jaysapathy - they had mermaid tails in the build a minifigure?? that's awesome. I always try to grab the unique pieces out of there, but rarely do they have any. Maybe it was more for the opening? As far as filling a cup, it seems everytime I've taken my time to do it, everyone! (even employees) look at me funny and in amazement. You'd think the employees would be used to it, but they look at me like I'm crazy. Although I don't know how much more you're actually getting by lining everything up exactly to fill it as much as you can. Have there been any examples shown? I know it would depend on types of pieces, but if you are doing smaller pieces or 1x2 bricks/plates, would there be a discernible difference? Redhead1982 - very impressive. I'd love to be able to pick up some cheese slopes and leaf pieces!! I'd probably buy a few cups worth of each.

As impressed as I am with Orthanc, I haven't really done much with it other than sitting on the floor. My daughter has played with it a bit, but it mostly just collects dust. It is a well designed model though. If I wasn't a hardcore LEGO LOTR fan and wasn't into collecting the exclusives that LEGO puts out, I might have passed altogether. And on the side, I'm sure most people haven't heard of a use tax. I know I haven't. Although I think I heard somewhere they are passing a new law that will require it to be enforced (or maybe all states will start collecting sales tax even if there isn't a store presence in your state?? I'm not sure entirely, but I would've assumed ordering from Amazon and getting no tax would be the smart way to go until that law is passed.

Very well done. I love the official set, but it was a bit oversized. This seems to bring the official set down in size, but up in quality. I'd buy this in a heartbeart. The addition to the cargo net is creative. The 4 horses look very fitting here. I actually really like the studs underneath the horses. It adds a lot to it. Keep up the great work. I may need to modify mine sometime now that I've seen this.

[MOC] A normal day in the middle-ages
TheLegoDr replied to r_history_lego0's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Very well done. I like the whole atmosphere the build gives. I don't know much about farming, but I would expect this to be pretty lifelike for the time period. The base is well done and adds a lot to a MOC, even though I've never built a base for any of my MOCs. Did you just lay out rows of 2x bricks and then plate over the top? The house is really well done too. I like the detailing created by the studs exposed. Keep up the good work. -
MOC Architecture : The Cathedral of Strasbourg
TheLegoDr replied to DanSto's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This is amazing. You captured the source material very well, especially considering the size. I really like the use of spears also. Adds a nice detail. The roofing looks excellent. The ground floor windows with the headlight element is smart thinking. I don't love the colors combined, but I realize that is the official coloring so you nailed it there. Keep up the great work. I'd love to see more architecture sets from you. You capture the small scale quite well. -
MOC - Korean Famous Buildings in mini modular scale
TheLegoDr replied to daystar's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Brilliant to say the least. I am impressed. I love the mini-Sungnyemoon. That is very life-like, especially at that scale. I think I like that more than the official architecture set. The Seoul station is brilliantly designed. I love the scale. It would fit right into a larger layout. You were able to fit a lot of details in to such a small build. That makes it even more impressive. Keep up the great work! I'd love to see more. I know very little of Korea.- 9 replies

I find that even stranger that other areas of North America will get them, but not the US. Road trip to Canada anyone?? I'd love to get the last series. I actually preferred these little ships over the large scale versions. They did a great job designing them. Now I'll have to look up the piece list and build it myself. I really wanted that B-wing pilot to go with the UCS ship though. I understand if something doesn't sell well to quit making it, but why not release this last series and then make no more. These were already advertised. At least let us get a hold of them. I have two of that lieutenant which I'd love to sell off. I have no use for it. I'd trade those for series 4 any day.

That would be lucky. I haven't seen any licensed pieces in one before. But nevertheless, I always hit up the BAM section to see what they have. Normally I buy lots of heads and hats to add up to the 15. I once saw capes there and put those in there and the cashier said to add more because she doesn't count those as an accessory, so I was pleased!

I didn't care for Watchmen, but this is instantly recognizable. Very fitting. I love the scale and details you incorporate. I have no idea how to work in this scale, but I'd love to try it and make a few iconic characters for my display shelves. Any tips? Thanks for sharing!

I think that is probably because the Kre-O sets don't actually transform either. LEGO probably attempted to do it legit and couldn't make it work for the right price, so they dropped it. I'd love to see Transformers LEGO, but I'd prefer if they actually transformed, so I'd be hesitant to buy any. I thought about copying the Kre-O sets but in LEGO form because they actually look decent, just not LEGO.

