[Poll] What do you do with new sets?
Bricked1980 replied to mocbuild101's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I always buy sets with the intention of building them straight away but this doesn't always happen and I reckon I've got 8 or 9 sets currently in my cupboard backing up waiting to be built. Once I've built them I keep them displayed for a while and tend to only take them apart when they start to get get dusty or I need to make space for newer sets. After I've taken the sets apart I almost always store them in their original boxes and tend not to blend all the pieces together in a parts bin. -
This is a great looking modular. The bright earthy reds and oranges on the right side building contrast very nicely with the green building to the left. Also not quite sure what the hot air balloon pieces on the roof are supposed to represent but they look really cool anyway.

Woh, that sky scraper is huge. What an awesome looking bunch of buildings. Gotta agree with this. Not sure if I would ever have started designing my own mocs if it wasn't for the daily dose of inspiration from this page. Good work @LegoModularFan

Great! This is exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. One of these would work very well as an official fairground set I reckon. It would give lots of opportunity for ornate detailing and would also lend itself well to have power functions added. There would also be the opportunity to add in lots of little nods to classic pirate sets. Thanks for finding this.

Creator Expert Cars - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation
Bricked1980 replied to SheldonF's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I've been wondering if there are any solid rumors about the next creator expert car as well. As far as I know there haven't been any clues yet but my guess is it won't necessarily be a car. I think they'll do another iconic public transport vehicle like the London bus. Not sure what exactly but maybe a San fransisco tram or something like that. Or maybe even a new creator expert train. We haven't had one of those for a while. -
This looks really good. I really like the front of the book store and the books on display in the windows look very effective. I also like how the shop windows slope inwards towards the front door at an angle. Not sure if I'm missing something obvious but I can't figure out how you've done that. The interior is also very nicely detailed. Really like the babies cot and the tv stand with games console controller. Great work.
-
Looks great. You've done a good job of expanding the size but still maintaining the same look and feel of the original. I like what you've done with the interior and the planted area at the side looks very good and compliments the building nicely. Good job.
-
I found this video of 31077. The quality is pretty poor but it still gives a good idea of how the set looks and some of the interior detail. This set has grown on me actually. Wasn't keen at first but I do quite like it now.

How about carrying on with the pirate theme and doing one of those swinging pirate ship rides. Like this sort of thing. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_ship_(ride)?wprov=sfla1

You know, that's just the sort of thing I could imagine them doing. Space bumper cars would make a really good follow up to the pirate roller coaster. Great idea.

Well that looks a pretty cool design. And I reckon bumper cars could be a definite contender for a future set under the creator fairground line. With this in mind I wouldn't be surprised if this model got turned down in case it clashed with any potential future fairground sets. On the other hand it could be argued that the pirate roller coaster clashes with the Fairground line but they still went ahead and released that.

Photographed these on my travels today. Smyths toys in the UK are now stocking all the new creator sets. They all look awesome on the store shelves and it took all my will power not to go on a huge spending spree. They also had the new city hospital set and the ninjago city docks in stock.
-
I like this. The colours are nice and it's instantly recognisable as a fire station. Nice details you've created on the facade including those lion head bricks between the windows.
-
I agree. There are loads of nostalgic throwbacks to classic pirates in this set which I think are intended as a nod to adult fans. Although this is in a differenj league to the creator expert coaster, in some ways it looks like a more fun and varied build. And at only £69 in the UK this is definitely something I am gonna want to get at some point.
-
The hospital looks awesome in that video posted by @LegoModularFan The interior features are really well thought out. The xray room using the light brick is really cool. There are some terrific city sets coming out this summer. I reckon overall the summer wave is better than the first sets released at the start of the year.
-
Wow. Thanks for sharing this. Didn't expect to see vids of this one yet as didn't think it was coming out till august. The hotel looks great and the bus is amazing.
-
I agree. I've said this before but I'd love to see a rebooted and redesigned version of black seas baracuda, aimed at adult collectors. If they could create something with the size and scale of 10210 and with the amount of detail seen in the ninjago movie ship from last year then I can only imagine how awesome this would be.
-
Well I would at least hope they might acknowledge the 30th anniversary next year in some way. If a new wave of sets is too much to hope for then perhaps a single D2C pirate ship set might be the most likely option.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
On the subject of car related modulars I remember this petrol station being featured in the forum last year, and for a short time some people thought this was actually going to be the 2018 modular. I've never seen a multi floor petrol station before though, definitely not in the UK anyway. So not sure a petrol station in the usual format of the modular buildings would ever work all that well. A car sales/showroom or a garage could definitely work though. -
This is a nice building. The overall look of it reminds me a bit of the old fishing store set. The little truck looks nice with this one too.

There is a great speed build video of 60195 and one of the other arctic sets on the Austrian lego fan's Youtube channel. Does this mean the city arctic sets are already available in some regions?
-
Brickset have updated their pages for the new city trains and added a couple more pics including the the box art from the back of the packaging. Here is the page for the passenger train and the new pic shows a bit of detail from the interior of the carriages. https://brickset.com/sets/60197-1/Passenger-Train Also on the equivalent page for the cargo train is a pic from the back of that box as well.

Great to see all your mocs together. My favourite is the latest klee corner closely followed by sweets and Co and summer in Tuscany. Klee corner is one of the most attractive and original mocs I've seen in ages. I am puzzled as to why it hasn't attracted more comments on EB.
-
My mind is blown. This takes moc building in a different direction and to a whole new level. You could have very easily have chosen to build this as just a normal street layout and it would have still been a beautiful and stunning model to look at. But to come up with and incorporate the whole earthquake scenario is just such a clever idea and you have pulled it off perfectly. Really like how you have picked colours that go together so well and create such realistic earthy looking buildings. It's almost as if you're using lego bricks as an art medium and blending colours together as if they were paint. It's brilliant.
