  1. I don't think I could use the technique, but I am really interested in how you did the large tower roof?
  2. Whatever happened to the Polar Expedition subtheme that was discussed last year?
  3. My local LEGO store manager confirmed the price of the ship is $249.
  4. Impressive. I love Harry Potter LEGO. It is what brought me out of my dark ages. With that said, I'm excited and disappointed to see this. You did a great job capturing the shape and details. Nice job on the round roofs! In disappointed because I am also building a miniature Hogwarts and you posted yours first . After studying the pictures yours is a larger scale than mine, so at least they will still be different. But keep up the great work. I can't wait to see the other pictures! Good luck in the contest.
  5. The cow feet do look different color..maybe the cow is wearing boat does it something to not slip off? Obviously it would fit into tree wacky lego movie, but would suck for castle people like me. I will wait to see better pictures, but it might be another d2c set that I will pass on. I love ships, but this doesn't do it for me. And the figures can all be had elsewhere. For the price I expected more. They are pulling another Orthanc here...high price, lite number of exclusive figures. At least pull a star wars ewok village at this price point. Give oror some incentive. But I'm sure I'll be proven wrong and it will sell incredibly well. It will be a nice Steampunk parts pack probably.
  6. The back of the polybag says distributed in the USA, so not sure if that indicates anything or if they would get different packaging for Europe.
  7. I still tend to buy the sets directly from LEGO when they come out instead of sitting around going for a deal. Normally because I'm afraid of missing out on something. They have been some sets that had very short production runs, so I'm glad I got them when I did. I like getting deals, but typically if the set of too expensive to get it at msrp, then I probably don't want it enough. It didn't help as lot of the sets I want anyway are exclusives, so they are almost immune to sales anywhere. The VIP points aren't a great incentive, but for people like me who do buy from them it is nice to have points to get free sets every now and then.
  8. Thanks for the review. I still haven't found this bad me, so I ended up ordering them. As excited add I was, I still have them unopened. I need to get around to breaking them out. The shield would have been a nice touch, and I would have gladly taken one over some of the other pieces included. But still, it is nice to get something extra even though I'm only buying this for the figure. Buying this polybag (if you can find it) for $5 or buying it for about $9 on bricklink for the Lake-town Chase version, it's a no brainer to pick this up.
  9. Awesome job. I still haven't seen the movie, but I did read the book earlier this year. I don't particularly remember much about the descriptions, but this fits in well with what I've seen of other pictures of Lake-town. That Smaug is really interesting. I've been meaning to build a beast of some sort, but still haven't found the time. Keep up the great work. The entire scene looks like I'd picture it.
  10. ^oh to only have $10k in student loan debt ... I have heard a lot of people say that too, about the only having blocks vs all of these specialty pieces. I think a lot of these MOCs show just how creative someone can be with the new pieces. I'd say the models are a lot more detailed now than they ever have, but most non-AFOLs wouldn't know that since they don't follow the hobby like we do. Building something interesting with basic blocks can be good, but probably have to use your imagination quite a bit to visualize it unlike the new "specialty" pieces. It seems most adults I run into that know that I'm in the hobby seem interested, but then it's left at that. They have no interest in joining the community or anything.
  11. Love this! I've been wanting to build a medieval house, and this is very fitting. I can definitely see some techniques I'd want to borrow here. I love the windows the most. The tiling on the stone doesn't look bad at all. I've been contemplating how I want to do my stonework. The black/white color scheme works really well here. I may consider some color in mine, but I'm not sure yet. Keep up the great work. I love the whole scene.
  12. Thanks for the review. I immediately wanted this set when I first saw it, but after seeing the review and the comparison to the older camper, I will probably pass on this. I much prefer this one to the 2009 version, but I probably don't need two campers. If I didn't have the previous version I would buy this instantly. I also like the car/caravan too. It's funny, I buy all of these campers, yet I've never been camping myself .
