Is it possible to determine type of flame retardants used in bricks experimentally? To understand if new bricks are affected by same yellowing issues like the old ones.

IKEA is alreadu producing lots of things that can be used for LEGO hobby. Recently noticed cool IKEA BEGÃ…VNING that could fit smaller MOCs in fashionable way dust free case. There are two sizes, but the smaller one might not be suitable. IKEA SYNAS is also dust free case of a slightly larger size and boxy shape. It has LED lights also.

Guys, thanks! @LegoModularFan Thanks for posting these MOCs, they look great. Especially all the details/greebling However I find these not being an exact copy, but rather just close enough. Like having 4 windows instead of 5 for example. My intention was to build a copy in minifigure/Modular scale. This resulted in some proportion alterations. And if it wouldn't fit well into 32 or 48 studs I wouldn't probably build it at all. It is missing just 2-3 studs to be have better proportions. The cool thing about this MOC - not looking to disassemble it at any time soon (or anytime at all). So it might get modified further when new ideas or parts come. I'm really surprised there are lots of notes about colour. I think this is because house hasn't been maintained, which resulted in lots of dust, mold and whatever there could be else on entire building. Photo might distort the colours too. Like the "tan" elements are actually cement like, so their presentation in LBG is correct. I agree about the roof though - checked local LEGO shop's PAB wall, which has cheese slopes in black at the moment. So no changes here for a now.

Estimating volume of Lego bricks for storage of large collection.
zux replied to Donald's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Bricklink has box sizes. You can take this and multiply by 0.5-0.75, which is usually taken by bricks.- 10 replies

I think it would be better to be done the other way around, where TLG adopt Bricklink's (or better name it call it community) colour naming standard, as it is much more clear. TLG has quite vague names to be honest. Do you know what "light reddish violet" [TLG] colour is? Pink!

Technic 2018 Set Discussion

The light for 42079 model presentation looks a bit tricky. From it looks like the model might have parts in Bright Light Orange instead of Yellow. I hope I'm wrong! -
Opinions on LEGO Technic Theme
zux replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This. I think the reason behind the love and hate are simply money. Sets are getting bigger, with larger piece counts, which means the price is rising too. Remember when flagship sets cost about 200 euro or less? These have the same functions we are offered with newer sets. You still get new parts with smaller flagships. B-model is also available. And it didn't require instructions weighting 1.5 Kg to build a single model. While I really like some new parts than could have been only introduced with the size of Porsche and Chiron, I think these would do good as well if they were smaller. -
I have a few items to raise: PF allows you to attach multiple elements (motors and lights) to the same power source simply by stacking their connections. This allows building monsters such this Feller-Buncher, which has 8 elements stacked (there are more with lower elements stacked, but this is the most). New system has a different type of connector, which by design doesn't allow stacking. Introduced systems, might work well with Wedo, Boost and Trains since they do not require many elements to be connected to the same power source. However this system may not be suitable with Technic, where 2 ports are far from being enough. Given the unique connector, the option of 4 connectors would look insufficient in the world of Technic (which can be used by lights alone, not speaking about motors). In short - how can we make multiple elements to be used with PowerUp? Each new system brought a compatibility with older system in a form of cable adapters. How can we attach and control existing PF elements with PowerUp? Motors used for PowerUp system look to be similar to PF ones. Are there any improvements of similar type motors compared with PF? How did power consumption changed since switching from Infrared to Bluetooth? We had micromotors at some point in past and there haven't been any real alternatives since then. Will there be a motor of smaller than M-Motor size we have now? Same with so called "RC motor". These were the most powerfull motors LEGO has ever produced. They are quite power hungry and LEGO battery boxes couldn't deliver the full potential of these. Will there be a compatibility option with older 9V system? Will there be a new more powerful motors we have now with PF system? How good are new power boxes/control units in terms of higher load required by RC motors? Is it possible to control Mindstorm motors with new system? I might add a few more if think of something else.

Yeah, the left most "tower" is little narrow compared to original. This is because MOC has been built to fit the standard 32 stud baseplate. It wouldn't be possible to build entire face in desired proportion without sacrificing other (existing features). Woah, that's a lot of feedback, which I miss most of the time with my MOCs. Thanks for time it took you to type all of this! Colours are hard indeed. I'm still a bit on the edge if I should have opted for dark orange instead, but in reality original house isn't very close to dark orange either. It is mixture between both dark orange and dark red. On the other hand there aren't some essential parts in dark orange for the facade. Other colours didn't match as good as these two. Ah, the roof! I wish I lived several decades earlier to observe this house in a better shape. It has been for sale for several years now and has been maintained for quite some time. Under the layer of mold and oxidation roof might be be actually closer to dark orange, than any shade of brown. I wonder if it would look better built with black cheese slopes? That's the only colour I have sufficient enough to cover entire top until I get to find some other colours in PAB.

