  1. You might want to use jumper plates to substitute top and bottom "plates with door rails". But I like existing setup, it looks sturdy. Another option is to play around in a similar fashion I did here:
  2. Yes, getting some sets is great for start. You can build your collection of major parts quite quickly. But if you need specific part you can get it on Bricklink and don't need to buy whole set just to acquire that piece. However it is sometimes cheaper to buy the whole set.
  3. Well, if you call this an epic fail, I cannot imagine how should we call 42082 designed by TLG... Anyway, it looks brutal and full of functions. I understand you planned to cram few more, but it is already impressive what you have done with this implementation. btw. your WIP topic is here ;)
  4. I'm not good at LEGO trains yet, but found this information a while ago ago and it might be helpful: BlueBrick Track Schematic Library v.1.1 Update by Michael Gale, on Flickr
  5. 42077 has 1005 parts (vs. 1003 in 42080) ant cost 99.99€. So by removing PF and pneumatics could result in same pricing. That would be 1k pieces for 100€ is more or less 0.10€ PPP.
  6. Yes, this is a thing. However I like to call such sets as "backlog". Something I have purchased for parts or other reasons (not for resale), but don't need the parts or sets to be assembled yet. Some time this is purely for collection reasons - I just need to have it now, because later it is going to cost a lot. At some point I've asked myself how many of such sets do I have. Well, I was pretty surprised there were more than 20 at that time.
  7. Remove all pneumatics and PF stuff and you'd get your standard <0.10 price per piece.
  8. I suppose there are two Technic beams in Green in the back. What are the lengths please?
  9. You can find more details on safe lubricants in recently started topic in Technic subforum. Speaking about "exploding parts" it is quite familiar thing with high torque applications. It would be wise to design high torque being applied on the very small set of driving elements (gears, drive shafts) of your suspension. CV joints are known to popup from hubs and universal joints break under high torque. So keep that in mind. There are certain workarounds for such cases.
  10. Well, I find this kind of thinking to be odd. Don't we all want to save more money to buy more stuff? Obviously, if you have no questions raised regarding recent TLG pricing strategy your opponent could even send money to TLG to support it (similarly like people donating money to get some Kardashian even more rich, doh!) if he fills they aren't doing well. But it isn't a healthy thing to do. It would have been much better to buy required LEGO stuff at cheapest available price and donate the difference with RRP to a charity. Company will make its money anyway.
  11. Building small scale Star Destroyer from Technic is quite a challenge on its own. Making it a C-model is amazing!
  12. But bring couple of never seen before parts in generic (Green) colour. So thumbs up for that!
  13. Yes, for example, 8455 set contains a all pneumatic tubing uncut and suggest you do cut to the size (shown in instructions). This leaves you with some spare tubing as provided one is little longer. Everything came from LEGO set, so is considered purist! Since TLG doesn't produce pneumatic tubing some people consider a purist solution to cut them to required size or use 3rd party ones. @Blondie-Wan Some Clickits work with other System/City bricks like the rest of LEGO. Don't see why these should be excluded.
  14. Thanks for raising this question. This is something I was wondering myself for quite some time. My idea was to use some odd colour for all internal parts intentionally making then wrong/unavailable on Rebrickable. I was thinking of purple to be a good candidate. However now that you mention I wonder if you are making instructions based on LDD or LDraw model? I've seen instruction of LDraw based model have an option to highlight parts used in current step. This would mean you don't need colour coding the internal parts.
  15. Ok, there was a little misunderstanding - your structure has more than 4 liftarms. It looks sturdy enough to be kept for far more than few days.
  16. Just 4 liftarms? Your model seems to be quite big, so I would assume it has quite sturdy frame and 4 liftarms doesn't sound like enough for this. I would be more concerned about the lack of proper frame than the strength of liftarms. Do you have picture of your internals?
  17. Why do you need to glue anything in order to attach tracks to table? These have holes and I always thought these have been designed with intention to screw tracks to the base. Or am I missing something?
  18. It seems like boiler is just some round bricks covered in vinyl. You can see this here. There are bumps in places you would expect round bricks to have space for studs.
  19. This happened to me multiple times while designing Technic chassis for a MOC. Lost interest in building a body around it and decided not to waste effort by doing instructions. Had to think a lot and eventually found a way of building model the usual way without need to stress any parts. I think it is possible to find such assembly procedure, you just need to give it more time to think how another person would be building this for the first time.
  20. Sets are good for general collection growth. If you need any particular pieces - use Bricklink.
  21. General practise - build modern sets and other people's MOCs. There's no such thing as taking course to learn something new, so it would be much easier to learn from building. You can challenge yourself also. Try building something new, especially a replica, of something you like. You'll quickly get stuck where standard (known) solutions don't work, so you have to figure out something. That's the way I do it. 22. @Ngoc Nguyen So, what's your question/issue here? Incorrect BL catalog entry? Btw. TLG name for this string is "String 30M W. 2 Knobs"
  23. While I love new parts or recolours I can only thank TLG for not releasing then in 2H sets. Trying to keep up the pace and not spend a fortune on new parts I still have few of them to collect from 2015 & 2016 releases.
  24. This might be required when you order pieces from S@H service webpage or calling them.
