Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I agree with you that it's likely Mike will be lead designer again. I also have a hunch that the next set could be a hotel. I'd also love to see a Post Office or Police Station too. I don't think anyone guessed that the last set was going to be a Diner though, so chances are they will surprise us all once again. -
Creator Expert Cars - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation
Bricked1980 replied to SheldonF's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Not really sure what to make of this to be honest. The curvy nature of a DB5 was never going to be easy to replicate in Lego so maybe they did as good a job of it as is possible, but I am a bit disappointed with how this set has turned out. In my opinion the 007 gadgets and features overpower the set a bit and the end result is a rather clunky shaped car in a dull colour scheme. I think Lego have used the James Bond brand as an excuse to slap an expensive price tag on it as well. Part of me wishes they'd done the model without any James Bond branding at all. Sure it wouldn't have the fun gadgets and features but we might have ended up with a more affordable model and the designers would have had the option of using different colour schemes too. -
This is an incredible Lego built piece of art. The level of detail in this model is amazing. Top work.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I agree. I think a bowling alley is a definite contender for a future set, but maybe not next year as it would be a too similar a theme to downtown diner. I hope they don't make us wait till November again without so much as a rumor of what the next set will be. -
[MOC] MIKE'S BIKES / ICE CREAM PARLOUR (Modular Building)
Bricked1980 replied to ReplicaOfLife's topic in LEGO Town
Fabulous. I really like the colours you've used. The light blue building contrasts nicely next to the dark red building and the sand green window frames really "pop" next to the red. I also love all the interior details and I can't believe how much you've managed to squeeze in to a footprint of only 20 x 28.- 15 replies

[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thank you very much and glad you like the trailer. I think this helps to add some playability to the model and hopefully make it appeal to kids as well as AFOLs. Thanks. It was a really nice surprise to have it featured on the brothers brick. I have considered using Facebook although I don't currently have a FB account so not sure it would be worth setting one up just to promote my ideas project. Last week a guy who follows of on Flickr sent me a message to say he'd posted my model on a Facebook steampunk group he is a member of. Not really sure I'd class this as steampunk but even so, I did notice that my support count went up quite a bit on that day. So I think Facebook is a definitely a good way of gaining exposure for lego ideas projects and mocs in general.- 65 replies

[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE

@paupadros I noticed you had posted it on reddit earlier. I'm really grateful for that. Thanks very much. Also I've just spotted that it had been featured earlier today on a Dutch Lego blog. https://www.bouwsteentjes.info/uitgelicht-lego-ideas-the-old-workhorse/- 65 replies

[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I did send a message to brickset just using the Web contact form but haven't heard back from them. I might contact Huw or FlagsNZ personally though. Good idea. If you wouldn't mind doing that for me, that would be fantastic many thanks. I think it's better received on reddit when somebody else posts the mocs as self promotion seems to get frowned upon a bit over there. Thanks so much for offering to do that @paupadros Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.- 65 replies

[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks. The first one is my favourite too. The sunset background contrasts well with the green and red of the engine. Thanks very much. Actually this week it's also been featured in 2 other blogs that I know of. One called "Mike Shouts" https://mikeshouts.com/old-workhorse-traction-engine-lego-ideas/ and secondly in a Portuguese Lego blog https://oficina.blogs.sapo.pt/tag/bricked1980 Well I'm doing all I can think of at the minute. I'm finding it harder to get votes now that it's dropped away from the top of the homepage. It's much harder now for people to find on Ideas unless they're specifically looking for it. I've posted it on Reddit and have signed up to Instagram and twitter. Don't really know what I'm doing with twitter though and so far I've got no followers. I have been in contact with the editor of a magazine called Vintage Spirit. He likes the model and is hoping to run a feature about it in the next issue due out in August. This is a printed magazine aimed at Traction Engine and Steam enthusiasts. So who knows, that might generate some interest from outside the Lego community.- 65 replies

[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Here are a couple of new shots of my model. I have also created a 3D view of the model. You can use your mouse to pan around the model and zoom in and out to give an idea of how it was put together. You can find this at the following link https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/X8jO5V79aYJ Thank you to everybody who has supported this so far on Lego Ideas. It's not too far off the 1000 mark now, so if you like the model and haven't done already, please give it your support. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2a2ec583-9836-4868-8dc7-6b3bb0a2fe80- 65 replies

LEGO Ideas Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks. I think I could get in to trouble if Lego thought i was trying to mislead people in to thinking my model was an official set. That definitely isn't my intention with that picture though. Just thought it was something different that might get noticed. Anyway I have sent Lego an email asking if I'm allowed to use their logos so I'll wait and see what they come back with. @Frostbricks it's interesting to read your experiences of how the new site has affected the support you've been getting. I know my project has only been running for 3 weeks but I have noticed that my support count suddenly spiked a bit when the new site was unveiled and for some reason also when the Voltron set was unveiled. I suppose it was just because there were more people than usual were visiting the site on those days. -
Ah that's a shame. At least it showed you just how much people love your fantastic model though, as it was gaining support very fast.

