Wow, that's great. She has a logical/mathematical mind to help out in those situations. My wife is understanding and supportive, but she doesn't usually go out of her way to trouble herself with them. I get excited when I build something and show her and she feigns interest for my sake, but she really couldn't care less I think. She claims she wished she had LEGO growing up but her parents wouldn't buy it for her. I'd assume she'd be more interested, but since she never had the bug before, she probably never will. Normally she will ask what I may want or if there is anything new out and I'll show her and then she'll be on her way. She just loves me. Plus, it's a hobby that is creative with something physical to show for it compared to a hobby where it amounts to nothing (video games is the big example she uses).

Oky, that last one = brilliant. I don't know a ton about SW, but that seems fitting with all the reuses of the molds and subtle color shifts. That paintbrush works well too.

News LEGO Architecture 2014 News & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Herky's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Spencer's is a great creation. I've thought about building that version, until I heard of the architecture set. I might still end up building it.. It looks good for the size. Some of the shape isn't what I would picture in my head, but I can understand why they used the pieces they did. I'm sure I'll pick up at least one for my daughter since she loves the Eiffel Tower, and maybe one for me. Thanks for sharing.- 180 replies

I hope Manbat has a different look too. I'm okay with larger wings on the back, but the Chima aspect only works because of the armor they attach to. For an ordinary person that doesn't wear armor, they sit too far from the body to look very good. I think that is why the CMF/MF bat worked so well. Granted, I wouldn't mind seeing something different than that also. I'd expect something large like these, but in a more minifigure form, which I'm guessing would cost too much money for a pointless mold. They may want to get more use out of this new bat head mold. I guess we will see.

Lego Marvel Superheroes Game Announced
TheLegoDr replied to MattZitron's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
I only read negative reviews. If the product is good, I will find that out when I use it. I want to know what is wrong with things before I get myself into them. But I'm a pessimist by nature, so... I haven't made it to Wal-Mart yet to pick up my pre-ordered copy. They say they hold them for 10 days, so I'm sure I'll have one waiting for me. It is smart to have the figure in with the game to prevent returns. I would have preferred to find someone who didn't really care about their job and would give me a few extra IPs, but it looks like I'd have to buy multiple copies of the game and sell off the rest OR just buy extra polybags online. I remember GameStop gave me a few extra Elronds, which was nice. As much as I want to play this game, I'm so backlogged in games I wouldn't be able to play this for quite some time. Maybe I'll do what others did and sell the game (keep the IP) and when it goes down in price months from now, I can pick up the game at a nice discount. So far I've bought most of the LEGO games for about $20 or less, so that helps a lot. I remember getting the first Batman and HP for 10 on Target clearance. -
Shayd - thanks for that information. You always have thought it and informative responses, so I like reading what you write. I have heard of people buying bulk from the back, but I didn't know that is what it was called. I did ask one what was in the back and ended up getting a lot of dark green bricks, but I hadn't considered possibly buying a large box for $70. But perhaps in the future I will.

That Chima Bat is ugly...I had high hopes for that. Although, those wing pieces do look cool. That does make me worried though. I'd think either the MF wings for Man-Bat or maybe something like these only larger. They would need a bracket to go under the head to make it seamless with the body. The Chima wings clip onto armor and sits out too far from the body to look right since Man-Bat isn't wearing armor ever.

Is your LEGO Room getting too cold?
TheLegoDr replied to splatman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Only $7k... I was going to comment, my LEGO room is in our basement, so it does get quite cold down there. So cold, in fact, that I can't be down there for too long to build/sort. And with winter coming up, I don't know how often I'll be down there. I may need to invest in a space heater, but then that takes away money from more precious LEGO.... -
Great details. Love the figure mash-ups. Very fitting. Instantly recognizable. The only thing I could think to do is maybe add a 1x1 plate underneath Dorothy's feet to make her taller than all the others. I would never expect to see something like this, but job well done. Very impressive.

Shayd - what is a k-box?
-
That had is new, technically. The friends set it comes in is the advent calendar released this year, just a few months before this exclusive set. So I wouldn't really call it 'not new' based on that. Good review. I haven't opened mine yet, but I didn't open last year's either.

