  1. The last set I got before my dark ages was the 8868, and that ranks as one of my favourite sets, obviously:-) Of the later sets, I too must say the 8109 hits all the right spots! It's beautifully designed, and the functions are truly brilliant! Also 8455 is absolutely perfect! As for favourite of the ones I've never gotten my hands on,I would have to say Control Centre II for studded and the crawler crane for studless
  2. I don't know if you have any experience, but that is actually pretty much how guns are in real life. As an example, loading a 30 round magazine for your typical M4/M16 rifle by hand, is both time consuming and hard on your fingers. Not having any experience with rotary rapid fire weaponry, I can only assume that the time spent loading and preparing, is fairly long compared to the time spent shooting
  3. Pretty clever mechanism! A little dissapointed that there wasn't any live target testing, seeing as you seem to a lot of them
  4. If only the middle wheel is driven, you could also, with as powerful motor, have ridiculous acceleration compared to normal bikes I would assume.. As you don't have to worry about flipping it/do a wheelie
  5. Thanks a lot! The seat is actually supposed to be the construction behid the RC Unit, the Unit itself is supposed to be something of a gas tank or motor housing.. I really am not very sure how snowmobiles are made up But due to the size (width) of the RC unit, this was the only logical place to put it. As for the steering, I'm pretty sure I have at least 5 universal joints! But it's like TwentyLeggedHen says: Thanks to you to, and you are spot on! The RC Steering Assembly has two inputs, one in the front, and one in the back, which are both connected to the steering rack. So when the rear one is driven from the RC Unit, the front one turns along with it. Due to very limited space width-wise, as well as some weird angles for gears (The entire suspension assy is mounted horisontally, and the steering unit is at an angle along with the rest of the chassis), I found this the most space saving solution. It can definitely not handle a lot of torque, but it doesn't need to, as it's only for turning the handlebars, and it works splendidly
  6. An order of mine used almost three weeks just to clear customs! But that's Norway.. An order of mine used almost three weeks just to clear customs! But that's Norway..
  7. I am in the finishing stages of aking a snowmobile MOC, and thought I'd show the current state of things before I go on holiday, and won't be able to build. I will however bring the model with me, to hopefully shoot a video of it performing on snow It is powered by two RC Buggy motors, through the standard RC Receiver Unit (Gives some range, compared to IR PF RC). It features double wishbone suspension on the skis, and they are steered through the RC Steering Unit. The entire belt/track has a BIG spring for suspension. The belt is driven by the two RC motors directly onto a large sprocket wheel. In it's current configuration it is set on the innermost (fastest) output of the motors, but it is built so that it can be changed fairly easily. I haven't tried this configuration yet, but the "slow" output propelled it nicely along the carpet, and given that the coefficient of friction between smoth plastic and snow is close to zero, I'm not worried. The skis are three studs wide, and made with an upside-down technic brick with tiles on top (bottom), to provide better steering. The skis are also sprung to keep them from digging into the snow, as well as give some flex when driving over obstacles. The steering features ackerman geometry, but that is more du to the available pieces used for suspension/steering, than an actual necessity The steering hadlebars are moved from the front output/input of the RC steering unit, through a lot of U-joints Hey, it works I fitted two 5x11 panels directly under the Receiver Unit, to prevent snow from entering the battery compartment.. (I might have to do something about the motors themselves as well...) There are some more pictures, as well as some VERY high resolution (finally got myself to buying a (cheap) lens for my EOS 50D) versions of the ones I've shown here at my Bricksafe for those interested. Now, I just hope there is some snow in my parents' garden when I get home for Christmas holiday!
  8. Nice! What did you do to get that?:-)
  9. For some reason I really miss the Lego plastic bags of the old days .. I have no idea when they went away from those, but I imagine it's quite long ago... You know; the perforated ones, which felt so special to the touch, and made a unique sound when you shook it, or poured the parts onto the table... I haven't seen one of those in 20 years
  10. I don't remember if I put in a note explaining which differential goes which way, so there might be a mistake in the instructions.. If things turn out wrong, I imagine it is easier to fix the rear one, as there is a lot of bracing in the front, while in the back the entire axle assy can just be turned around front to back:-) Hope you like it!;-)
  11. I just won an auction for a new 8434 Aircraft for just 150,- NOK (less than 20 Euro), and from what I've read, the model itself is useless. It does have some nice parts in rare colours though.. -2 x 20z single bevel gears in LBG -38 x long friction pins in black -8 x pulley wheels in black -Some nice liftarms and panels in Pearl Dark Gray -A damped shock absorber/spring Overall, for the price, I am happy=)
  12. One thing I've learned, is that black parts are truly black in two cases: Low quality photos and building instructions made with LDraw. For this reason, I try to make things less black, especially if I plan to make instructions for it. The main problem there is to differentiate between black pins and axles, and beams. It is pretty annoying to spend a long time looking for the placement of a pin, when the chassis could just as well have been another colour, and you would have seen it immediately All that being said, for some models you simply can't beat black when it comes to the overall look (Recent case in point: the blackified 9396 helicopter)
  13. Where was this? It seems ToysRUs in Norway has it at 30% discount now as well, at least online, so I am actually concidering taking a trip to the store come week end, to check it out.. I have some gift cards at TRU, and was planning on using them to buy the cargo plane over new years, but 30% off seems like a pretty good deal
  14. Very Special Operations! love it!
  15. Haha, when I opened the Bricksafe folder, the first thing I saw was that big robot, that just so happened to have the same color scheme as the SL Gabon!! I started wondering if the model was visited by that Transformers-thing (spark?), and had taken on a life of it's own This model is absolutely stunning, can't wait to see which boat you will do next! Have you concidered the X-bow design by Ulstein ?
  16. This looks great! Especially like the stickers! Mine will be a lot heavier due to lack of LiPo, but on the plus side it will have two motors and the added range of radio control!
  17. Congratulations to the winner and runner ups! Great contest!
  18. I finished the Formula 1 car, and it worked very well, using only CV joints connected directly to the wheels. It is now dismantled, and tonight I started conceptualizing my next project, which is a bit more winter-y Just a work in progress, to check necessary dimensions and general layout options for the electric components
  19. What? Are there really people who are willing to dish out that much for a - to be honest - quite simple model? Don't get me wrong, I do like the model , but.. seriously??
  20. I haven't bought any of the new sets, and it's been a long long time since I last bought a set (mainly just been buying parts off of Bricklink). However, the few I purchased earlier this year were 8455 8109 8420 8297 9395
  21. Absolutely love it! Although the engines are a bit large for this scale, I still like the use of the rims to make them! Sorta looks like a cross between a UH-1 and an AH-1 !
  22. On orders from the NSA maybe.. Anyway, I found the topic, here, if you want to see my progress over a year, Gee
  23. Personally, I vote for a two month aviation themed thing.. Not necessarily a contest, as there would have to be many rules, but more like a "make anything aviation based, and show it to the masses!" Anything from a small hang glider built out of axles and connectors, to huge helicopters and aircraft from the last 100 years:-)