LOTR Orcs, Goblins & Trolls vs 2008 Orcs and Trolls
TheLegoDr replied to SheepEater's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I missed out on the Fantasy Era, so LOTR is a win for me. However, I do like some of those troll prints and the shield print. I do think they look like they could be a misunderstood baddie trying to be good, or a all-out baddie. Yet, the LOTR are full fledged baddies. I choose LOTR, but if I had been into LEGO when Fantasy Era came out, I might have a harder time choosing. -
[Request] Pics of King's Castle 7946 and 70404 side by side
TheLegoDr replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks for those pictures. That really shows how each castle compares to one another. I think aesthetically I prefer the Kingdoms one, but I like that line more overall anyway. I don't care much for the blue for some reason, but I do like some of the other design details with the new castle. I'm thinking a hybrid would be good. -
Simpsons Collectable Minifigures aka Series 13 (non-official term)
TheLegoDr replied to kasmca's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I love(d) the Simpsons so this is really neat that LEGO is doing it. I am primarily a minifigure collector so this is appealing, yet at the same time I don't know how badly I want to collect them all. It really depends on how they look. I'm sure LEGO won't disappoint with new molds, but still it is all open for me at the moment. I'm kind of over the whole have to complete every thing anymore. With that said, I am excited for the LEGO movie and game series. Those should bring lots of what I want. -
Good for you. I'm surprised there were any left anywhere. As far as I know, S@H sold out that first day and I know my local store (>3 hour drive) sold out the first day also.

VIP email today for Winter Village Market presale
TheLegoDr replied to Herky's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I believe the VW van is done at the end of September and the Clone lieutenant is from September through Oct 31. I don't know if they have a separate polybag give-away also or not. I think they will assume (as would I) that double points will bring enough people to buy that month. The free give-aways are there to entice people to buy other months that aren't as shop heavy. -
Brilliant work. Very impressive scale and detail. I love the landscape at the bottom. That really stands out, but so does all of the detailing and angles used against each other. I've considered doing a Rapunzel-style tower from Tangled for my daughter and I could imagine I could take some good cues from this. Keep up the great work! I'll never understand why people like to "destroy" their builds, but to each their own.

News LEGO CREATOR 2014 News & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Those sound promising. I'm only partly interested in Creator sets, but I can understand the appeal from other people. I will more than likely pick up a few of these though. Can't wait for pictures! -
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
More TMNT is great! Although, I don't know what the sets would be linked to. I don't know much about the new TMNT stuff. I haven't paid attention to it all. But it'd be great to see more figures. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I thought about adding extra space to the GE but in the side and by not keeping it a second corner. Just add extra length on the side. That is quite the project to ad to all of them. If love to do it if I had unlimited money. -
Thanks for sharing! I really like the outcome. The colors work really well together and aren't overwhelming at all. I love the interior decor. I really need to get to work on mine. The kitchen and tv look great. The stairs look really nice, but they seem too steep for my taste. Keep up the great work!
-
Liam32 - Go for it! I don't have mine built, but the pictures I've seen look great. As far as parts go, it seems to have a nice collection for modular building. The part price ratio is awesome for 4000 pieces.

Very nice redesign. I like the interior very much. The tables look great. The bookshelves work really well. For some reason I don't like the exterior with all the gray. I understand the purpose of the stone work, but it feels too crowded to me for some reason. I like the gray around the Windows and the overall shape of the building is good. There is something about the 1x1 and 1x2 tiles that busies it up to me. Otherwise keep up the good work.

18 Lego Marvel Variants And The Originals They Are Parodying
TheLegoDr replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Licensed
That same comic shop called me recently and said they got a few in stock earlier and at a lower price than they originally quoted me. Very odd. One is also the Doc Ock unmasking Peter Parker and one is the Wolverine in the brown suit grinning. He said they were both 1 of 25. Is that 25 different covers, or numbered to 25. I assume 25 total covers, even though the website at the top showed 18 covers. I heard mention of sketch variants, so maybe only 7 of those? Is the interior also of LEGO comic, or just the cover? I haven't purchased them yet, because I don't know if I want to get it only for the cover or not. Any information helps! Thanks! -
Thanks for sharing. I missed out on that Town Plan set, but I did like that cinema in it. I like the changes you made. It appears more like a downtown theater in line with the current modulars. I understand why they made the Palace Cinema as it is, but I like this version too. If I ever make my own, I will probably take more design cues from you over the current modular. I like the size of the interior height wise. Yes, a modular will be crowded, but I think you did a good job with the space you have. I really like the roofline and front facade without having too many big windows to eat away at the actual viewing room. I think if I make one, I will incorporate a similar roofline, but I will probably make mine deeper front to back. I never look at the back of my modulars, so I don't really need to keep it within the same constraints, although it would be more impressive by doing so.
-
Once again, color me impressed. The exterior appears very simple, yet it works on so many levels. I love the window facade on the main level and the little bit of black jumping out compared to the rest of the building. The interior of course speaks volumes. I like how you incorporate a setting into your builds instead of a blank, empty building. I'm (not) surprised regarding your front entrance with the side windows. I actually thought about doing that with another modular I was building. Good minds think alike it seems.. The interior decoration works really well. But I think my favorite part is the fountain in the back. That looks really well done and I can actually picture similar looking fountains in the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri. I already have a corner modular built with a fountain, but haven't taken pictures yet. But I like your fountain too. Keep up the great work.
