I can't wait to see pictures, but it does sound like 2015 will be the year for DC in terms of variety. I will definitely be picking them all up. And with JW sets, it sounds like an expensive year next year.

Ivan001 - Interesting seeing them side by side. I don't think I've seen that before. It is interesting in that picture how bright the sand blue is. It really pops. I love how mine looks. Since you have 2 grocers now, you could/should mirror build one and place it elsewhere in the line-up. That way they won't clash with each other? Just a thought. Roger_Smith - Is that an American Dad reference or is that your name? And welcome to the club of having a sand blue grocer. It really is a sight to behold.

I've considered doing it. I actually used LDD (back in 2010!) to build a house we were looking at buying. It was this beautiful tudor style with high vaulted ceilings and arches in the living room. A ginormous fireplace. It had a lot of neat features. Anyway, I had a good chunk built in LDD, then my computer quit working AND we ended up not buying it anyway, so that is lost. But with our new house. I've considered doing it again, although I don't have a computer or time to use LDD. I'd assume compromises would depend on scale. I probably wouldn't want it too large, for the sake of displaying it. So maybe I'd need it to fit on a 48x48 baseplate with some yard exposed. I guess the main compromise would be the front picture window. It is probably 6 feet tall and 10 feet wide. It was custom built for the house originally back in the '40s. There would be no LEGO trans pieces to occupy that size without having seams from trans bricks or trans panels.

Market Street I am not a fan, but thanks for the detailed look. I've been slacking on this thread it seems. MS had some interesting features for sure, but also a lot that doesn't make sense to me. I actually did not like the 2x2 round grill cover for the ground. I thought it looked too out of place. Along with that yellow plant holder thing? I also don't understand the side market area. Why are there two openings? There is the gated entryway and then an open entryway...even though nothing is really behind there? Again, it shows a fan built it compared to a master builder. I realize that was in the early days of these creations, but it is interesting how vastly different it is from the rest of the series. There is a reason why so many people exclaim it is not part of the series. It just doesn't fit in as well. I've considered bricklinking it to have it, but I would do some heavy modifcations..which then makes you wonder, would I really be bricklinking it? I don't think the Dutch architecture goes with the rest of the line either, so would it really fit in...plus I don't like medium blue. It is too easy for me to find things wrong with this. And my guess as to why it was included in the mini Modulars. Not because it was included in the series, but they needed another build to make the set justifiable. I don't think it sold too well anyway, but having one fewer builds would probably not have sold any better. As for Green Grocer, probably the best modular to date in terms of overall aesthetic. But I surprisingly really like Pet Shop and Town Hall and Parisian Restaurant...okay I like them all (minus MS). Thanks for sharing!

Why does everyone keep saying fictional character? Jeesh! I'm sure with the Target Audience, this will fit right in compared to a Winter Fair ride...

Very nicely done! I love all of the details here. You don't see casinos very often. I've walked through a casino once, but I don't remember what it looked like. Keep up the great work!

I'm in the wrong business. If I had the equipment and time, I could pump out just as good, if not better, buildings. I'm not claiming to be the best modular builder since I don't have a ton of experience, but I've never been so pleased with their work that I'd offer that much money on instructions. But to each their own. Do they end up being same scale as official Modulars? As in, 2000+ pieces and height and everything?

^I think that is the problem. They are a relatively new thing here in the states, at least near me. I grew up in an area without one. The first time I ever saw one was when I went to grad school some 1200 miles away! I didn't know how to drive through it. That city had a few, but Indianapolis had this giant one in the city center that didn't even have lanes. Everyone was basically running into each other. It was odd. My current city has at least 10 round-abouts. They are much easier to handle now and I don't mind them as I did before. It keeps the flow of traffic moving...if you are aware what they are supposed to be doing. Many still want to do a 4 way stop.

Thanks for sharing. Very enjoyable to look at. I loved M:Tron and Blacktron II as a kid. I just recently started rebuilding my old sets and trying to find cheap deals online. I finally was able to acquire a MCM last month and I was blown away by the size of it. I can't believe I didn't have it as a kid. So I can only imagine the size of yours compared to that! The problem is the trans neon green canopy and the wheels go for as much as I bought my whole set for! I'd love to have more copies of it. I don't like the color differences with the trans bright green vs neon green, but I understand why you made those changes. I like seeing updated versions of these sets. I'm glad they include similar play features and everything, even though I don't play with my LEGO

Great MOD. I love the full scale one. I haven't really been into double wides as often, but they have their place. The double tall can be an issue for my layout also. But this one doesn't as bad as some. I think because the height and width are more to scale than the extra tall version with the side stairs and patio. My qualm is I love how the exposed chimney and patio/balcony look on the official version, but I do want it taller. And it looks like it would be hard to get into it when it is inbetween buildings. I may have to attempt MODding it also. Although I still have to buy my first copy (and I'm still in need of the Cinema). The PR blows that out of the water though.

