News and excitement hath struck Pontelli! Members of the Royal Society have rushed to see the great discovery: While digging in the back of his garden, Alberto da Pontelli has actually found the complete skeleton of a unicorn! History of nature needs to be rewritten! All the Royal Society members are so excited! But wait, George da Pontelli is nowhere to be seen. Could this possibly be a prank set up by the clever monkey? I owe the house's design to Marcu22. The first version was built as a "counter attack" in the Kaliphlin Civil War - and I liked the design a lot, so I modified the MOC into a smaller version and added a bit of an interior. Then many months have come and gone. The build stayed in its box. And now I am happy to present the house to you (before I need to take it apart...) C&C welcome!

We just published an interesting article on whether LEGO products have become more violent. What do you think? Here is the summery of the article: "Although television, computer games and the Internet play an important role in the lives of children they still also play with physical toys, such as dolls, cars and LEGO bricks. The LEGO company has become the world’s largest toy manufacturer. Our study investigates if the LEGO company’s products have become more violent over time. First, we analyzed the frequency of weapon bricks in LEGO sets. Their use has significantly increased. Second, we empirically investigated the perceived violence in the LEGO product catalogs from the years 1978–2014. Our results show that the violence of the depicted products has increased significantly over time. The LEGO Company’s products are not as innocent as they used to be."

I’m just worried after what happened last time. Ah, but last time we didn’t have the expert advice of Ensign Stevens. He’s part of Moose’s team so he’s up to date with all their latest findings. Isn’t that right, Stevens? Err, well… Excellent! Plus, I’ve completely redesigned the stabiliser architecture. Speaking of which, where the hell is Redsyn with the last stabiliser? I’ll give him a call. Redsyn! Where are you? I'm having a little difficulty with the natives. Well, hurry up, will you? I’m getting bored here. Yeah, I’ll try. Some time later… ...and I usually play as Mitgardia. Redsyn! What’s the hold up? Trouble with the locals. Still?! Different ones this time. Unbelievable. Right, let’s just go ahead with three stabilisers. What?? It’ll be fine. We almost had it right last time with four stabilisers, but these new ones are a lot stronger. Sal, I just did some calculations, and going from fourfold to threefold stabilisation symmetry is likely to decrease the discontinuity threshold by at least seven orders of magnitude! Good point! Location: F03 Forring Tags: Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle, Civil Building, Science Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // While Dr. Allison and I were taking a tour of one of the Farr-tes advanced scientific research facilities we were awaiting the return of ED-208. He had received a full overhaul and we were told to expect him via one of the mini-ships Octan uses for robot delivery. The ships aren't very spacious and lack food and restrooms, but they are very efficient and reusable. The lab was very advanced and had access to vast computing power. In one of their experiments they were superheating Awesomnium into a gas to see how it behaved and then were going to try combining that with other elements to see what the result was. Mike was working in the small updraft lab which prevented any vapors from escaping without being hermetically sealed. They weren't running any experiments at the moment so he was able to show off the lab and the various features. I'll definitely have to make sure we get some like this installed on the Axle! They’re off testing it out near Donwarr as we speak. You mean it hasn’t been tested yet? Uh… it probably has? I kinda just skimmed Fields’s notes: superpositions, n-dimensional singularities, certain death, blah blah blah. Anyway, I figured if we can create a stable hollow GATE field around a ship, the field should transport all incoming or outgoing signals through the GATE, meaning that the ship will be undetectable. But couldn’t we wait until Moose’s team has finished their tests first? And let them get all the credit? No chance! GATE stabilisers equalised at 100% Sal. Excellent. Ok, you ready Walker? I guess…? Ugh, it stinks here Sal. Why did we have to do this in the middle of a swamp on a planet we haven’t even settled yet? Blame Chief Accountant Long. I wanted to do this on Torresta but Long got all upset about it just because the risk assessment said there was a small chance of a catastrophic Rhumkopf discontinuity. She insisted we do it out here where no one will notice if we implode a continent. What was that?! Nothing! Fire it up! It worked! We can’t see her! Err… but shouldn’t we not be able to see the GATE drive too? Hmmm… Switch off the drive and see if she comes back. Nooo! Where is she?? Calm down. (FB2, Eslandola, April 2016) Alberto da Pontelli was carrying out his experiments in the basement of his house, which functioned as his laboratory. He was experimenting with the hot phlogiston that was created by setting fire to what came out of a good bottle of old Oleon wine. He thought that this would be enough to make some old cotton underskirt fly (which he had borrowed from his fiancé). It worked! "It flyeth, it flyeth", Alberto exclaimed. "The ball of cotton flyeth". He and Natasha were delighted as the cotton-structure (weighted by a stick) hit the ceiling. .. and they were too happy and distracted to notice other, less important events in the laboratory. (Where would this invention [named: "The flying ball of cotton"] lead him? ) C&C welcome!