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?
TheLegoDr replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I will buy one for sure. If I can find a discount I would totally pick up more. I might be willing to buy another one at full price, but I'll see how the winter wave sits with me with all of the other themes I like. So far the start wars sets don't seem appealing and the lego movie sets keep going down in desire after reading descriptions of sets. If love to get more Elves, but I want more elf hair personally. I don't love neck ears, but it'll do since that is what we are getting. I think I have around 8 elf polybag, but I like these new elves a lot more personally. I own 3 uruk hai army sets. Two were found at 30% off. For some reason I want more orcs instead of uruks. I love that the orcs in the cheapest set will k have ears. I'll probably buy a lot of that one of it is cheap enough.- 102 replies

This is beautiful and inspiring. It has many details I'd love to incorporate into my own castle layout. I have one built, but I wasn't happy with some portions, so I may take a closer look at this and see if there are any changes I can make. But the entire layout is impressive and detailed. I love what I am seeing.

Future of the CMF as licensed characters
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well, the "fleshie" skin tone is because of the figures representing the Licensed skin tone IP. I like both yellow/licensed skin tone; however, if doing a CMF I would prefer yellow. Granted, I can't imagine them doing a licensed CMF (outside of Simpsons) only because of the skin tone and cost needed to justify it. Army building is a great side effect of CMFs, but the target audience probably doesn't army build that often. They are great impulse purchases so they probably end up with multiples of the same figure, but that might not be their intention, unlike many AFOLs (myself included). I'd love more civilian licensed skin tone figures, or the very least more generic classic torsos without yellow print showing through so I can modify them myself. I think that is the best idea any fan can hope for and they seem to do it more and more. -
Thor does have large impressive structures, so I wouldn't see them as LEGO sets. However, they can always take a small section and make it into a set. Man of Steel only used a small portion of things that could have been larger. With that said, I'd love some new Thor characters in a set, but I doubt they'd do more than Thor and Malekith, which is fine, but I'd love more from that realm. And yes, it may be more historic than modern like the other Super Heroes, but I really don't see it resembling anything LOTR personally.

Everytime I've ever looked at bricks and pieces, I've never seen the pricing next to it. I've always had to call them directly and ask for prices on pieces I submitted and they seem annoyed by doing that. I'd much prefer to view prices online.

That does sounds awful. I had high hopes for that set, but by description alone, I will pass. I was going at least for kingdoms, if not a nod to classic castle. I'll pass on anything of the new castle sets.

After going to hothbricks, that Grievous figure looks loads better. I just prefer the eyes myself, but u think they captured the figures quite well. However, I don't think I've seen that movie that he was in, so I could be wrong.

I was surprised to see this with illegal connections. It does make sense long term why they chose this, but not my first pick. I'd like more explanation too as to why the other sets weren't chosen. I'll wait and see the final product before I say I will buy it. By eliminating that many projects from that many review periods, it makes me worried for Ghostbusters and Oz. Licensing might be difficult, and/or they might only choose one..

Looks great. I love the roofline and the addition of the headlight bricks turned in. I really need to sit down and sort so I can come up with something for my character. I never have really taken the time to flesh him out for GoH...

Future of the CMF as licensed characters
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Correct, you go for the accessories now since all of the bodies are the same other than sorry legs or dress pieces. But with multiple mixed bodies with the same type of round belly could prove difficult and make it harder to find the accessory. But I will l wait and see what comes with what and see how hard it is. It's hard enough finding the actual figures in stores. -
BTTF and the Elusive White Minifigure Hair
TheLegoDr replied to MKJoshA's topic in General LEGO Discussion
True. Other than Steve Martin, who has genuine white hair? Most will have gray or a mix of gray/white. With that said, I would love more hair styles in gray or white. More wrinkled face prints too. -
^ do you mean Adam west/Burt ward? Also that shade of blue does look good, but I'll have to see the rest of the set before I say I will buy it. Thanks for sharing.

Tony did that because his contract was up..once he agrees to the crazy amounts of money for future films, he'll be back with a new suit. Otherwise, good funnies! Is it odd that Batman and Iron Man would be my two favorite characters out of the current film universe?? But that is probably due to Bale/Downey Jr taking the roles.

My 3 year old wanted to watch Merida last night, so we watched it. Made me excited for the upcoming sets. Highland Games could be linked to when she "shoots for her own hand" against the other kingdoms. Although, unfortunately, they probably won't include a more battle ready Merida complete with banner insignia. That's just my castle love showing through. It won't matter how the sets look, we will buy them for our daughter and she'll love them. We aren't the target audience here people...
