Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Don't think they'll have double sided faces. The chef's hat doesn't have hair to cover up whatever face was positioned at the back. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I had started to accept the idea that the Diner is legit but there is still some things about it which make me suspicious. I will try to explain... In my opinion there is something about the layout of the leaked advert/image which just looks off. Each year when a new modular is released Lego always reveal these beautiful graphic designs to support the new models. The images always show the latest model in the foreground with the previous 2 models behind following the same angle of perspective. On the leaked image of the diner, the angle of perspective is nothing like it is on all the past graphics for previous modulars though. In fact there is just something about the way the new model has been photographed which looks pretty amateurish to me. A small section of the right side of the building seems to be cut off slightly, and the rocket/aerial thing on the top is slightly cropped off, although I do appreciate that might just be because whoever photographed the leaked page hasn't managed to get the whole thing in to frame. Here is last years image for Assembly Square. This was the only time they've used a strip of all the previous sets side by side at the bottom of the page, and this was just to support the fact it was the 10th anniversary. So why would they recycle this graphic for the new modular, and even if they did want to re-use it why haven't they updated the image to include the diner within the line-up of buildings? I understand that the leaked page is probably only a preliminary design, only intended to be seen internally by Lego employees, but as a graphic designer myself, I still think they'd have done a better job of designing this advert, to follow the same template, branding style used for previous sets. Finally, it's one thing that they seem to have abandoned the generic smiley faces for the minifigs but I still say there is something about some of the faces (especially the guy in the car) that doesn't even look like an official lego face to me. His reminds me of some of the poor quality faces I've seen online, produced by some of the rip off chinese companies. Sorry for rambling on, there is still a great deal to suggest that this is legit but I can't say I'm completely convinced. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Assuming that the Diner isn't fake, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out this one hasn't been designed by Jamie Berrard. I think whoever has designed it has had a good go at replicating some of his techniques like the roofline along the top of the building, but the overall vibe of this building is just too different to previous models. -
The surfer van and stunt plane look pretty good, I reckon these are the only Creator sets of 2018 I'm interested in getting. As for the new modular buildings - these are a real let down as far as I'm concerned. The designers seem to have opted for a more childish approach to the designs and have scrapped the realistic look of previous years in favor of wacky play features, ie. a ski slope across the roof and skate board ramp on the side of a house. I appreciate that these sets are not really aimed at adults and that they want to ramp up the play features to encourage more children, but do kids really want this sort of stuff? I know my 6 year old daughter would much prefer the old style fold out out buildings rather than all this modular play stuff.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

A few people have mentioned that shop assistants in the lego stores have confirmed the picture is real but would they really be allowed to discuss unreleased sets with members of the public? For that matter would they even know anyway if they're just store workers? -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I think as a standalone building it looks pretty good but when combined with the other medulars it would stick out like a saw thumb, especially next to the European styled buildings, Parisian restaurant, assembly square etc. It don't think it would even match up all that well with detectives office and the other American buildings. It just seems too much of a departure from previous designs and styles. Despite this I will reserve judgement until the official images get released, assuming the whole thing isn't fake which I'm now starting to think it probably isn't. -

Just to confirm. The strip of past buildings along the bottom is copied and pasted directly from the inside back page of the assembly square instruction book including the dark blue background behind the buildings, I've just double checked my copy. It would seem lazy that the lego group would just recycle elements of the graphic design from last year. Pretty sure this is a good quality fake. There is just something about the whole thing which just doesn't seem up to usual lego standards. By the way the town hall image which appears out of scale with the other sets is exactly the same in the end pages of assembly square instructions. -

Not sure about this. Not only is it strange to not have the classic faces. There is just something about the faces that looks weird to me. The guy driving the car and girl in the green top don't even look like official lego faces. More like the shoddy quality faces that Asian companies like enlighten or sluban etc would churn out. It looks a good build overall but not quite the usual professional standards that lego would release. Pretty sure the strip at the bottom showing all the past modulars is just lifted straight from last year's promotional material for assembly square. It's even got the dark blue background that was used for the 10th anniversary which had the fireworks graphics on it. I think it's fake unfortunately. -
Does anybody know if there will be a creator building in 2018 to carry on the line of high street style buildings they've released the past few years, ie. Bike Shop and Cafe, Toy and Grocery Store, Corner Deli and Park Street Townhouse? I notice that the corner Deli has recently been retired and now Park Street Townhouse is listed as "retiring soon" after only one year. It looks as if they might be scrapping this line of models in favor of the newer modular 3 in 1 buildings. This would be a real shame in my opinion.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Hi, I'm new here but have been keeping a close eye on this forum over the last couple of weeks desperate to hear any news of the next modular. If you look back at all the major releases from Lego over the past year it seems that they almost always make official announcements during the second half of the month somewhere from the 18th onwards. Also for the past 3 months they have announced one major d2c set right at the end of each month... August 31st - Millennium Falcon September 27th - Joker Manor October 31st - Taj Mahal Although the modular set would normally have been announced by now, it wouldn't make much strategic sense to announce it close to to these other sets and steal their thunder. From looking at this release pattern over the last few months, my personal guess is that the new modular will be officially announced some time over the next 2 weeks, possibly as soon as this coming Monday but more likely during the last week of November. I'd also be willing to bet it'll still go on sale at the start of January as this has been the tradition for the past few years now. Finally although it seems unusual to have not heard any solid rumors by now, I honestly think this is just down to Lego tightening up their security. Both the Joker Manor and the Taj Mahal were complete surprises when they were announced.
