General Part Discussion
zux replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It is because in early days LEGO didn't share the colour names, thus community came up with their own names. To be honest, I prefer names created by community as they are far easier to remember as relate to actual colour.- 5,509 replies

Great implementation. I was thinking if this kind of constructions is possible for a while. Thanks for confirming it actually can be done in LEGO.- 14 replies

Technic 2018 Set Discussion

Reading last page almost gave me a heart attack - I had thought someone got to trademark my nickname! Phew, close call. Sorry, for off topic, couldn't pass. -
TV tower built in capital of Lithuania - Vilnius, is the tallest structure in country measuring 326.5 m (1,071 ft). The construction of the tower started on 31 May 1974 and finished on December 30, 1980. The observation deck 165 m (541 ft) from the ground houses the cafe "Paukščių takas" (English: Milky Way), offers a picturesque view of the city and its surroundings, and sports a rotating platform that revolves once every 45 minutes. High-speed elevators reach the cafe from ground level in 40 seconds. On clear days, visibility can extend as far as Elektrėnai, a city approximately 40 km (25 mi) west. Text source - Wikipedia This is my first MOC in Architecture-like style, so it took me a while to figure out the right brick combinations for better looks. Round tile 8 x 8 and same sized dish determined the scale of entire creation. I'm surprised how stable the final model is - the core is build is several larger parts which are held by simple clutch force - MOC can be handled without risk of immediate collapse. There are two parts of the MOC I'm particularly proud of. First one is the structure in the middle - the one, that makes tapered cone. Three layers of SNOT bricks extend the outer ring by half a plate (1 module) from each side. And it is surprisingly rigid! Next one is the bottom part, which makes a round building at the base. More squarish shape was expected to be created, but it ended up in almost perfect circle. Picture explains it all: MOC stats: Height 565mm Scale ~ 1:580

42083 - Bugatti Chiron
zux replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The wheels is the only thing I'm liking at the moment. Engine heads look crude. 3600 part? Meh, the ever increasing number of part is no longer impressive as it usually just the reason to raise the price. For the price tag of 350EUR+ it better be good technically rather than in looks. And should use common colours obviously, not some light-pearl-bluish-purple. -
The only picture of stage 7 contents I found is here. But you can't see all the pieces. The best way of finding the missing pieces would be, I think, to follow the instructions and make a note of required parts.

Wow, some great engineering was done here. At some point I thought Mindstorms has been involved. The only thing I wish to see it running a bit more smoothly, but it might not be so easy I believe. Ha, that's very common situation, for me at least, especially getting stuck in the middle of the design process.

Maybe some part from these would work? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=41672#T=C https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=44136#T=C https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=44135#T=C- 5,509 replies

Not really which part of your creation is shown on the picture with bricks going apart. But I'm surprised you've build bricks on top of each other with an overlay, which would interlock them and would allow vertical displacement so easily. Technic bricks are very good for making sturdy construction if you do it the right way. Sadly I cannot suggest you better construction, as I don't really understand the point which is being stressed.

On the Future of Power Functions
zux replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It is an older generation that would like to have gamepad-like controllers because we all know dragging your finger over smooth surface gives zero feedback. Kids would prefer fancy touchscreen. Anyway, gamepad-like controller is unlikely for BT based setup, purely due to the way how it works. -
Non-availability of Lego products in the UK
zux replied to Paulbricks's topic in General LEGO Discussion
While I'm not based in UK, I could only provide generic suggestion. I've used UK Amazon couple of times - it had the lowest price for the sets I've needed. Have you tried using LEGO won online shop? Some set tend to have limited distribution, thus not available in all stores. Shopping online helps. Bricklink sometimes has quite a good offers. Being a member of local LUG helps stocking up on some parts (tacks) in high quantities sometimes. -
What is "thick baseplate"? Topic name should probably be changed to "plates vs. large bricks".

Bricks cracking... just from being connected to one another?
zux replied to Endgame's topic in General LEGO Discussion
OMG, what have you been doing to all these poor parts? I have Technic pieces with cracks myself. Can't imagine how you managed to split the 3L pin... -

LEGO used to release sets for outdoor - 8369, 8675. Both controlled remotely and with plenty of speed. -

Nice find on Boba Fett's parts! However I'm a bit sceptical on Darth Vader black bushes(I'd love to get them though). Your second picture might suggest part similar to this was used. Introduction of Bright Light Orange coloured Technic pieces that weren't introduced in generic Yellow yet is a bummer.- 5,509 replies

Your statement doesn't contradict mine. The overall idea is that you have time next year (let's say model released in 2016, so you have time in 2017) to buy a set without major issues, high markup or lack of availability. Further down it is not guaranteed. This also slightly differs between the markets.

Technic models usually retire year after they were introduced.

Super Snow Speeder (WIP)

Great lightweight model! Reminds me of my tracked vehicle I did some time ago. Although I tried keeping motors as high as possible, to withstand the actual snow conditions. -

Not really - its side quarters (the piece between doors and rear wheels) are stationary, unlike 42077 has.
