the new figures and a change of clothes for both Penguin AND Batman with the scuba suit. I love everything they have to offer. The sets are decent enough, but I mostly buy them for the figures, so I'm good on both fronts. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to get your own sticks for Nightwing. Aren't they just the 3L/4L bar? 2014 is a good year for LEGO.

Future of the CMF as licensed characters
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Each license is probably treated differently. A star wars license doesn't allow just figures to be sold, but that doesn't mean they didn't get a different agreement with Fox for Simpson's. I'm pretty sure the press release said they will have one set and a cmf line. A retro live would sell out quick. You would only need prints, no new molds except for what they had to replace (old helmets and whatnot). Classic castle, pirates/imperials (although I prefer the new versions), classic space plus blacktron I/II... -
Dare I say, best series ever. It seems the crowd is pretty split. That just means more for me. I'll have to pick up one set for me and one for my daughter plus some extras of Shakespeare for sure. I was hoping one of the cop robots would be in this. I know they come in a set, but I wanted to amass a small army of them. The western outfits look great!

They won't just say a proposal is confirmed right as it hits the bird. They will still need to do the review period to make sure it is feasible cost wise and piece wise. It may not be a guaranteed like you claim. We will just have to wait.

I know, but I bide my time and end up getting everything cheaper on eBay auction style versus set prices on bricklink. But I have bricklink others before.

I was expecting medium nougat colored, not orange. Dark tan worked for the other orcs, but some color variety is good. Hopefully not that orange though

I think, like most promotions, it is until a certain date or as supplies last. I try to pick up the promotions early in the cycle to guarantee one.- 80 replies

Cheap wave for me. But I do like the new Chewie, but will result to eBay after a few months after prices go down.

Thanks for sharing. These look great, as expected. I expect the bright colors for the target audience, but not for the source material. Needless to say, we will pick up the whole line for our daughter. I love that it shows all three bear brothers in the Brave set. I hope that is a new printed target, but it is probably a sticker. Plus, more cookies!

Personally all of the sets look fantastic and preliminary sets are notorious for looking terrible compared to the officials. I will welcome all of those sets into my house, except for junior Spider-Man. Another big fig will be a nice addition. I wanted to find the red robin cycle poly, but with all of these extras in these sets, I won't worry about it now.

I was originally thinking of the batman wings in a dark brown, but I'd want to see something more not in flight I guess. Something more curved. But those could work quite well since they have the mold and it puts it near the body. It would separate the wings from the arms though and that wouldn't be exactly how he is portrayed.
