    [MOC] Cobalt House

Thanks! It's some azure, yes. That Assembly Square mod was an early idea but it's not final, I want to change some stuff - add a passage to the back, make it taller to match the LEGO store, and some other adjustments.

    [MOC] SPACEship

Hi everyone, while I usually build houses, I felt the need for a big spaceship - and I decided to use the letters S P A C E for the shape: The back is mostly open so people can look inside: And there are lights, as you can see - pulsing/blinking in the warp nacelles, blinking position lights at the top of the P. A few more views: Schematic: Since Flickr has problems today, I uploaded all 40 photos here to my blog (where you can also click to zoom and browse through them - no per-picture comments, though). Hope you like it...

Lego city - Where to place Apocalipseburg?

I'd say by the water instead of the small house with the bright red roof, as close to the tracks as possible. And maybe move the medieval house to the other side of the tracks? Nice city, by the way. :)

    MOC: The Coral Hotel

    Another amazing building indeed ?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Maybe. It's sometimes odd, I think, how some new stuff gets used early in just a single set before a wider use in several sets months later: The teal color returned with the Diner before being used mostly in Elves sets; Coral didn't get the same Modular treatment, but was used in the TLM2 party bus (and a CMF) before the upcoming summer Friends sets. But the Garage hat that new turntable base before any other set. Now this new 3-wide window only in the HP bus and no other set as far as I could see in the available images... so yeah, maybe it will be in wider use in early 2020.

    [MOC] SPACEship

Apart from the thin exterior stuff like antennas, it's quite sturdy thanks to its Technic frame.

    [MOC] SPACEship

Thanks, everyone! Yes, it will be at BB2019.

    [MOC] SPACEship

Thanks again! Yes, with the red pin fitting in the protruding hole on the small L-liftarm. Which also saves space when I'll put the modules in a box for transport. And yes, it's modular: SP, A with 8 studs of the C, top and bottom of the C, and the E are the modules.

Thanks again! A Flickr album is available now, too.

    [MOC] SPACEship

Thanks again! It's about 111cm long (including antennas), 46cm wide and 40cm tall.

    [MOC] SPACEship

Thanks! There should be 1001 of the blue 2x2 curved slopes (minus the one that's missing at the bottom front), but other than that, feel free to guess. :)

    Ideas for building this sign?

At that size, I'd use 1x4 plate & tile vertically, i.e. a 1x4 plate with a 1x4 jumper in the middle and 1x1 tiles at the end for one line of the X, and a 1x4 tile at the desired angle on top of the jumper. Doesn't provide a flat front for the full X, but may be good enough...

To light or not to light up your layout?

One of our LUG members has a neat and flexible system for lighting his layout, also on shows: On the table, he puts a plastic tablecloth with adhesive copper strips at defined positions, which provide power to the baseplates with buildings he puts on top; these baseplates have that copper tape on the bottom, wrapping around to the top and into the buildings. (Luckily, LEDs don't use much power...) I myself haven't lit my full layout, and probably won't due to its size and often non-standard building placements, but I have used such a tape for lighting my Grand Palace Hotel (as well as a spaceship I'm currently building). To connect floors, put the copper tape on top of the tiled walls and on the bottom of the upper floor (maybe with a thick insulating tape between plate and copper tape so the gaps in the plate's bottom don't mess with the copper tape). Multiple layers of copper tape or insulating tape underneath may improve the contact especially when the upper floor isn't heavy. And it probably won't work with a thin, lightweight roof. The copper tape is thin enough to put between bricks or plates, and when you use a 3mm wide version, it fits between studs, so you can hide it between (base)plate and floor tiles. If you get one with conductive adhesive side (don't know if that's standard, I made sure the seller explicitly mentioned it), you can easily connect sections of it, overlapping a few centimeters. Or even connect thin cables leading to LEDs (which cou can also buy complete with wire and resistor, by the way) between two layers of copper tape - one example (even including resistors) from my spaceship:
  14. If you let Google translate the French Amazon page to German, yes, it says "Raumfahrt". But in the line listing "educational values"! A translation of that line on Google's dedicated translation site results in a better "räumliches Denken, Kreativität, Beweglichkeit" = "Spatial Reasoning, Creativity, Agility". So back to guessing without theme restrictions, then. :) I would certainly like a steam engine (even though I got Emerald Night)...

Fairground Sets - Rumours and Discussion

There was a Discovery theme with space mission sets in 2003 - with a Discovery Channel branding. Would be strange to return after all those years, but since there are said to be space sets in City in the summer, why not? Doesn't have to be a Discovery Channel thing, simply called Discovery, anyway.

    10264 Corner Garage

Here's the result of my facade with roof & gable mod: Typical back side for my facades:

    10264 Corner Garage

I agree, those parts of the build weren't that convenient, but worked out well in the end. And overall, I do like it more than when I first saw the images, though that "wow" is still lacking. (Yes, I got impatient and bought it first day (i.e. Jan 2 in Germany)...) As far as modding is concerned, well, I intend to put it in a row with my Brick Store and Modulex facades, so I'll reduce the Corner Garage to a flat facade (thereby also hiding the unsightly grey parts in the gaps) and add a steep roof, probably with a nice gable on one side, adding a bit more Gründerzeit flair. Should go quite well with these other facades.

    MOC - Train Control Station

A very nice build indeed. But the track is too close to the building - the next train will cut off the 9 3/4 sign, and the doors should only be opened when there's no traffic either...

    10264 Corner Garage

First impression: Well, it's nice, they did a good job integrating the gas pump, but somehow that modular "wow" factor is lacking for me... yet? We'll see...

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

It should be set in a similar timeframe as the Diner, at least not much later. And then they can just say "see, this non-green fuel is a thing of the past"...

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

The Ambassador on Doctor-Brick.de has already confirmed that the Ambassadors have been informed (and are allowed to share) that the new Modular 1ß264 will be announced on Monday 15:00 CET. They have not been told any more details, though.

2019 Friends Sets - Rumors and Discussion

That's a new 3x3 corner plate on top of the horse show set (white, holding the golden horseshoe), isn't it? Anyway, some nice sets and a little less color clashing this time...

Survey: New parts and new colors

Looks like salmon is indeed back. Compared to the pinks in the picture without the box (Brickset), I'd say it's certainly none of the existing pinks.
