Interesting group. I haven't seen too many peg-legs or hooks in GoH for some reason, so that will be interesting. I think I may too much of a purist (for now) for brickforge, etc products. I bought some from Brickwarriors or Brickforge and they just didn't fit well with LEGO. The heads kept getting stuck in the helmet. Either way, I'm sure these guys will be a formidable foe on the battlefield.

Tear it apart. Tear it all apart! mwah-ha-ha... Or don't. I struggled with tearing a lot of buildings apart, but then I used the pieces for MOCing and it has been fun. But now trying to find all of the pieces to rebuild them is struggling, since I still have some of the MOCs together..grr. It's a lose-lose situation. Always need more pieces. Always need more display sets.

I'd love to MOC some of these great locations, but I just don't have a lot of black or white (odd I know). I do like this MT that was posted more than the other one, but the other one has the luxury of votes being grandfathered in, so it at least has a halfway chance...

Thanks for the review. I definitely will pick this up, but I'm not loving it like the earlier installments. Just to fyi, that torso is not new or exclusive to the Mixer. It is also available in these sets. I like the colors used, although I'm sure I will mod it a bit. I don't like the constant re-use of the torsos in city. I only have a few modulars and winter village sets and I already have all of the torsos LEGO uses. I will throw in my own elves and call it good.

Surprisingly not boring. Whenever there is basically one color scheme, it can look a bit boring (even though significantly more realistic than the Modulars). But this pulls it off quite nicely. I like the effect it gives.

Nice representation! Loved that movie as a kid. That part always made me sad...to destroy such a beautiful car. Good thing it wasn't the real thing! You captured it well in LEGO form. I am terrible at car building, but this seems to be a good rendition.

REVIEW: 71007 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I agree about the skirt pieces. The cloth needs to be longer, or they need to rework the pattern because I hate that it flies open like that. It is odd they have dress prints on slopes and sometimes printed skirts, then they throw in cloth skirts. Doesn't make much sense. I like consistency. Either way, I like the Battle Goddess to an extent. I mostly would want her shield. I'd like her helmet more if it didn't have hair attached to it. BUT I understand why the hair is attached and it fits for the character.- 156 replies

Interesting idea. I hadn't thought to build Tremors MOCs. I'm not entirely sure if I've seen Tremors. I've seen some of the sequels (which were super cheesy as well), but not sure if I've seen the original. But this fits with the theme.

Plus, you should probably insure it so if something were to happen, you'd be covered? I've never moved via plane before, so I can't say. The most I've ever done was had a few PAB cups from Chicago flying back to Omaha...and needless to say they spilled inside my carry-on (I only use carry-on), so that was fun... But I'd think moving great distances via plane, I'd break everything down into separate bags. That way it won't accidentally break on the trip AND you get the enjoyment of rebuilding them. Sometimes you forget about how much fun some sets are to build.

I have no idea. I always referred to the late 80s/early 90s as classic castle since that is when I was actually growing up and playing with LEGO. But there were LEGO before my time and after that I had no connection to, but I've never considered them classic...

That never crossed my mind. I will be doing that as soon as I get home then!

I love that we are getting some more variety, but Batman is my favorite so I always welcome more suits and villains and vehicles of his. I didn't pick up the earlier sets, but even if I did the rehashed figures look a million times better than the original, I'd have to buy them all again anyway. But it will be good getting other figures too. I hope they get some more Batman next year then since they are taking away the focus this year.

Interesting build for sure. I'd say probably don't have the rear of the building all the way to the edge of the baseplate. It seems officially they have some room back there. Granted, I think my Town Hall expansion was going to eat into that room. I assume if you had all of the lined up backwards, a minifigure could walk to all of the back entrances??? Although CC and MS don't have rear entrances, so I guess it doesn't really matter. Otherwise I like the build. I like the idea of a hospital within this theme. I think it could look quite well. Maybe add in a heli-pad on the roof? I'd imagine they'd want one of those, although scaling may be difficult.