I doubt it is going to be Technic model - as you mentioned, Chiron has just been released and 2HY sets are around the corner. So it must be something else. People speculate it is going to be new Creator Expert vehicle. -
I while ago I've posted my first modulars here on EB. Time passed and this resulted in getting more interest in this kind of MOCs (previously I've been building Technic only). Initial three modulars have been built in quite short period of time for me. This didn't allow perfecting them as I would wish. And quite an investment in bricks (as it latter turned out). My Office modular has been rebuilt several times and even got highlighted to be an inspirational build. This might deserve a separate topic. However I was always fond of another modular I didn't build up to desired level. I mean a house in Vilnius I like a lot. Initially it was constructed to be just close enough. Fortunately my LUGBLUK order came some time last year and with some free time and few more BL orders I got to rebuild almost entire modular. I might get some details updated as new parts become available, but I consider it is in final state now. Fun facts: Facade is built from plates, to remind the tiles found on original building. Roof contains more than 900 cheese slopes! Grass is also built with cheese slopes. There are couple of elements placed with 0.25 stud offset, which a pain to figure out. Story of an original building taken from openhousevilnius.lt: Original house has been built in 1911-1913 in a group of other 22 building, which were terraced into three groups of townhouses to form a perimeter block. The concept for the construction of townhouses – called colonies – was an unprecedented phenomenon in Lithuania that was ahead of its time; its emergence was prompted by the prominent social activist, philanthropist and director of the Land Bank, Juozapas Montvila (Józef Montwiłł). With this project, Montvila aspired to further promote the living environment reform that he had conceived: fully designing and building a closed townhouse community with an internal garden – a refuge from the turmoil of the world. This is how the goal of promoting cost-effective construction techniques without impinging on housing comfort and aesthetics was carried out. Having miraculously survived two World Wars, escaped oblivion, and accumulated a noble historical memory inside it, the site is one of the most interesting examples of rethinking the idea of residential housing to this day. This Art Nouveau pearl tucked away in the very heart of the city. This Flickr folder includes some older version pics.

So you are looking to borrow some parts from Lepin copy. Why bother building a model with a mixture of both LEGO and Lepin then? What kind of blasphemy is this?- 5,507 replies

LDD has been abandoned for quite a while. Last time I heard it getting new parts it was for either WeDo or Boost, but nothing else AFAIK. I wouldn't put much hopes into getting new parts. I suggest looking into alternatives (LDraw based). -
Great review! There's a dedicated topic on Technic subforum discussing Powered Up (or Power Functions 2.0) system. I find new system a bit odd, without any advantages viewing this as a Technic builder. How was your overall experience using PF2 comparing with 9V and PF systems?

McLaren Senna is questionable it terms of exterior, not to to mention it would be nightmare to build in Technic. There are some good suggestions (Bentley, G63 6x6 for example), but damn not Lamborghini please. These look all the same for past few generations - read as "not appealing". I cannot even distinguish which one is which when I see it.

@letsbuild I've noticed lately, a lot of people are getting into "LEGO investing" recently as well as latest sets don't usually get expensive after end of production as they used to do before. These might be related. My suggestion would be to hold from getting into this instantly but rather learn the market - see how BL, local market and ads respond to discontinued set prices, learn the market. Once you feel what is required (when to sell, how long to keep, is it wort it) you could then look into actual investment. -
@Bublehead smartphone/table or everything that is using touch screen is a disadvantage for a very simple reason - no touch feedback. Combining Mindstorn, WeDo, Boost, Trains & Technic into a single system, might seem reasonable, but usually unifying results in lack of features and lots of compromises for each system. We have to wait what PF2 is going to bring for Technic. However at this moment I see no benefit of switching my Trains and Technic stuff to PF2. @Mr Hobbles Could you share pictures of polybags you've got?

Even if LEGO would have released this part in Trans-clear colour I doubt you would be able to see through it as you probably wish. Recently LEGO produced another panel in Tran-clear, but it is not entirely clear, but rather have a foggy plastic.
