42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
D3K replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The disks look great! Could couple them with a black rim to get the impression of a bigger tire/rim ratio How are the colours coming out of shapeways? Will they be able to make a Lego Yellow? -
Selling copied MOCs
D3K replied to Pat-Ard's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I remember a guy selling his Technic collection on Norwegian auction site finn.no, and amongst all the official sets he was selling, there was also Barman's V8, Han's 10x4 truck, hauler, 8421XL, Crowkillers' Vampire GT and several others. But he stated the original builder, and even said that instructions would have to be bought (where they weren't free) from for example Crowkillers. IMO, selling other peoples MOCs like that, is just like selling official sets second hand. In other words, when you do it like that, giving credit where credit is due, and even telling people they need to pay the creator, that's 100 % OK in my eyes -

Efferman's Custom Parts

I remember that being a problem with Pro/Engineer and Creo Parametric as well, where I couldn't take a model from my laptop (pirated software) to the desktop I used at school... These are very expensive programs, so I see why they might place piracey protection measures all over the place. -

This is truly a great looking model! For some reason, the F40 is amongst my favourite cars ever! -
42028 Bulldozer Replica by D3K
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
O...K ? But thanks! And no, not really, it was done quite fast I know it looks a bit messy, but in actuality I think that is mostly due to bad lighting/photos. It looks way better IRL The pneumatics improves the playability of the set IMO.. But I'm pretty sure you can't fit a compressor and AAA batterybox in there... At least not without sacrifising the V4 engine. Also, the pneumatic tubing takes up quite a lot of space Looks great! -

Looking forward to seeing some progress! If you keep it light, the proposed 4x L-motors will probably be able to give it quite some speed!- 7 replies

42028 Bulldozer Replica by D3K
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks! It is definitely sufficient function wise, as dozers don't really have that many functions. Except maybe the Komatsu D575 monstrosity that jorgeopesi made! I'm just not a fan of the wormdrive-gear-lever way of doing things LDD says 596 parts I know you do! But anyhow, seeing as I found the functions of the model to be a bit boring, I set about making an "Enhanced Replica" (like efferman did with the 42030) of the 42028. This is the result (modded in less than an hour I think..): I like this better, and I would have hoped TLG had made it this way out of the box (maybe without the blade tilt (small) cylinders) -

Spare Parts - eBay?
D3K replied to ArcspacE's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Alternately you could buy parts from Lego directly. That way you are guaranteed brand new pieces. Prices on many parts are also lower there, but then again, they don't have older parts that you will find on bricklink. I use both services, and have only good experiences from both! -
From the various videos that have popped up lately, I was able to recreate the coming model 42028 Bulldozer in LDD, and today in real bricks. This is the model from the video: And this is my recreation of that model: I used maybe 4 hours on the LDD model, and today used roughly 1,5 hours to build it in real bricks. Blade and ripper in uppermost position: ...and lowermost position: Underside: Front: Back: As you might see from the pictures, I forgot to attach the 1x6 yellow half beams that support the plade onb either side, and I had to substitute minor some parts as I didn't have them in the correct colour and/or quantity. Some impressions: Firstly, I enjoyed the build, and overall, I like the model for what it is. The functions of lifting and lowering the blade and ripper work smoothly and quickly (both geared 1:8), by turning the smokestack in the front, and the 12 tooth double bevel gear in the back. On the other hand, there is quite a bit of resistance in the driveline, so you can forget about having the treads move if pushing it along a panelled floor. Works OK on a carpet though, and I like that they used a differential, and not just hook the fake engine to one of the sides. It is also worth to note that the build is surprisingly solid, given that the entire upper assembly isn't attached to the tracks assembly at any points in front of the rear of the engine (if that makes sense: Picture to show what I mean (red circles show the points where they are attached): Lastly some pictures to give a size impression (had to use the only thing I had assembled.. The wheels are Unimog type): If you want to build it yourself, here is the updated LDD file