Location: E01 Donwarr Tags: Science, Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle, Civil Building Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // I had been called back to the Axle by our CEO pombe. He informed me that he was starting an executive club on the Axle with Bruce Vayne and that he needed me to acquire some very particular supplies. He needed pure, untainted ice from a comet for the drinks and he said that he needed me to also get him some drinks. His exact words were: "Some really good stuff!" As a scientist I know how important being healthy is so I made sure to get a large container of orange juice. Plenty of vitamin C which is really good for you! Pombe had said that this was a vital mission and that he was providing me with the latest stealth ship -- though on my inspection it looked more like a cargo tender that had been painted black. However, stealth isn't my area of expertise so I'm sure I simply wasn't aware of some of the Top Secret parts of the ship. The ship itself was pretty fun to pilot and I got the ice for pombe's new exclusive executive club, so I was sure he would be excited! ED-208 had been sent down to Donwarr to ferry around some Octan employees on one of our rovers. He was annoyed that the rover wasn't armed, but he seemed to enjoy being able to race it around. I told him that it was inspired by a very old lunar rover that wasn't armed and that he should be fine anyway as the area he was in hadn't seen any Mantis activity in weeks. There was a lot of activity on Donwarr actually as Dr. Allison was on assignment to investigate how Awesomnium responded to being tempered at different temperatures. She was working with several engineers and safety folks at an underground lab and said that it was proving to be very interesting work. She enjoyed doing things and not just being stuck in a lab waiting for mice to contract a disease or injecting them with Awesomnium. I was glad that my team was able to contribute to our corporation's success so much! Extra Pics: I know there are a lot of my "stealth ship", but for some reason I overall like the way it turned out.

Location: F03 Forring Tags: Science, Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle, Civil Building Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // I found myself utilizing the data we gathered last week to try and put our theories into practice. It seemed a little weird that as the currently highest ranking scientist in Octan that I would have to do so much field work myself, but our CEO pombe said that we all needed to contribute. He was also excited to have me use one of Bruce Vayne's new space ship designs. I said it looked more like an old Earth railway car but he insisted it was a highly sophisticated piece of machinery. Though I wasn't filled with confidence when pombe said: "After about 7 Alien Annihilators Bruce came up with the idea for this thing!" Surprisingly it seemed to work though and I was able to find some concentrated pockets of Awesomnium. ED-208 was sent ahead to secure a Mantis lab we had discovered while Dr. Allison was utilizing a new speeder design. Given the state of war between Octan and Mantis she was using a more subtle design on the speeder than was typical. It was a very fast and nimble layout, so I told her since ED-208 was not with her and the speeder being unarmed that she should keep the throttle open just in case. I guess she likes going fast because she said the vibrations from the speed were exhilirating. The Mantis lab seemed to be an experimental lab designed to enhance plant life with various Awesomnium soil and water. They also appeared to be using various lighting sources to try and maximize growth. CEO pombe instructed me that he had numerous uses for this technology and that he hoped we could acquire any scientific advancements and that any gains that had been discovered should be reported to him personally. Immediately. I'm not sure why, but he said Bruce Vayne would be very interested also and that he and Bruce would need a lot of Oreos and Doritos. I guess they were going to be trying some new recipe because he said there would be a lot of baking happening. Extra Pics:

