  1. I really like this. A few people have had a go at turning this set in to a modular building but yours is one of the best I've seen. It works really well as a 16 wide modular. Really like what you've done with the interior too. It's also very helpful to see the model photographed alongside official modulars as it helps to give a sense of the size. I think it looks fantastic next to the pet shop buildings and your modified versions as well.
  2. These look really good and would compliment any theme park or city layout perfectly. My favourite is the burger design but all three are great and work really well together. Good luck with the Lego Ideas submission.
  3. I've found this MOC which features a corner modular with car wash. There are more pics on Flickr... https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevin8/sets/72157631301835298/
  4. This looks great. I like the colours you've used and the overall shape of the building. It fits in perfectly with the official modulars. Also the roof edge detailing looks really nice, as does the interior. Good job.
  5. I like this one. The facade is much simpler than the others but it looks very effective with the 3 primary colours of red, yellow and blue. Also I really like how the whole building is set at an angle.
  6. Yes the idea of the poll was so that people could vote for the one they thought was best, but you have a point. Some people probably would like the idea of their mocs being judged against other people's. Another option could be that if the the moc builders want their designs to be featured in the poll then they have to manually add their mocs to it themselves. This would solve the issue of anyone getting upset and would also mean that it wouldn't have to rely on one person having to sift through all the new entries and compile the list each month. I don't know really. It seemed like a good idea in principle but perhaps it wouldn't be very easy in practice to set up something like this. This sounds good. Some sort of system that automatically adds new mocs to the home page or highlights them so that they are more easily spotted amongst all the other topics and discussion. That would be great.
  7. I agree the renders people make using mecabricks are by far the most realistic I've seen. I had a go at opening one of my ldd models in mecabricks and all the parts imported fine apart from all the decorated elements which all lost their prints. This is annoying as otherwise mecabricks works perfectly and definitely makes the best looking and quickest renders. That looks great. I've been playing around with this software suite a bit today and I have to say I'm impressed with the results it gives and it's very simple to use. I've found the finished images look term similar to bluerender except they have more details and as you mention it's also possible to add depth of field and background images. Think you can also do basic animation with it too. Thanks again to everyone for your advice and suggestions.
  8. Here's a question I'm curious to know to know the answer to. I wonder if any of the lego pro's also design their own moc's in their spare time? I'd be interested to know if guys like Jamie Berrard have got their own lego layouts at home filled with their own moc modular buildings. Or maybe after a hard at the lego office they prefer to hang up the bricks when they get home each night.
  9. Over in @LegoModularFans other topic we having been discussing a great idea that @paupadros came up with. We think it would be a good idea to create a topic listing all the moc designs that get posted each month and maybe giving a poll at the end of each month inviting people to vote for their favourite. The problem we've found on EB is that many of the mocs get swamped up amongst other discussion threads and once they get pushed off page one of the forum, nobody comments on them anymore and they just get lost and forgotten. That's a real shame when you consider the effort people go to designing and building these things. So we think bringing them all together in a monthly poll would be a great fun thing to do and would also provide some extra exposure to the designers. I'm sure lots of people would enjoy this and it might even encourage more people to post mocs on here if they like the idea of it being featured in a monthly poll. A different poll could be set up in each forum but would be especially relevant in the town forum where the mocs tend to get lost amongst all the other discussions going on. What does everyone think of this idea? And if any of the EB staff are reading, is this something you might consider setting up?
  10. Wow, a real feast for the eyes. This looks really stunning. The first thing that hits you when looking at this moc is your trademark use of bold bright colours and all the wonderful ways you've used the textures of different bricks to create the patterns on the facade. You seem to have a real knack for combining all these colours and textured bricks in your mocs without any of them ever clashing. I especially like the colourful centre building. The shaping of this is fantastic and I love how the white and blue sloped bricks on the roof line, sweep around and lead your eye down to the pharmacy building on the right. This looks even more effective on some of the other pics on your flickr page too. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better I saw the interior shots. I can't believe the amount of detail you've managed to squeeze in to a 32 x 32 model. I really like the grand piano and the pizza restaurant but think my favourite is the lounge room. It looks very chilled out and relaxed in there and that fish tank is really cool. This is an amazing and inspiring moc. It's instantly recognisable as one of your designs yet it is quite different to your others as well. I think this is one of your best yet. It hooks amazing in the shot alongside your other modulars. Your renders and image presentation is also second to none.
  11. I'd definitely be interested in a topic like this. If it's too difficult to make one with a monthly vote then maybe some sort of gallery hall of fame featuring all of the MOC's submitted that month. It would be interesting to see everyones work side by side and would help to give more exposure to the models and their designers.
  12. Thanks a lot everyone for all the tips and advice. I've been trying out some of the suggestions today. First I installed Stud.io which looks like good software. Unfortunately some of the parts had shifted on my imported LDD file and all the printed elements had lost their graphics. Despite this I still had a go at using the built in renderer but I didn't think the result was quite as realistic as I'd already been able to achieve with Bluerender. From what I've seen Mecabricks does seem to give the most life like results. Some of the results I've seen look as close to "photorealistic" as I reckon is possible. Thanks you for this. I've downloaded it and it does work on my PC. The results are pretty good. A bit like Bluerender but all the studs have the Lego logo on them and a small gap is added between each brick for extra realism. The transparent parts also come out really well using this software.
