LEGO Ideas Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well I'm liking it at the minute as my project is showing up close to the top of the homepage. Another weird thing I've noticed is that the number of people following me seems to have dropped down slightly. When I do a search for the missing people it seems as if they've disappeared from Lego Ideas completely and are no longer on it. And another thing... it seems as if you can't check how many page views each project has had anymore. -
This looks fantastic. Love the colour scheme and the similarity to the real loco in your photograph is very accurate indeed. I also really like the small engine 345 in the fourth pic as well.
-
This is a stunning, great looking design. The details, colours and proportions are all spot on as far as I'm concerned. All of your trains are so good that at first glance it's not always obvious that they're made from lego.

I can just imagine how great a potential Pirate ship would be if it was done with the same sort features as Destiny's Bounty. Personally I would love to see new Pirate sets that carried on in the style of the vintage sets from the 90's. That's just me wanting Pirates back for nostalgic reasons though. I definitely think that if Pirates stand any chance of coming back as a serious, long term theme then they will most likely need to introduce some fantasy elements and storylines. This is what kids seem to want nowadays. If they don't then we'd probably just end up with another small wave of slightly "junior-ised" Pirate sets that only stick around for about a year. I always assumed that Redbeard and Ironhook were on the same side - that's how I always used to play with my Pirate sets anyway.

Lego Ideas is now back up and running. It has been completely overhauled and re-designed. I think I prefer the new style actually. -
[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well since I posted this MOC yesterday I noticed my Lego Ideas support count shot up quite a bit. A huge thanks to everyone who is supporting me, I really appreciate it. Thank you for your comment @jamesn The front wheel axle can't be steered from the cab unfortunately. Don't think I would have been able to build a steering mechanism very easily at this scale and it would have eaten in to the space around the cab too much. Good idea though. Thanks @carebear Glad you like it. Thanks for the lovely comment @Pandora I wanted to present this without sounding like I was dwelling on the Lego Ideas stuff too much (apart from the end paragraph ). Thanks for the kind comments as always @LegoModularFan and thanks for your support over on Ideas. Thanks a lot @Digger of Bricks. Regarding the colour scheme, I chose green with red wheels as I always think of this as one of the main stereotype colours of traction engines, certainly in the UK anyway. Here are a couple of examples. Thanks so much @Pdaitabird Yes I reckon it would appeal to Lego train fans. I can imagine it sat next to the track on a Lego steam train layout. That's brilliant, thanks very much for doing that @sunhuntin I certainly need all the help I can get promoting this. Please let me know what sort of feedback, if any, it receives on your facebook page. Thanks a lot @paupadros. I'm pleased you like it. I designed the model in LDD but then imported the finished thing in to Mecabricks so that I could use the built in render feature. I think Mecabricks uses Blender to create the images but it is much simpler to use than the native blender software and is also incredibly fast.- 65 replies

I'm guessing it might be Art Nouveau inspired? I love the ground details all around the base of this one. The foliage, rocks etc and trees have been very nicely done.

Creator Expert Cars - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation

More teasers have been released relating to the James bond lego project. Could it feature an ejector seat? https://www.thebrickfan.com/more-lego-james-bond-aston-martin-teasers/ -
LEGO 60197 CITY ● Passenger Train [Speed Build Review]
Bricked1980 replied to Brick Ministry's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Great review. I must say I do like this set and am much more positive about it now than I was earlier in the year when all we had to go on was the bad quality leaked catalogue shots. The large stickers on the side of the cab definitely help to improve the overall look of the engine. -
Hi everyone You may have seen my MOC modular buildings on here recently, The Queen Bricktoria and Brick Square Post Office. For my new project I've decided to build something completely different. This is also my first ever entry as a Lego Ideas project. "A roaring fire and a full head of steam, the old traction engine is ready for work!" I have created a scene set some time during the early 20th century. Farmers are working in the fields with their steam traction engine, affectionately known as "The Old Workhorse". The model includes a detailed mini fig scale traction engine, a wagon and various other accessories and mini builds. THE TRACTION ENGINE The main feature of the model is the traction engine itself. I've used a classic green and red livery with polished brass lining and details. There are several interesting parts used to create this engine including paint roller handles and mini fig syringes used to create the piping around the boiler and inside the cab. A system of cogs ensures that the flywheel spins around as the traction engine is pushed forward. A detailed cab interior includes steering wheel, controls and a firebox door that can be opened and closed to reveal the burning fire inside. The front wheel axle can be pivoted left and right. THE WAGON I've also included a wagon/trailer that can be coupled to the back of the traction engine and used to carry the various accessories included with the model. The sides of the wagon can be dropped down to provide loading access for the mini figs. There is space at the front of the wagon to hold tools and mini fig accessories. MINIFIGURES & OTHER ACCESSORIES Included with the model are 2 mini figs, a dog, a rat and several mini builds including tree stumps, logs and rocks. These are all designed to be carried and towed in the wagon. THE FINISHED MODEL The overall model contains 480 pieces. Here is a shot of The Old Workhorse, steaming past the buildings in my MOC modular street. LEGO IDEAS As mentioned earlier this is my first entry as a Lego Ideas project. If you like what you see then I really would be so grateful if you could please support my project on Lego Ideas, and help The Old Workhorse to gather steam. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2a2ec583-9836-4868-8dc7-6b3bb0a2fe80 Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and I hope you like the model. Feel free to let me know what you think. If you'd like to see more pictures, there are many more on my Flickr page. Edit: I've added a new brick built version of the model on page 2 of this topic.