Location: F03 Forring Tags: Science, Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle, Civil Building Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // After last week's efforts to better refine our abilities to find Awesomnium we received orders to head over to Forring to assist in the search for Awesomnium there. I obtained one of our "area defense" space drones and removed all of the missiles and other weaponry. I swapped in side scan radar, a front mounted ground penetrating radar and other scanning equipment. These drones typically operate just outside the atmosphere in space waiting for targets, so having it operate at that altitude and scanning for signs of Awesomnium wasn't going to be a problem. Dr. Allison and I headed out to a small Octan building on the planet where we could best analyze data and alter the flight path of the drone. She had some new mathematical models she wanted to try out to see if they would be more efficient in finding metals. I was certainly happy to have the assistance as the corporation can use all the help it can get in our current conflict with the warriors of MANTIS. Given our state of affairs with them and that Forring is a MANTIS controlled planet I was happy that ED-208 was available to accompany us to the planet's surface. I guess he had properly helped Sue with some sort of "back door adjustment" and she needed several days of rest. I'm not sure what they were adjusting the back door to, but it must have required a lot of work if Sue needed a few days to recover! ED-208 had found a MANTIS mech on Jurin II last week and we had brought it with us. He was in the process of getting it in proper working order and upgrading it when we had to ship out. It wasn't quite done, but it was fully functional and armed. I didn't expect we would encounter heavy resistance since we were going to a remote Octan base, but having some firepower was a relief. He had managed to remove a lot of the human controls and better integrate it with his own robotic form to make the responsiveness much better. It was a marvel to see it operate as an extension of his own body! Hopefully Dr. Allison's models prove beneficial and we are able to refine our capabilities to find Awesomnium. It was good to be back working with drones again as that is my primary speciality. I think that Dr. Allison is even becoming a bit more comfortable in the field now, though she did seem to want me to go into the Octan building with her while ED-208 maintained watch. She said she had something to show me, but I told her that we would lose the signal to the drone from inside the building and that she should bring it out to me and show me outside. I guess it wasn't anything that important as she said: "Ugh, never mind. I should just show ED-208 like Sue!" Extra Pics: ED-208's mech has legs that swing and the part below the knee can twist 360. My first real attempt at a minifig scale mech. Also the gun traverses and can point up and down. The whole thing managed to be pretty easy to balance despite making it up as I went.

Location: E02 Jurin II Tags: Science, Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle, Civil Building Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // As the corporation continues to try and protect itself I was transferred from the OCS Belle Homme over to our newest battleship the OCS Excelsior. Most people seem to refer to it as the OCS Excessive. I guess when CEO pombe decided to have it built his explanation was: "Everyone knows that bigger is better. Therefore biggest is best." It produces enough electricity to power the main cities on Farmolis. It produces enough thrust to actually impact planetary rotation. And it has enough weaponry to bombard a planet into being devoid of life. Fortunately with typical Octan efficiency we've automated most functions and have robots do the majority of the work, so despite being the size of a small moon it can be crewed by as few as 10 Octan employees! One of the Weapons Engineers told me they had to upgrade the armor and anchor points of the main triple turret as it initially fired with enough power to actually buckle the plating around it and they had a pressure leak. He said it was lucky our corporation is so invested in robots as they lost a couple robots but no human lives! Once again CEO pombe tasked ED-208 with our protection on Jurin II. He needed Dr. Allison and myself to head down to the planet for some analysis of some rock chunks to help refine the search for Awesomnium. On the shuttle down to the planet I was temporarily lulled into seeing a dump truck without realizing the scale. It was only once I had figured out that the things next to the dump truck were buildings I recognized the sheer scale of the vehicle! It was absolutely enormous. One of Octan's subsidiary companies apparently made it and it was so massive that they end up breaking it down into many components just to transport it from planet to planet. Once on the surface we made our way to the mining outpost and got to work. ED-208 was ever vigilant on guard while Dr. Allison started her analysis. I