[TC9] WIP 4x4 Racer
Technic Jim replied to JJ2's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looking very snug and compact-what sort of bodywork are you going to put on it? Also, that idea of a quadcopter as a B-Model certainly has me interested. -
[REVIEW] 42050 - Drag Racer
Technic Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like the idea of this car, but I don't think that the designer pulled it off - the bodywork is quite angular and has bits showing through and the wheelie function isn't the best. However, having said that, it could be quite appealing. I think this is another buy for me. -
[REVIEW] 42048 - Race Kart
Technic Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I knew that I was going to try and get this set when I saw the prelim pictures and this and Sariel's review have cemented that. This set is great for all ages: kids because they will really enjoy that gearbox; older kids/teenagers because they will enjoy working out the mechanics of the gearbox and AFOLs because it look great with those new purple-coloured panels -
[MOC] Case Steiger
Technic Jim replied to Buddy010702's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That looks really fun to play with. I don't mind that it is slightly out of scale because I can't even build bodywork which looks remotely like anything real. However, while putting it on lego ideas is a good idea, the chance of it getting through and TLG approving it are very slim so don't get your hopes up! I agree with this because it would make it more playable.- 10 replies

You can also get a good idea of how the steering works by looking at that picture. It looks like it is done with technic pins on the steering shaft and the rack, similar to how it is done in 8256.It looks like there is a gearbox to make the fake engine move, if you look at this image, because of the inset in the bottom right. Talking of 8256, I think it would look great next to the new go-kart.

Lego Drift Wheels

Thanks for helping, I've just ordered the 68.8mm wheels. I wouldn't have known what to order but you helped so thanks for that. -

Thank you a lot for this, it is really helpful because I was so confused. Presumably the 4th wheel uses power puller rims. -
Lego Drift Wheels
Technic Jim replied to Technic Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you for all the help but I was wondering what size the rubber ones were in relation to each other and whether they would fit on the Unimog rims. Although, I may have to get some 44777 wheels... -
Hello all. At the moment I am working on building a drift car. I know what size wheel I want but as I go on bricklink to by some I see that there are a lot of different sizes. The wheels I want are ones that will fit on Unimog rims so can anyone help. The first size wheel was this one, found in the 42000 Grand Prix racer The second one was this one found in the Ferrari from 2003 The last one was this one used in Sariels moc F1 Car. And lstly what about 44777? Are these wheels all different sizes or am I being stupid? Thank you, Jim

The idea is nice but in actual reality I don't know how well it would work. I've spent many painful hours trying to work out how to use a blooming gyro sensor because they are so inaccurate they make you want to cry. So, if you do want to try or someone else to, good luck!

You can buy aluminium moulds for the injection moulder but we are going to do something with our laser cutter so that, in theory, you should be able to design any mould you want. As for new ideas, there probably won't be any but I'm thinking of laser cutting a guide for the wheels so the bushings can be perfectly centred.
-
Hello all, Recently my school has purchased an Injection Moulder. As of yet we haven't bought any moulds for it so have just got the one set of moulds it came with: a wheel. The finished wheel has a 5cm diameter on the plain side of the wheel, tapering in to 4.5cm on the spoked side. The wheel can be made out of two types of plastic. One is recycled bottle lids (any HDPE, recycling code 2, plastic works) either shredded or hand chopped very finely or some small plastic pellets that came with the machine. Out of the wheels I made the rougher, green one was bottle lids and the smoother blue one was the funny little pellets. The first thing I thought when I saw the finished wheel was 'Drifting!!'. However, there were a few problems. The main problem was the fact that the wheels didn't have an axle hole. I tried to counter this by gluing bushings on but these weren't straight and I couldn't get them centred. The other problem was the small size. The 5cm diameter was too small to be any good for me to use, with my range of pieces and motors. So, unfortunately, there is no drifting vehicle . The pictures attatched are of the top and bottom of the two different wheels. Sorry about the quality, I haven't quite figured out how to use my GoPro+New lighting setup yet!

Technic Jim replied to Pego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cheers for this. I'll probably use and adapt this idea soon because I'm looking for a small suspension. -

That is looking really nice and snug but very functional; I like it! Can you post some more pictures of the rear suspension please, it looks really cool. Also, what battery box are you using because size and weight could be an issue? -

[MOC] Small Supercar
Technic Jim replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't know whether this should be called a supercar or a spaceship; just look at that first photo! For power you could do something with a minizip (a 9V battery to lego PF converter).
