Well several years ago, while building a house on a slight hill, in the middle of a plowed corn field, we had a similar crane to set beams. Unfortunately it didn't have enough reach to set a particularly heavy beam at the back of the house, from where the crane was parked on the gravel road driveway. So we had the crane hook up to the beam and with the boom all the way in and lowered the operater drove through the plowed field with the beam to the back of the house and reset the crane in the field on uneven plowed ground and we set the beam no problem. Now granted it was only a slight rise but there is no way another road crane could have navigate that terrain, would have got hung up immediately. Hell my pickup truck couldn't have even drove through that field, wasn't 4x4. Anyway crane had no problem at all, it was pretty cool to watch and I was surprised the operater even agreed to try it, I guess at $150 an hour he figured it was worth it. So even if it isn't done often it is doable, no other type of crane could have done that. He was definitely off-road.

Ah well just a thought, incredible performance none the less. I have been following this for a while and think it's turned out great.

I actually really like this set and I will definitely be getting it, this will be my year for trains as I have none as of now. I really can't believe everyone is fine with no track pieces for it to sit on though, I would have gladly paid a few dollars more for a couple of track sections and feel the set would look more complete with them.

Have you tried it in reverse? We used to do this to make it up some very steep grades while four wheelin in the AZ mountains.

Glad LEGO heard me out and lowered the price to a more respectable $99.99. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure if this thing is skid steering, because if so that would mean there are multiple motors in the RC unit, right?

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!
Johnny1360 replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That Hauler thing seems to have a lot of Technic pieces in it, not a bad thing to me anyway. Are those white steering wheels, large, on the sides also seems to be 5x7 Technic frames, brown, underneath. Have we seen those before? -

I guess I missed that info somewhere, what is the price and part count? -
So I assume that thing has skid steering, judging by how close together the wheels are? I did expect it to be a bit pricey, this just seems to be flat out ridiculous though and the excellent minifig just doesn't make up for it to me. Makes the Tracked Racer look like an exceptional bargain. I sure hope this isn't a prelude to PF-2 pricing.

Where to get RC parts?
Johnny1360 replied to Mantarri's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm trying real hard on holding off for PF-2 until I get anymore stuff, not easy for me to do either since my RC part selection is quite sparse. -
42083 - Bugatti Chiron

It's teasing the hell out of me. Really looking forward to this one, more so than the Porsche, for some reason. -

So yet another teaser, oh well I guess hype sells. I don't really care for the way that engine looks, not sure how it could be done differently though. -
And yet even Condiment King gets dual molded legs, go figure.

General Part Discussion
Johnny1360 replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Maybe so but that is an actual brick, not so much with a thin walled bush designed to flex, which are the parts I am more concerned with. I know some people say put your bricks in the oven to increase their clutch power. I imagine there isn't much difference between an oven and a shipping container rolling through the Arizona desert. I also imagine LEGO doesn't respond well to sitting on the tarmac waiting for a truck at O'Hara in January.- 5,507 replies

As well you should be, LEGO is not about to release a crane with much actual lifting capacity, due to the possibility of strangling little Johnny. It will be up to your mad modding capabilities to make it actually lift much at all.

So they had this built for display at the LEGO store today and I got to put my grubby little paws all over it, what fun. Couple of things I noticed, it is quite fragile, don't plan on moving it much, best to build it where it will be displayed. The coaster part works well the trains roll very smoothly and it goes through the whole circuit quickly. The track switching mechanism can be a bit tricky to properly position, for switching trains. You would think it would click in a little better. The crank for the lift has quite a bit of resistance and isn't very smooth, I feel this will put quite the load on the motor and go through batteries quickly. The chain is very long probably a couple hundred links or more and does have some sort of rubber band tension mechanism that might be causing the lack of smoothness. All in all the set works flawlessly, looks great and is very large, sure wish I had room for it, would be an instant buy. Also there is absolutely no possibility of it ever having a loop, it just doesn't go fast enough and would have to be much taller, even though the operation is very smooth.

General Part Discussion
Johnny1360 replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
All these cracking of parts worries me greatly. Makes me not want to assemble any of my sets, Ha not really. I personally have no cracked or broken parts yet, not looking forward to it happening either. I have only been out of my dark age for 2 years now though, which would explain that, my oldest sets are from 2015, Fire Plane and Crawler Crane. I do have a large number of sets now though. So have the more modern parts been updated to be less prone to breakage? Is there anything to do to preserve these pieces other than just being more careful with the most fragile of pieces, not using them is not an option? Should I stock up on certain pieces to prepare for the inevitable catastrophe? Honestly not to worried about it, it's just that some people seem to have their whole collection disintegrating by just looking at them. Seems kind of odd to me, there has to be a cause, which I would rather avoid if possible.- 5,507 replies

Marvel Superheroes 2018 - Set Discussion
Johnny1360 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Strange, I feel like that with almost every set I build, usually a pleasant surprise. Pictures just don't seem to do most sets any justice, and on the rare occasion I read a review on a set before purchase, I am put off by hyper critical opinions about arm printing or lack of dual molded legs. When is this set going to be available for us mere mortals?- 3,962 replies

Possible to rigidly stack 2x2 bricks with 45 degree offset?
Johnny1360 replied to fred67's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Ah-Ha, thank you for that, now I finally know why they have those notches, always wondered. Sorry for off topic post. -
What exactly is this for? I see a lot of these popping up lately with little or no information about what the goal is, making it seem like some kind of scam. Then the original poster fails to respond to any sort of queries, seems to confirm the suspicious nature of such a poll.

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!

I can think of only one good reason for someone needing to buy multiple copies of a newly released UCS set, so I am all for only being able to buy 1, when they are first released. -
Don't have any answers for you but I am of the opinion that early VIP releases are quite pointless because you can become a VIP instantly and purchase said exclusive on the spot, just a marketing gimmick so they can track your buying habits, albeit better than most.