[MOD] 42008 with Power Functions
D3K replied to arachnid's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good choice! And great mod! Also, the black wheels look a lot better than the original ones! -
I don't mean to hijack the topic, will make a separate one when I've built it in real bricks.. I think I found the solution to the unexplained gears: Since the axle connection point for the crank shaft is 1/2 stud inside the engine, it has to be done this way. A 6L axle directly from the engine to the diff 20 tooth gear would interfere with the differential itself. A 5L axle would only sit halfway in to the 20 tooth gear. Using a 5,5L axle with stop, like I originally did, would require forcing it (ever so slightly) into place in the 5 x 7 frame. This also explains the 3L pin with pin hole in the rear, that you can see in the films. **updated LDD file**
-
Thanks! Yeah, at first I thought the engine was two studs lower than the differential, and that was the cause of the 16 tooth gears, but that is not the case... Mystery... Because there is definately two 16tooth gears there.. And the 20 tooth bevel gear behind the diff..? No clue.. If it is intentional, than the only use I can think of is for a PTO in the rear, but that makes little sense. Probably a miss from the builder, like you suggest. Maybe TLG is planning to finally release a PF-S motor, along with an XS rechargeable LiPo battery? One can only hope That actually makes a lot of sense! Of course! Four of them, side by side! Thanks a lot! Will update have updated the LDD file !

Made this yesterday I think it's close to 99% accurate, the only thing I wasn't sure about was the front grille, and some bracing just below the engine (I used two grey 3x3 T-beams, but it doesn't look like that's what TLG did). Measures in at just over 600 parts total. Will build it in bricks come friday, and post some pictures and impressions.

Trade Micro Motors for Pneumatic Cylinder brackets?
D3K posted a topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Hi! I have a lot of Micro motors that I really do not use, so I was wondering if anyone would like to trade some of them for pneumatic cylinder brackets? The motors are practically new, and come with both upper and lower covers and the pulley wheel. I was thinking one complete motor (that is 1x + 1x + 1x + 1x ) traded for a set of two cylinder brackets (2x ) Shoot me a PM if you are interested, or there is something else you really want to trade some cylinder brackets for -
Efferman's Custom Parts
D3K replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That is pretty damn brilliant actually! -
Thanks! Hope to get in some good hours this weekend! Nah, go ahead, I can't guarantee this turns out better Also, a lot of the parts will be present in both models I think, at least the important ones (except this new one uses + 1 servo motor and - 1 M-motor and 2 small LAs... If i get around to making instructions for the finished model, it won't be anytime soon either, so go ahead and enjoy the Mk II in the meantime

New year, new things to build I wanted to make a small/medium sized mobile crane using the wheels and tires from the new garbage truck 42024, but building small is a bigger challenge than I thought! As it stands now, it is still a work in progress, and I am not sure if I'll finish it or not.. But I've never built a mobile crane MOC before, so hopefully it'll come along eventually.. So far I have only built the chassis in real bricks, and just started to make the superstructure in LDD, as you can see: It has 6 wheel steering, and a V8 driven from the 3rd axle (similar setup to 8421 I think...). The outriggers are pneumatic, and the switch is in the rear, just above the HOG steering. The pneumatic pump pivots up 90 degrees so one can use it, then tucks down nicely beside the engine, as it is in the picture. Air tank in the front lets you have a pressure reserve. A couple of days ago, I started yet another project, and unfortunately this takes presedence over the Crane. I present to you THE SWINGLOADER MARK III ! This time it is something a little different, based off the Mecalac AS210E.. The biggest difference lies in the fact this is not an articulated machine, but rather has four wheel steering.. This apparently makes for a more stabile loader, when swinging your load to the sides Also a WIP, and I have just ordered some more parts to continue the build Check out my bricksafe SwingLoader Mk III folder for some more LDD screenshots of the WIP. The actual brick model is coming along nicely, and has already got the boom and bucket assembly more or less figured out. EDIT: added direct link to bricksafe folder

Absolutely agree! By putting two cylinders in the front to lift the blade, and one in the back for the ripper, they would have made this quite boring set into something with way way more appeal! As it is now, you have the worm drive to 8 tooth gear solution both in the front and back, and that IMO is the most boring of ways to make something move...

[HELP] Steering

Thanks, that was my conclusion as well!