I've seen this on Lego Ideas too and given it my support. It looks great. The trees and sloped roof are very striking. Good luck with your project.

That's good to hear. This sounds intriguing. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Help with Digital Renders
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well I have spent the last couple of weeks playing around and getting to grips with the Mecabricks built in rendering feature. I have to say I'm really impressed. Once I got to grips with how it works I was able to churn out around 40 images of my latest moc and lego ideas project. I'm really pleased with how well the images came out and in my opinion Mecabricks provides the most realistic results of any other rendering system I've tried and it is also super fast. If anyone is interested you can see the images I created here. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2a2ec583-9836-4868-8dc7-6b3bb0a2fe80- 26 replies

Thanks @Digger of Bricks and @Pandora for the advice. Was thinking I may add it to the town forum as that one always seems to be the most active to me. Maybe it is more suited to the special themes forum though. Anyway I'll get it posted up on Monday so look out for it then. Does that mean we won't be seeing the daily selection of mocs from you anymore? or is that just for the time being whilst you've been busy? Do you plan to return to the daily member picks when things have quietened down a bit? I hope so.

Creator Expert Cars - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation
Bricked1980 replied to SheldonF's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm wondering if that silhouette image is just a generic Aston Martin image they've used and not a literal silhouette of the new set. Obviously it's impossible to tell but the shaping of that graphic they've used doesn't even look to me as if it's the outline of something made from lego. So I think there is still hopefully a good chance that the new set will end up being a DB5. -
That's the one. It only went live on Ideas a few hours ago. I'll be adding a full write up to Eurobricks soon, might have to wait until after the weekend now though. Only problem is, I'm not sure which forum to post it in. It would be relevant in town, historical and special themes.

Creator Expert Cars - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation
Bricked1980 replied to SheldonF's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Awesome, and this confirms it definitely will be released as a creator expert set. -
Thanks very much. I wanted to create a kind of 'inverted corner' with this model and setting one building further back from the other was my attempt to emphasise the appearance of them being 2 separate buildings. The whole idea is heavily influenced by assembly square so I'm pleased you think it resembles that in some way.

Adding a Banner Image to Profile Page
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Forum Information and Help
Just noticed that since last weeks server upgrades, the grey box at the top of the profile pages has been replaced with a generic patterned background. Also if you click the box, it collapses the rest of the page and opens up a larger view of the patterned background. This has only been the case since last weeks upgrade. This would seem to suggest that the banner box is intended to hold a picture or photograph. Does anyone know if this is now possible? I've been trying to find the option to add a photo on my own profile page but can't find the option to do it.- 16 replies

Hadn't spotted until you mentioned it but I think I see what you mean. I was fed up with the same minifig image grinning back at me every time I logged in to EB, hence the reason I switched my avatar. I was thinking I might switch it back again though.
-
The new images are really great. I especially like the different roof designs and the way the sloped roof on the middle building kind of sweeps around. That's one of my favourite features of the whole model and these new pictures (especially the last one) show it perfectly.
-
It looks stunning. Just been checking out the other pics on your flickr page. I love all the texture and details on the facade and the pink and blue colours really "pop" against the white and grey of the main walls. I also really like the tree in the corner and the interior details are fantastic. Great work!

Here is a link to a eurobricks topic explaining how to embed pictures from flickr. Look forward to seeing the pics of your modulars.

Creator Expert Cars - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation
Bricked1980 replied to SheldonF's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I had considered this as well. I think it will depend on how much they decide to push the James Bond influence in the set. If it ends up being a fully licensed James Bond model then I can't imagine it would carry the branding for both James Bond and Creator Expert. Can't think of any other movie licenced sets that have been released under Creator expert. On the other hand it might just be a model of an Aston Martin with a few spy accessories thrown in as a subtle nod to James Bond, without actually carrying any 007 branding at all. If this were the case then it would fit perfectly as a Creator Expert set. -
Hi everyone, in my original post I included the picture below showing the Post Office alongside my other 2 modular building MOC's. This picture doesn't really give an indication of how big the model is though, because my Queen Bricktoria is bigger than most of the official modulars and the Convenience store on the right is a lot smaller. So I have created the new image below showing the Post Office positioned between 2 of the official Modulars. As you can see it is more or less the same size as most of the more recent modular releases. High res copies of all the pictures are available on my Flickr page. https://www.flickr.com/photos/140122416@N02/albums
