I thought the first one was going to relate AFOLs to drug addicts needing their next fix. Because buying LEGO sure feels like an addiction at times. But in reality, they would have needed a few LEGO bricks in the background probably. Maybe a LEGO made gun or something to make it "official."

where did we see official prices? I thought those two sets were listed as the same MSRP.
-
I think a black neckline would help that cowl a lot.

You can always just give your collection to me.... (I can't believe I didn't read that yet). As far as how you are feeling, I am actually in that same line of thinking right now. I love LEGO, I loved LEGO. I'm not sure where I am with it now. My daughter definitely loves it, so I play with her a bit and let her play with stuff I've collected, but I don't find the time for myself to MOC or sort or anything really. It definitely makes you lose motivation when you don't have consistent time or money for projects. As much as I want to continue with the hobby (it's my only hobby, mind you) I don't know how to do so while feeling passionate about it. As far as buying sets for minifigures instead of ebay/bricklink/etc, I understand completely. You end up buying the figures you want for about the same price as the set. Why not just buy the set and get the bricks for "free" that way. That is my line of thinking. But some minifigures are expensive and I don't "NEED" any of them really. There are a lot of wants, but no needs. So it makes it harder to justify. I think I will agree with most people here. Stop buying (even though you will miss out on some great figures) and see how you feel about it after a few weeks or months. Don't sell anything you may regret later. I still have my childhood LEGO and I couldn't imagine ever getting rid of it, even if only for nostalgia purposes.

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?
TheLegoDr replied to KingPixels's topic in Community
Those do look good. I can't wait to pick up the ZEA Batman. I have an extra Magneto figure so I can use his purple cape if I need to make a switch. I will just have to wait for ebay probably. I don't want to register on some of those other sites. -

TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
People do realize that the Palace Cinema looks different because it is essentially based on Grauman's Chinese Theater in California. That opened in 1927, so it fits the era of the other builds (considering Town Hall had a 1800s date and the Fire Brigade had a 1930s date). So it fits perfectly well compared to what people complain about. I didn't like it at first, but it has grown on me. The detective agency could very well be 1940s, which isn't too far off from the theme as a whole. I'd assume it won't be too modernized, but I could be wrong. But even with that said, a modern building may not look great with the others, but it may be a perfect stand alone set (which these are supposed to be anyway). -
Smaug is huge. Very impressive. I am very hesitant to let my daughter play with him. She has played with the Dinos from the most recent series and all of the joints are stripped basically (and that is just from movement) so it doesn't stay together well. I'd be a bit sore if that happened to Smaug also. But it does look neat as it is. Are there any cool unique pieces in sand green? The build looks okay, but I'll probably just part it out and keep the figures.

^ good luck with your sorting. I've kept a lot of like colored and you're of bricks clicked together for easy storage only to find them later with cracks in all of them ( from being connected for too long is my assumption)
-
I think sorting is essentially a waste of time. Yes, it needs to be done, but ultimately it will get cluttered again once you start to MOC (at least in my experience). So I have a broad sort, and don't get too upset when it isn't sorted since I don't have time to sort or build. But as a hobby, I'd expect me to plan and organize pieces more so than actually building. That and collecting minifigures takes up a lot of the money. It's funny looking at the OP Andy D's signature line and seeing how it evolved every year.

I think it is one of the few beneficial toys that can help with many things other than just play. I definitely get stressed from work, so to sit down and build would be relaxing. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of free time in the evenings to build, so I don't get to partake in relaxing too often. But if/when I do get the chance, it helps. Keeps the mind focused, makes me not think about other negative things. But then I tend to get hooked and can't think about anything other than LEGO, so that is problematic.

Looks good. I haven't seen that movie in forever. I never would have thought I'd see it in LEGO. This seems fitting. I like the scale and piece usage. I've never tried my hand at this scale, but I have been wanting to. Keep up the good work.

What are your Lego Star Wars collecting habits?
TheLegoDr replied to Something_Awesome's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I basically only collect minifigures that I think will be useful or main characters that would be iconic enough. I haven't seen the movies in years, so I don't have a physical attachment to the series like everyone else. But I have purchased a few ships and figures over the last few years. Been slowing down as of late since I have other themes I'm more interested in. But this summer wave had some good looking sets, so I may pick some of them up. -
I actually like these sets decently enough. I am hesitant at the price points, but I'll wait to see the final product. I am excited for new bluecoats. And it does look like a good army building wave, if purchase all of them. But to buy multiples of some of the sets might be cost-prohibitive. A female bluecoat is interesting. Have to make the feminists happy I guess. (I am 100% for women having equal rights, but it seems odd to have them as an officer at this time period is all).

I really like the ice floating on top of the water. That is very fitting for the town. The buildings definitely look realistic vs the actual set in terms of how they look in the movie. But I like the smoother finish on the official set. But I'm weird like that. But I like what you did here. Very worthy addition to Save LOTR.

Very neat rendition. I think it would fit into your city quite well. I like the new look for what it is. It may be limited, but you have accomplished it nicely. The window ac unit is neat. The building as a whole reminds me of a colonial style building. I just watched Hocus Pocus last night, so maybe that is why my mind is leaning that way.

^^ No way would a licensor ever put bad press towards another company for the small chance they may work with them in the future. You cut all ties like that and you may end up hurting yourself in the long run. But honestly, I don't see CMF being a big seller. You put the main heroes in and people get their fill. No one wants extras (as you can see everyone complaining about extras in the sets). You already have the figures in the sets, so why have a secondary CMF series? It'd be at a loss for them.

And isn't there a risk of having your account flagged or something by purchasing these items? I thought I heard somewhere you wouldn't be able to order anything yourself instead of the scammer getting blacklisted. It doesn't pay to be honest, that's for sure. But I'll still choose that over thievery.

I just noticed. The black ice cream cone. Finally another useful color!

Elsa's is the only set I care about for that theme. My daughter will flip for sure. Although if she had her way, she'd have all of them and then probably never play with them after a few weeks. But I could see her playing with Frozen for longer. Olaf isn't ideal; however, the carrot stalks in black will be useful. I don't love the color scheme either with the purple, but I'm sure they needed another color to mix it up. Too much white and trans blue wouldn't be good either.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I saw it was asked about a mini Jack Sparrow. That would be the one. The voodoo doll. -
2015 is THE year for DC. Looking at those pre-lims I can see some good potential. We'll see how the final products look though. This is a great theme for figures, not builds, but the builds look okay this time around. I've been disappointed in the past.

^Thanks for the info. I have yet to see the Batwing there. I've seen lots of the arctic set though. I guess I'll keep an eye out. I only saw one section for LEGO bags at my store. As far as how well sets are selling, I think it is more than just always being sold out. I always question maybe they don't have any in stock due to shelf space. My local Target doesn't even have tags for the Guardians sets. So they aren't sold out, because they aren't for sale there! I've seen the 20$ one before, but the last few times I've been there I haven't even seen an area on the shelf where they could be. They are full of the January super hero lines still.

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?
TheLegoDr replied to KingPixels's topic in Community
I took the plunge recently and ordered a few different sets of the Iron Man line-ups. I dont know which company did what though. One set was the more recent Iron Man set with the Mark I. And then there was another line-up that had little builds (display type stands). I noticed the second set seem to be of lesser quality than the first. But I was surprised at how good the other set was (the new one with Mark I). Still not LEGO quality as far as I can tell, but definitely getting there. But it didn't fool my daughter. She chose the official Iron Man figure to play with over the knock-offs. She's 5.