decided to get my hands a bit dirty and do a more personal review. I noticed there were different deposits within the sample and even differing qualities of the Awesomnium present. While I'm not a geologist by training, I did find it interesting work. The mining robots we saw were brand new, clearly the corporation values the resources here. I will admit the robots are kind of annoying as every time you talk to them they say "Roger, Roger". ED-208 was clearly amusing himself with his less advanced cousins because he kept asking them things so they would say "Roger, Roger" over and over. I was actually surprised to find them so sterile given the nature of the job, but one of the workers explained that mining involves a lot of science (like we were doing) and that you wouldn't want contamination causing the corporation to pursue Awesomnium at the wrong place which would be very expensive. Location: E02 Jurin II Tags: Science, Land Vehicle, Space Vehicle Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // Given the state of war that exists between Octan and the other corporations, all personnel have been instructed to be much more aware of security. Our delightful CEO pombe had requested that Dr. Allison and I investigate a Mantis lab on Jurin II. I became a bit concerned for how volatile things were when he not only insisted that ED-208 escort us, but Sue didn't even object. Perhaps she is still just in mourning after the profound loss of our friend. I always felt like Normal Guy was a good guy, a great employee, and just a really easily relatable fellow. I can't even imagine how his girlfriend Eshey must be doing. But sadly, in times of war, work must keep going. So ED-208 selected his weaponry to keep us safe and we proceeded to the Octan Heavy Cruiser OCS Belle Homme, recently renamed in honor of our departed colleague. Not knowing the strength or position of Mantis forces on Jurin II, ED-208 had acquired an armed scout car for us. We were glad to have both the speed and weaponry on our trip through enemy territory. ED-208 seemed to really enjoy being back in a gunner's seat and both Dr. Allison and I felt far more comfortable with him along. I think Dr. Allison was extra nervous because she seemed to want to hang onto me during the trip, given how new she is to field work and just in general I think that she was looking for reassurance. Upon our arrival at the lab we began our work. Dr. Allison got down to analysis while I began inspecting the various machinery. ED-208 was on high alert for any Mantis forces that might have returned or in case it was a trap. It looked like the lab hadn't seen any activity in a week or two, but it was still active. It was, in typical Mantis fashion, heavily fortified and quite militaristic in nature. They seemed to be doing some research on liquids, but we weren't quite sure why. It eventually became clear that they were pulling in some of the abundant water from the planet to combine it with locally sourced Awesomnium. They seemed to be attempting to develop a beverage for their forces that would imbue the drinker with benefits from the Awesomnium while also hydrating them. We were able to find some data in various computer logs that showed they hadn't been very successful. Dissolving the Awesomnium in the water had proven difficult and they mostly ended up with very gritty water that tasted terrible and instead of the Awesomnium being absorbed it simply wound up getting peed out. We collected all the data we could and proceeded back to the Belle Homme to prepare our report. I did notice that ED-208 vented some of his frustration at the loss of Normal Guy upon the machinery before we left. Such a tragic loss is hitting all of us hard. Location: H03 Kaalin Tags: Science, Land Vehicle Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // After some serious scientific inquiry into the new fuel/Awesomenium mixture developed by Dr. Allison we decided to take the results and head back to the tanker OCS LT1021 (Large Tanker 1021) for some further analysis and refinement. Luckily we were stationed above an Awesomnium rich planet, so we had a plentiful supply of the stuff. Upon our arrival after I got used to the smell of the fuel, Dr. Allison requested that I use one of the nearby carts to retrieve a healthy amount of Awesomenium for us to work with. Usually I would have delegated that task to ED-208 but Dr. Allison had seen fit to schedule him for a thorough cleaning which he was happy to accept. I couldn't believe I had to do manual labor instead of having a robot do the work, but I didn't want to appear to be a complainer in front of a junior scientist. Dr. Allison was very excited to show me the various controls and the entire infusion process. It wasn't that exciting for me but I managed to pretend to be interested. I know that CEO pombe will want us to make this fuel a success as it has a lot of practical uses. He said once we get this sorted out that there is a body oil he hopes we can also infuse with Awesomnium. And some sort of personal lubricant he said Sue was VERY interested in. Extra Pics:

