  1. So what do you do with them? I don't understand.... Do you not build stuff? Sorry if I'm being rude or ignorant, but it seems a bit silly to me. Personally, the first thing I do when I get a new set is rip it open and spread all those lovely new pieces on the table. The box gets squashed and put in the recycling bin. Official sets last about a week or two before being dismantled for MOC's. I'd love to see all that Lego in a big pile ready for a good old session!
  2. Amazing work. The shapes are lovely. I'll be building this one, thanks for the LDD
  3. Hi. I've been trying to combine the two styles too. I've found the 4404 creator set has an interesting way to add suspension to a studfull body. also the Roaring roadster has a good base to add studles chassis stuff, And these bits are very useful, The best way to teach myself has been to find a creator set I like, and make it more Technic! Hope this helps a bit....
  4. Well, like I said, it's not the end of the world. The seller had a few negatives and neutrals. But he had the parts I needed. It was more the non communication and the "it's the customers fault" attitude. I won't be using him again. Well, that's my rant over. I'll say no more!
  5. Since we're in the pub, I feel a small rant coming on! I placed a bricklink order that was to be posted from Finland to the UK. It took 7 days for the guy to actually get round to posting it and it didn't get to me for 2 weeks after ordering. I know I asked for economy mail, which I assume should take a few days to get here, but a week before posting my order? There was no response to email queries either. When I finally got the order yesterday I gave neutral feedback because I thought the service was not that great. Now the seller immediately gave me negative feedback and sent me a ranting email saying it was my fault for choosing economy mail! My otherwise perfect feedback is now stained with a negative point! I wish I had given him negative feedback now. Anyway, it's not the end of the world, but it annoyed me for a bit. Anyone else had bricklink issues?
  6. Yeah. That's what I think I'll try. Thanks. I've taken out all the gears before the gearbox, so I'll have to test it out with "real" bricks soon.
  7. Very clever use of parts. That suspension set up is pretty nifty. Well done!
  8. I geared it down because I didn't want the pistons to be going so wild in top gear. I might play around with gearing down after the gearbox but for now I'm trying LIpko's suggestions. I'm pretty much starting the chassis again! I think you are right with the bracing too. It's back to the drawing board I go. Many thanks.
  9. Awesome. I'll give it a go. Many thanks!
  10. OK, maybe I'll try to move the gearbox up (I'm working to a blueprint of a real car), get rid of the 8 tooth gears and only gear down once after the differential. When it wasn't geared down the pistons went crazy on forth gear and just kind of got stuck....
  11. Thanks for the relies. Ha... Many, many times! I first tried universal joints and it was much worse. That's why I geared it down after the differential. I don't think the engine is too high. It's as low as I could get it. Here is what it looks like with everything else, I will try this to see what happens. I'm starting to think that lego is just not up to the job for gearboxes. Thanks All.
  12. Hello fellow brickers. I'm attempting my first "Supercar" MOC and I'm having a little trouble with the gears. I've based the four speed gearbox on Sariel's from his Unofficial Technic guide. My problem is the third and fourth gears have a great deal of friction. I've geared it down a fair bit to try and compensate, but in fourth gear the car doesn't "roll" at all. Do any of you car builders have any suggestions? here are some pictures and the LDD file is here Thanks for looking!
  13. Love it. Instantly recognisable. I've been trying to make a technic chassis with a system body for a while. I shall be using this as inspiration. Any chance of a belly shot?
  14. Well, I've just looked at the parts list. what with the 28 steering arms, the old motors and the power puller wheels I don't have, I doubt I'll be making it anytime soon. It was mainly the suspension I was interested in. I'll see if I can work out LDraw and take a look. Thanks for your offer. We can get back on topic now....
  15. Unfortunately I don't know much about LDraw. Maybe I should check it out. If you "suppose you could" make PDF instructions, I'd be a very happy easter bunny!
  16. Nice work Blackbird. are there any instructions for Andrea Grazi's monster truck? or even an LDD file?
  17. Nice. You got some good speed there. Does the battery pack have any adverse affect on the motors? I've been thinking about making a custom battery myself.
  18. Thanks guys. I love the way lego is so versatile. I'm not a huge fan of technic panels, so mixing the two styles seems like the natural way forward.
  19. Thanks guys. Yeah. The 4-wide windshields are much better.
  20. Hi folks, This is my first post on the town forum. I'm generally a Technic guy. I think the new speed champion sets are awesome. However, My personal opinion is that they are too narrow. I saw this nice MOD, and decided to have a go too. Not only did I widen the car to 8 studs, but I also moved the top back by a stud. I also had to lower the floor inside to get the mini figure in and put some exhaust pipes on the back. I might be in a minority round these parts, But I'm not a fan of stickers, so I left them off. Here's the final results. Hope you like it. Thanks for looking.
  21. Greetings all. For the past few builds I have been trying to concentrate on aesthetics rather than functions. This has naturally brought me to Model team and system bricks. In a bid to learn new building skills I have been looking at non Technic sets to try out. The 4896 popped out at me like a jack in a box! The looks are lovely, the functions are good. But there was a problem. It's a rather expensive set to buy. So the solution? Bricklink of coarse. I also had a few red bits in my collection, so I decided to change the color. little did I know the 6 red brick arches where difficult to come by at a reasonable price. at least in the UK. And don't even start on the chromed macaroni bits behind the seats... So after making it, I immediately wanted to add suspension. I had to widen the car by two studs to fit the steering links in and had to completely rebuild the chassis to make it compatible with odd length Technic parts. As the car is pretty heavy, the back suspension had to be very stiff. Utilizing two extra hard shocks. It's a very firm suspension, but two soft springs just didn't hold up the weight. The front wasn't so bad as it doesn't have as much weight. Here are some pictures. My next project is to add a working steering wheel. And possibly a rear differential. But I'm not sure there's any room for that. Thanks for looking. Comments always welcome. By the way, if a mod thinks this should be in another forum, please feel free to move it.
  22. Very impressive. Lovely shape and great performance. Would using 2 IR receivers give the same result? Apart from the range, how does the power compare? Once more you've raised the Technic bar! Well done.
  23. I have V.1 IR receivers and they work fine with a servo and L motor. I only use them indoors though. If you can get an 8081 extreme cruiser, it's great for modding with power functions. I would go for L motor over Xl. If you want more torque you can double up on L's. I can't help you with sbrick. I have an android!
  24. 5 months is way past my attention span! Having looked at pictures of the real truck, I think you've done a good job. Well done. Is it a spare wheel on the drivers side?
  25. Very nice. I like the shape and the cleanliness of it. I'd love to see a belly shot. What size tyres are you using?