Lego 10185 Green Grocer--New Build & Review
TheLegoDr replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Town
Well, technically wouldn't ANY Modding make it lose its classic look? I am one that plans on doing a full interior with mine. I actually already have the kitchen together with a living room on the main floor and then the upper floor has a bedroom and a bathroom. -
Very neat concept. I like how you positioned all of the villains. Great job on Rhino and I like how Goblin is standing. What did you use to make his legs like that? Definitely more Venom is always welcome, but this was a nice selection. It would probably be ideal if you had the newer Doc Ock. Either way, great job. I hadn't thought of doing this. I could see this being really popular at LEGO shows, although I hate displaying figures out of fear of someone stealing them.

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?
TheLegoDr replied to KingPixels's topic in Community
With all of these newer figures coming out, I am definitely interested in buying some of these bootlegs. I bought the Winter Soldier set on eBay months ago, but I'd prefer a lot of these others. Would people recommend Aliexpress for most of the shopping or wait until they hit eBay? I assume people haven't had too many orders gone missing with the Aliexpress shipping from China. -
^Interesting. I noticed mine got whiter, but I didn't notice a different feel to the surface of the bricks/figures when I did it. Although, I only used 3% peroxide and no vanish oxy clean. I wonder if that made a difference?

Like others have stated, there should be information on the splash page. You usually can estimate the total based on weight plus packing materials. I haven't made a ton of purchases (17 total) but shipping has never been over $5, and is usually closer to $3.50 or so. But it depends on what you are actually buying and location, as stated.

I'd prefer unassembled, only because that is part of the fun! Although I don't know what would be better, unassembled or assembled to see if everything is together. Like someone mentioned above, someone tried hiding newer pieces in the middle somewhere because it was assembled. You wouldn't know that until you decided to take it apart, if you ever did. In that instance, I'd prefer unassembled also. I recently bought a Mega Core Magnetizer and the description said complete/ not complete, as in the seller didn't know. But the picture at the very least had the main parts I was looking for considering the expense for the big wheels and the trans neon green panel. In the end, it was missing 2 pieces I think. So I'm pleased with that purchase. It did end up coming half assembled though, which was odd.

Don't get me started on collecting cards! Granted, I never bought them to "invest." I only bought them because I liked collecting my favorite players. As for LEGO, I have been "collecting" certain minifigures, but ultimately I'm buying what I want or what I can afford. Buying extras for resale later can be great for some people (and I'd love extra money in the future) but what good is that extra money if you just keep buying other sets to sell again later? Personally, I'd rather buy extra sets that I had a need for instead of trying to resell it later. Although, the one exception was the B-Wing because of the cut in price. I had/have no intention of ever buying it or building it, but at that price, I bought it and would love to sell it to someone else at market value. But otherwise I am not a reseller.

Methinks the original poster should have clarified what they were looking for in the title also since most people are commenting on actual value as opposed to intrinsic personal value for MOCing. As for MOCing, it all depends on what project I am working on at the time. But pieces I tend to run out of frequently are 1x1 and 1x2 plates in light bley and tan. My main projects currently require(d) a lot of those and I never seem to have enough. I will need to make another bulk order sometime. Thankfully I won't run out of my sand green cheese wedges. I ordered 750 recently...

Our basement is the future placement of a LEGO room. Currently it is finished (from the 70s?) from the previous owners. It thankfully does have some built in shelves that I use to display and store things. But ultimately my daughter and I end up building on the floor. It isn't ideal and will eventually change. It hurts my back to slouch over so often while building, but it does give me a lot of freedom to set parts around me into different piles without the worry of running out of space on a table (or things falling off). No tv or radio down there. Just my kindle that I can watch netflix at times. Eventually it will have a couch and tv center with a separate area for building and displaying throughout the room. We have a few unfortunate things that need money first though..who needs cars or roofs repaired, am I right??

Dress my Exo Suit Mini-challenge - Discussion thread
TheLegoDr replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Interesting idea. My set is still on backorder, so who knows if I will have it in time. Now to consider what theme to build in... -
This is neat. I like the overall shape. Can it be achieved with just LEGO? Considering this is a LEGO only website and all. But I also ask because I wouldn't mind building my own large scale Transformer-esque person, but I would only use LEGO brand bricks.

Very inspiring. I really need to learn how to build brick built creatures. And I love the foliage and the figure placement. Very eye catching. I can't wait to see more.

Everyone has their own tastes. I, for one, love the tan and sand blue and am quite happy with how mine turned out. I still need to take pictures (I've only been saying that for 4+ months!!!). But I didn't mirror build mine. But I much prefer mine to the sand green. No, there isn't as much bright contrast because of the green, but in the light the blue does stand out way more than light bley. As a licensed eye doctor, maybe you should get your eyes checked .

That is amazing. Great detail. Great color choices. I hadn't ever considered doing something like this and I'm glad to see it in the brick. Very inspiring. Keep up the great work.

I actually liked Council of Elrond though. I even bought extra Arwens...odd I know. That was a nice little display piece actually. I think the sets overall have been worthwhile in wave 2 of LOTR, but the figures could have been better with better variety. Hobbit has been hit and miss with me. The sets haven't screamed build me, but the figures have nice prints and whatnot...We all know it's about the minifigures anymore, so why not give us a better variety? If it wasn't, then they wouldn't include exclusive figures with tablecloth x and kleenex a... (poor examples, but it seems everything has an exclusive figure these days).