  13. It is tough to say if this was a serious question posed, a trolling response, or something to stimulate conversation/debate on EB. I would agree that I don't see Friends coming to an end anytime soon. I end up buying Friends more than other themes, just to make sure we get the sets before they retire. My daughter has a huge stockpile of sets that aren't opened because we will give them to her throughout her collecting/playing years. That way she can still get them and we won't have to pick them up at high aftermarket prices. As far as Star Wars and Super Heroes, each license would have their own number of sets that are approved of each year. Since Friends would have the same requirement, they wouldn't take up any extra shelf space away from the other themes. Some stores just may not get certain sets or in the quantity a customer may like. Even if they were displayed in the same aisle, there are a certain allotted slots for each theme. I love LOTR/Hobbit, but most stores around me don't have them on the shelves, so I could say that Star Wars is taking up shelf space from my precious Middle Earth sets... see how that isn't a good argument?
  14. At first thought, you would think LEGO is padding piece counts to fool us simpletons thinking we got a great deal. Obviously there is more to it than that, and from reading what the above posters have said, it makes sense as to why certain pieces would be picked at certain times. I definitely like following what some of you people have to say because it keeps me informed on a more business/engineer focused side of things. I don't have any background in any of that, so it is interesting to read about.
  15. ^I'd suggest patience. CopMike has to send these out in his free time, so it might be a while. It's free LEGO and it was a very generous raffle, so I'd recommend waiting. It probably won't be until after the New Year. Happy (almost) New Year everybody.
  16. That is awesome. I'd say that will be one of the best sellers of 2014 if that is indeed the set. I'm not even into classic space, but I know I will pick one up! Thanks for the find.
  17. Is it bad when you can't remember all of the sets you got for Christmas? This year wasn't as large as a haul in regards to size, but financially it was probably about the same. Town Hall VW Van Sopwith Camel Jabba's Sail Barge Dol Guldur Battle Dol Guldur Ambush Mirkwood Elf Army Laketown Chase BTTF CUUSOO Winter Village Market Thanksgiving Feast polybag and then a LUGBulk order to come to round things out. It was a good year, yet again.
  18. Really neat set-up! The shields are neat, but I mostly like the figure placement and grouping. It isn't just a whole bunch of figures in a row like most army pictures. This shows more formation, more action..I don't know how to put it. But it looks good! I may have to borrow some ideas if/when I ever get around to posting my army pictures.
  19. Nicely done. I've been wanting to try my hand at this sometime, but it's hard to compete with some of you builders. Great job. Very fitting to the source material!
  20. Very nicely done. I like the wood flooring too! Nice touch with them being on their side. The arches are a nice touch and the windows work well. The instrument is smart piece usage too. Good luck. Thanks for sharing.
  21. ^True, the stipulation of 4 8x8 modules might let it fit right in. I was always confused by that bit, so I just went with a 16x16 for mine. Either way, best of luck. It is definitely a neat build!
  22. Finally, I am able to post my pictures. I originally wanted to do a Santa scene, but since that was done multiple times and effectively at that, I figured I could in no way compete with them so I had to change it up. This build didn't take me but maybe an hour or two, but I feel it fits right in with the rest of the Market. I always love these contests, so it's fun to participate, but it would be more fun to win . I hope everyone enoys! First we have an overview of the whole booth. It shows a little boy throwing a dart at some balloons on the back wall. I figured the dark brown would be a nice color instead of reddish-brown all the time. The dark green roof helps throw in some more color. Next we have a straight on shot of the booth. You can see the front design better with the whole layout. You can just make out the balloons in the back. The front uses the nougat color to add in some variety with the dark red and dark green. I just took the current light post for continuity purposes. (My daughter loves the bunny girl on Bob's Burgers, so I had to throw that in there) Here you can see a dart actually popping one of the balloons! And here is a close-up of the boy throwing his next dart. I only have a few more pictures, so I'll add a link to the rest. I hope you enjoyed looking at this Market booth. Don't forget to vote! Best of luck to everyone! I can't wait to see what next year brings.
  23. Pretty much spot on. Lego is going to have an easy job releasing the next mini modular set since everyone else has done the work for them. Great job!
  24. The micro scale is impressive. I love all of the little details throughout. It would fit well within a winner village. But I don't think it will work for the contest. It looks way too big compared to the rules. Keep up the great work though.
  25. Good idea. I've used mine as a storage/sorting tray but this would work well too. I don't like how flimsy the plastic is, but if this works I may try my hand at this.