Location: H03 Kaalin Tags: Science, Land Vehicle Previously... // PERSONAL DIARY // I was pleasantly surprised to hear from Dr. Long and even more intrigued when she said that she needed me to personally oversee something for her. One of our more junior scientists had come up with a new Awesomnium enhanced biomass formulation that required testing. Our illustrious CEO pombe had set up a facility on Kaalin to give the new mix a proper workout and he sent ED-208 with me over the protests of his compatriot Sue. I guess she felt he still had "more servicing" to be done, which is bizarre because he just had a thorough Octan-brand Robotic Assistant Maintenance because she had previously said he needed "attention". When I arrived on Kaalin I was a bit surprised that there wasn't a scientific outpost waiting for me, but an Octan Racing Team test facility. One of their heavy rally trucks was the test bed for the new fuel mixture. The pit crew had been getting the truck ready for me. Luckily I had some experience with race trucks! As I was preparing to take the truck out for a test drive the scientist who discovered the formulation showed up. Her name was Allison and she seemed very excited to be in the field testing. She also seemed very excited in general. I wasn't entirely surprised that she had heard of me and told me how happy she was to be working with me and that maybe if this went well we could do more work together. She seems a bit clingy, but when I mentioned that to ED-208 he said I should ask Dr. Long if she has any experience with a situation like that. Which was a great idea, I'll definitely have to try and set up a dinner for us to discuss it over! Extra Pics:

Location: A04 Mynderis Tags: Science // PERSONAL DIARY // Though I'm no botanist I've been trying my hand at cultivating some flowering plants from Mynderis aboard the Mantis science ship Scorpion in one of the hydroponic labs. I've been adding Awesomnium to the water to see if it enhances them. Big Sal also added one of his new hybrids in the corner to see what impact Awesomnium water has on it. My pacifist companion Ed Zob doesn't seem to like the idea of super powered plants and continues to insist that we should not be meddling with nature. He tried to claim the hybrid is an affront to nature, science, and the gods. Honestly, I think being a pacifist, he just doesn't like that Mantis is so militaristic and he doesn't trust the corporation. It isn't pleasant for me either, but Big Sal has seemed really stressed out lately and the constant stress of leadership and concern over Kawashita attacks can't be helping. Maybe some giant plants would brighten his day. And it would help to know how the Awesomnium impacted plants for other stuff too. He has been so busy lately I haven't really managed to catch up with him much. It seems like he is never in his cabin or his office. And the labs get sealed sometimes when certain experiments are going on. I'm sure he is just really busy with all of his work. Yes, well, Octan’s science department is known for its efficiency. Here, I’ll introduce you to Dr Johnson. Good morning Dr Johnson, this is Big Sal. He’s a pilot who’s considering a career switch to science. Oh, nice to meet you! You too! Dr, would you mind giving Sal a brief tour of the lab? I have some other business to attend to quickly. Sure, no problem! So you're a pilot, huh? Yeah, but I had an accident a few weeks back – gate anomaly, y’know? Ouch… Yup. I was lucky to only lose an arm really, but there was a lot of nerve damage so they only managed to give me this crude thing as a replacement. I’m still a bit clumsy with it. Too clumsy for piloting? Yeah, though to be honest I’ve been thinking of getting into a less dangerous career for while. The accident was kinda the last straw I guess. Ooh, what are these? Legendary explorer Wick Nole brought them in from the swamps a few days ago. They seem to be surprisingly intelligent, though mostly harmless. Hey, Eddie, watch where you’re going with that- What? Arrgh! Oh no! I’m so sorry! It’s this damn robot arm! Hey, don’t worry about it. Accidents happen. What’s that purple stuff? Will drinking it hurt the frogs? It’s awesomnium serum.
