That is really clever! Smart usage of the flextubes. They do seem to work quite well for this. I never know what to use them for, so they just sit in a pile. Someone in my LUG always orders tons, but I never ask him what they are for. I should do that sometime.

Good job! I had no idea what this was, until I googled it and compared. It is a good rendition, especially at that scale. It might be fun to do a before/after the war look. You did the ruin justice. It looks like it would have been a neat building in its prime.

Good luck. Have fun. That's the important part. There are always haters out there, but look for the fun and beauty in the series and you'll never be disappointed. (I'm mainly talking about Palace Cinema since it seems to not be a fan favorite). I liked it. I thought it was clever. I don't love how the Marquee hangs since it isn't attached very well. And stickers are never fun. But the rest is pretty decent.

21306: The Beatles Yellow Submarine (LEGO Ideas)
TheLegoDr replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in LEGO Licensed
I've never seen that show. I've never been into the Beatles, but hearing of a LEGO Beatles set, I was intrigued. Seeing that..I am much more likely to pass. Not enough interest I guess. I'm sure it will still sell well. And I'll wait to see the rest before I completely write it off. Thanks for sharing! -
Where do you get you hair and torsos pieces from?
TheLegoDr replied to der-vogel's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It looks like you exhausted all of the places I am aware of. You can try Bricks and Pieces, but I don't know how much shipping is to your location. And they don't have EVERY hair piece, but a larger variety, if you know the ID number or set numbers they are in. -
This is exciting news. I guess I will wait to pick up BvS version of Wonder Woman and see how different it is to these new sets since we will be getting her a few times. No reason to pay twice. I'm glad they re-use figures at times.

Exactly. I've encountered this a lot too. Just random cracking along the sides where they connect to the hips and occasionally where the hands connect to the arm. The main problem is there is nothing connecting all of the cracks outside of shoddier materials. I've had plenty of feet cracks, but they are attached to a stud to display them (similar to CMF, which is funny considering they were designed specifically for minifigures to stand on...). With the amount of money LEGO is making and opening up new markets, I'm sure they will maintain the cheap route to make higher profits and if a few of us complain, it won't hurt their bottom line. Until they stop seeing profits (which is highly unlikely) I don't see them fixing this problem.

Did you do the explode feature on LDD? I want to wreck it!! Fun stuff. Looks fitting for a playset. I vaguely remember the movie. I'd rather have something in the Space Marine fashion maybe. OR Candy Sugar Rush or whatever that was... Either way, keep up the good work. Looks like it could fit in with some modulars, just a little too tall.

I've never played Metroid before, but this has incredible shaping. I love the color scheme. Everything just "fits." I will definitely look back on this for inspiration.

A lot of clever builds here! That is a cute scooter. But, only red?? Throw in an aqua one in there :). The details in the back are great. The oil can leaking is smart. I like the hanging lights. The toolchest and the tools in the back are a great addition. I may have to "borrow" some of these ideas if I ever get around to building a garage.

Outside of a few still in the box, my sets are either on display or broken down into my collection. I have a few in ziploc bags for a future build...but they have been that way a long time and I honestly don't think I'll ever rebuild them, so if I take them apart, I likely will move on to something else. Once you take a few apart, you realize if you truly miss it (and thus should rebuild it and display it) or if you really care at all and and peacefully let it rest. I have a hard time letting go of things, so when I take something apart, I don't take it lightly. I'm goofy like that. With that said, if you have storage space, break them down and hide them away until you get the urge to build again. If you even are out of storage space, then selling is a good idea. Craigslist might help or ebay of course (just watch out for the fees!).

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
But rumored price increase of CMFs?? Say it isn't so! I love Batman. I don't really care about most other Super Hero sets, but it sounds like this next year will be too expensive to get everything I want Batman related. I guess I'll have to accept I won't have a complete collection anymore. -
I agree with the first comment. It's the journey that makes it worthwhile. Sure, you can buy a complete set AND if you get it for a reasonable price, I highly recommend. But if you are seeking out the pieces, then it can be fun to take on the challenge. I've sort of done this with a few sets before, but by the time I decide I want a certain set, I have already modified it in my head and go a different route. I look into complaints or accuracy of sets and see if I can improve on it while I am building it. If I bought it straight from the box, I might not be as motivated to modify it, but since I have to collect a lot of the pieces anyway, it can be quite fun to modify it AND collect the pieces and in the end, have something that you "designed." Either way, congrats on finally having your set. I am guessing bricklink/people's opinions/prices/etc., may have changed since your first encounter with asking that question.

Lego Marvel`s Avengers - Helicarrier Streetsweeper
TheLegoDr replied to badchriss's topic in LEGO Licensed
Neat. I haven't played that game yet, although I doubt I ever will. No time.. But the build looks fun and would work well with any city. Too bad the wheels don't come in blue like in the game. -
Overall, pretty decent. The color scheme works well together. I'd like to see less tan personally. Maybe the bottom floor a dark or light bley? I would recommend external lighting somewhere (and not just street lamps). And I don't particularly like the number of lion heads. Although I do think this building benefits from having at least 1 lion head. I like the central one on top. I'm not sure on having lions, frogs, and an owl as decoration. But I'm not an architecture afficionado, so this may be very realistic. Keep up the good work.

LEGO Elves 2017 Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Since my daughter loves Elves and really loves the Rainbow Magic series books (which involves various fairies AND goblins) she will flip knowing there will be goblins coming out with the Elves sets. Unfortunately, it will make us go broke trying to keep up with sets she wants AND sets I want... But the prices look decent for Italian prices anyway. I don't know how that translates to USD. -
Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
^Pure logic. When a set gets released prior to the movie release, the sets likely won't sell as well. So once the movie premieres, they will be more sought after. (That is, if the movie it self is worthwhile). I bought the set anyway for new figures, but I have no desire to see the movie. (same with Ant-Man.) So I agree, don't wait too long. -
My daughter will definitely want more Frozen... but another ice palace? Hopefully it will look better than the first Elsa's castle.
-
^That is my understanding, although I don't know how long it takes to become yellowed. I've had success with peroxide in the sun. It doesn't take away any scratches, but does make it whiter in appearance for sure.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
^Harsh. I've seen quite a few decent looking conversions. I will have to post the few I've done sometime. It is actually quite fun keeping the same idea of the official set, but making it into a modular. And you shouldn't have to buy 4x of one set to do it. There really are only a handful of pieces that you would require beyond what the set offers, mainly extra bricks to flesh it out. -
Looking at currently available sets used complete ~$450 to sealed complete $499. Part out value for currently listed new prices $742.54 (including instructions/box ~$120). I'd suggest buying a copy unless you had a lot of the pieces already.

[MOC] Batman Versus Green Hornet (1966 TV Series)
TheLegoDr replied to Vincent Q's topic in LEGO Licensed
It is a lighter shade of green, but the Riddler has a green bowler hat that would work well. Just brasso off the question mark. -
Intense and impressive. I also worry with public shows about my creations. So leaving them overnight somewhere would be too stressful. But it will be fun for fans to look at for sure.