One of each (outside of MS, and a bricklinked CC and Sand blue Grocer), but one each of the rest. I'd be interested in extras considering the piece type and amount you get, but I don't have that kind of money to spend. I am unable to get the rest of the sets I want, so I have to limit to one quantity. If I buy multiples, then that means other sets won't get purchased. I have plans to expand the Town Hall (but nothing like other people have done), but I can't swing another 200$ on that set. I may look into just bricklinking pieces, but that will be ridiculous too. I have too many sets/figures wanted PLUS other projects that need money. No wonder nothing ever gets accomplished, I'm spread too thin.

There is a demand for these, but it all boils down to price. However, I am quite content with the lattice parts to occupy my rounded windows, until LEGO makes this part officially. But I'd also like lattice for the 1x2x3 windows (not rounded). I think that would be useful too. Looking back at the box art, I am always surprised since I put the lattice in right when I bought all of them. So I don't think I've ever really seen them without the lattice. That is how used to the lattice I actually am. Kind of funny..

It seems for older sets, it typically is cheaper to bricklink the whole thing unless you find a ridiculously good deal. For fairly new sets, it seems to buy new if the price hasn't gone up too far. Bricklinking a Fire Brigade for that matter costs almost 100$ more than buying it brand new when it was available. But piece any set out to sell and it is amazing to see how all of the parts combined can be so much more expensive than the set MSRP.

I'm assuming JaseTJ was meaning the newer molded arms of the CMF. They would then have better color distribution around the arm if they did it that way. Granted, I don't know how the molding process works, as in if they could move the mold line lower, instead of higher like on the Simpson figures. Which that could also play into boots for people. It would give the proper color all the way around the feet instead of just the front.

[Midi-Scale MOC] Barad-Dûr and Minas Morgul
TheLegoDr replied to BalrogJ's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nicely done. You should also make a smaller Orthanc in the same scale then. The full scale is fun. I've considered doing this as well (although I always forget about Minas Morgul). But I thought about either doing this in micro/midi scale for the Two Towers OR doing a full scale Barad Dur in the same vein as Orthanc...cheaper for smaller, but it might be cool for a LEGO show with the two towers across the table. -
My wife would only care about the monetary value to help pay for my funeral, I'm sure. My daughter and I play together all of the time, so she'd be sad if the LEGO had to go away. So I'm sure I'd just give it to her provided she was still interested. Otherwise, sell it all to make some money back on my after-life costs.

Company of Thorin Oakenshield project - Compeleted!
TheLegoDr replied to Pate-keetongu's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
These were fun to follow. You really did a good job with them. I wouldn't begin to know how you pieced them together, but I'd want to see more. That Gandalf is outstanding (although all look really good). I really want to see Lord of the Rings characters now. And then display them on my shelf. Any tips? Keep up the great work. -
Also, I think Avalonia's colors are dark green and sand green. You might want to switch the regular green flag to a dark green one.
-
Thanks for the input. I assumed the colors were more important than the sigil, but I was curious as to what represents what. I saw someone use the black falcon crest in the north, so that is what brought it up.
-
I always thought that was strange. Although, only since coming out of the dark ages. As a kid, I had I think one Duplo set and I think they were yellow. But I just accepted that LEGO Figures were yellow. I never questioned skin color. Now as an adult, you see color more. I think kids are more color blind. They know people are different, but it doesn't phase them. They just want to play with other kids. I would agree that it would be good to get more variety for System scale LEGO. I'd love more skin colors, especially females. I'm really digging nougat color of (Vitruvius, Cherokees from Lone Ranger, etc).

Pretty neat. I only buy modular buildings for city, but this fits in well. I don't love the light bley above the top floor. It didn't seem consistent. But otherwise it looks really neat.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I must be crazy because I think these look terrible. Good idea, bad execution. They look hurried and thrown together. I'm sure we could build most of them without any worry. Plus the scale to the official being off makes them less wanted. Granted I don't shop at TRU so these are an easy pass.