  13. I'm not a HP fan but this looks like a wonderful set and a "must buy" especially if that price is correct. As well as the loco and coach, the station also looks great. I keep looking at the pic of the new city passenger train and I have to say it is growing on me a lot. Sure it might not be super realistic but I like my lego vehicles to look like toys, if that makes sense. If I wanted accurate scale models I'd be buying OO gauge models instead. Just hope there is some variation in the interiors of the 2 coaches and that they aren't exact copies of eachother.
  14. As far as I know it's supposed to be possible to create a poll within a topic after you get to 500 posts. Maybe if he idea took off and was successful the EB moderators could create one of those tag/badge things to award to the winner each month.
  15. These layouts are all amazing but think the Amsterdam one is my favourite, just beautiful. What a great and fun idea. Maybe it would work better as it's own topic rather than within this thread. Is this an idea you'd consider setting up @LegoModularFan? You could call it "MOC of the Month" or something like that. At the start of each month you could bring together all the MOC's that have been added to the town forum during the previous month and then ask people to vote for their favourite. I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy doing this and it might encourage more people to share their MOC's on EB. The problem is that when people add MOC's to the forum, as soon as they slip away from the top of page 1, nobody seems to comment on them anymore and before you know it they disappear amongst the hundreds of other threads in the town forum and are forgotten. This is a shame when you consider all the hard work that goes in to creating them. Doing a new monthly topic like this would be a great way of giving extra recognition to the MOC's.
  16. Many thanks for the tips @inkpanther and @SylvainLS. I've tried updaing the XML file but my LDD files are still messed up when I import them in to Blender. I'll have a look at the other option with the lxf2ldr. Thanks, I hadn't thought of trying Stud.io. Didn't realise you can generate renders directly from within Stud.io. Is the quality of them any good and how would you say it compares to Blender or Pov Ray?
  17. Thanks so much for posting these. I've been waiting eagerly for the decent pics to be released. Sure enough these pics make the sets look much much better.
  18. Hi everyone I'm a regular on Eurobricks but this is the first time I've posted anything in the digital building forums. I've recently started to design MOC's using Lego Digital Designer and this is my first creation... All the images were rendered using Blue render which I like because it's fairly fast and incredibly easy to use. I was quite happy with these images but then I saw a few other renders that people have created online and am blown away by the quality of them. Some of them are so good that it's hard to tell they aren't built from real bricks. Can anyone suggest to me, the best software or method of rendering images from models created in LDD. I've tried POV Ray but am not that impressed with the results. Even in top quality the renders seem to have a fake looking sheen that makes them look artificial and almost as if they've been shrink wrapped in plastic. It also takes hours to render the images on my PC using POV Ray. I've been pouring over other threads in the forum and have read a lot about people using Blender. As far as I can tell though the only way of getting LDD models to open in Blender is by converting them to LDraw files first. When I tried this though it messes up a lot of the bricks in my model. Similarly I tried importing them in to Mecabricks but this messes up any bricks that have printed elements on them. Does anyone know of another way of getting LDD files in to Blender directly without it messing up the models? From what I've seen, Bluerender seems to be the most user friendly option for creating renders. I read somewhere on here that a "Sunflow" patch had been created for Bluerender which gave a more realistic result with better detail and the Lego logo on each stud. When I followed the link to download this though it redirected me to a different site, so I assume this patch has since been removed. So I'd be very grateful if anyone could suggest anything I can do to make my renders look more realistic or suggest any other software or methods that might give a better result. Thanks!
  19. This looks really, really nice. The front facade is is beautiful, I love the detailing around the ground floor windows on the left side of the model. The interior is also packed full of brilliant details and awesome minibuilds, especially the photoscopier/printer. I really like the quirky back story you've created for the minifigs as well. The whole thing is top notch and the photography is so good I actually found myself scrutinising the images to see if they were digital renders - they look so polished and professional. Great job!
  20. This looks fantastic and is the quality of an official modular as far as I'm concerned. I love all the detailing around the windows with and how you've used all those curved tile pieces. I also really like the colours used on the exterior. The interior is also lovely and jam packed with details. It's a brilliant MOC.
  21. Thank you. The front of the phone box is basically just a red door frame with one of these doors. https://brickset.com/parts/4541987/door-glas-t-frame-1x4x6-21-42 For the sides I used transparent 1x2 bricks stacked up with 1x2 red plates positioned between each brick. This was the best way I could think of doing it that kept the base of the phone box no bigger than 4 x 4 studs.
  22. Just been looking over the pics of the midi scale project you're working on. It's looking great, those tiny cars and scooter look really nice. Look forward to seeing what you come up with when this project is finished. This looks really good. I'm particularly impressed he managed brick built lettering at such a small scale on the pink and purple building.
  23. This looks awesome. The arena is really impressive and jam packed with details. I like how you've included the Disney minifigs and juniors cars3 vehicles. I also really like the church and other smaller moc buildings on the layout. Fantastic work.
  24. I think the only reason they chose to design the diner in art deco style was because it was the obvious choice for a 1950s American Diner. I don't think there was necessarily any conscious effort to push the modular series in to a new exclusively 1950s art deco era going forward for all future modulars. I think there's every possibility they could have a go at some sort of art nouveau design in the future but they'd only tackle it if that style suited the particular topic and theme of the set they wanted to create. So I wonder what subject matter they could pick for a modular that would work really well in art nouveau?