LEGO Ideas Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks @Exetrius. There is another bit in the T&C's that says you can promote the projects in any way you want but I think you're right. It's probably not worth the risk unfortunately. I showed that picture to my daughter earlier who thought it was a real. I have now got an upset 6 year old who is distraught she can't have a copy of Daddy's Lego set. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Just wanted to ask people's advice. I am trying to promote my own Ideas project and have created an image that basically looks like fake box art packaging of the model. It also includes the Lego and IDEAS logos on the box. I was intending to distribute this on Flickr and maybe Instagram with a caption saying something like "help make this a reality" or something like that. Anyway I'm just wondering if this is against the rules and whether or not I could get disqualified for using the official Lego logos in my promotional stuff. There is some small print on the Ideas site saying "You mustn't create mock ups of box artwork or use the Lego logo" but I think that is relating to the images you submit to the Ideas website itself. Not sure if it would also apply to images promoting the models on other websites. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've just been checking the site and I can't see that anything has changed. The search function is still not working properly. As an experiment I tried doing a search for my own project so entered the words "Traction Engine" in to the search box. It brings up over 3000 results, many of which having nothing whatsoever to do with steam engines. I'd be interested to know @Frostbricks have you noticed any difference to the amount of support your project has been getting since the site was changed a couple of weeks ago? In my opinion it does seem like they've made it harder for people to find the more established projects with higher support counts. It seems as if whole idea of the homepage is now just to point people towards the newer entries or ones that haven't had many votes. -
I saw this on Flickr a couple of days ago. Definitely looking forward to seeing how this turns out. The details and textures around the windows are looking great. Wow 30,000 page views. Congratulations.

LEGO Ideas Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well it seems the Ideas site has been taken offline for maintenance again and has been down now for the past couple of hours or so. I wonder what changes they will be implementing this time. Hopefully they'll be sorting out some of the issues that arose after the last update. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wonder if people get a choice of which sets to have once they achieve 10,000 supports. Can they choose any three sets up to the value of $500 dollars or do Lego choose which sets they give away? -
That's a very crisp and polished looking design. Love the roof I can see why you like that one so much. This one is beautiful. Once again the roof is really nicely done on this one. I also really like the land, rocks and foliage around the base. There is a definite theme I can spot with today's picks. They all have fantastic roof designs.

I love all the fabulous details in this. The city layout with the red train looks great - it reminds me of a bigger more detailed version of the train layout in the AFOLs apartment in Assembly Square. I also really like the mini versions of the Milenium Falcon and the Disney Castle.

Agreed! WH Smith are one of those retailers that advertise the sets as "Buy One Get One Half Price", but by the time you've done the maths you aren't saving anything at all as the prices are higher than you'd pay at other stores anyway. Despite this I've had a quick look on Ebay and the cheapest I can see the helicopter and boat for is around £40 and the camper van is going for about £30. So in that respect I guess they were pretty good deals.

a Place of Tranquility and Self Reflection ( MOC )
Bricked1980 replied to carebear's topic in LEGO Town
As other have said already, the way you've built the roof tiles is very effective. All the colours work well together and the interior is nicely detailed. You've photographed it really well too. -
Yes the the boxes did look a bit bashed and faded. I may be wrong but I think the camper is from either 2012 or 2013. That's why I was so surprised to still find these for sale. The branch I found these in has recently been refurbished so I assume these old sets must have arrived at the store with all their new stock. Before that they'd probably been sitting in a warehouse somewhere gathering dust for all these years.

Hi everyone Whilst out shopping earlier today I visited the Leicester UK branch of WH Smith. I was looking around the toy section and noticed they were selling some long retired lego sets. I took this photo showing three city sets that caught my eye. One of them is from the 2014 arctic range and I believe the other 2 are older than that - anyway they were all retired several years ago. Despite their age they were all still being sold at RRP and were actually on offer at buy one get one half price. I'm now kicking myself that I didn't actually buy any of them. It's not very often that you see sets this old still for sale in major high street stores.
