It is a great thought, but in practice I don't think it would work.. It like Tech-nick says. The magnetic field of your standars magnet moves around it, from one pole to the other, as seen in this image Unfortunately it doesn't beam out positive (or negative) force in a straight line from either pole..

Truck, Loader and Conveyor-Thingy Here is my finished entry, so that people can quickly find it to have a look when the voting begins! This post is pretty much a direct copy from the entry topic. The idea is for the loader to be able to continue digging, filling up the conveyor thingy, while the truck drives off with it's load. Then, when it comes back, one can just switch on the conveyor, and it will fill the truck, all the while the loader keeps digging and loading. The basic idea of the models are: -a high factor of playability -utilizing the different types of mechanical solutions available in the LEGO Technic system. First, the conveyor: The motor you can see drives the main diagonal conveyor, geared down 1:24 for a smooth ride for the bricks. On the other side is a similar setup, but with a further 8:24 reduction to make the rubber tracks in the "trough" move at a slower speed, as to not overload the main conveyor. Misc techniques have been used to minimize the amount of pieces, like using long axles instead of multiple friction pins, etc etc. Solutions you would probably never see in an official set, but they serve their purpose here. Next is the truck: As you might notice, I reduced the height of the tipping bed compared to the pictures in my WIP topic, to reduce the part count. This had the added side effect of making the truck better looking IMO. The truck utilizes two separate pneumatic circuits, one old style, and one new style, intending to show two ways of accomplishing the same thing. It features: -Openable doors -Tilting cabin -Ackerman steering geometry, HOG steering -Lifting rear axle (small pneumatic cylinder) -Dumping bed (long, old style pneumatic actuator), with hatch -Inline-4 engine driven by differential from the 2nd axle Lastly, is the loader: Again, with playability in mind, there is no HOG steering. You push it around, hand placed on the rear. This also lets you operate the electric digging functions with the same hand, by manipulating the two exhaust pipes on the back, using two fingers. It features: -lifting boom from one L-motor placed vertically in the drivers cabin, and two LA's -tipping shovel from one M-motor placed in the front, and one LA -easily removable battery box (pulls out from the back)- 24 replies

Probably like most aircraft, with ailerons, rudders and such.. No, I think it is more or less like a normal car.. Read up on it on wikipedia, it is quite a fascinating feat of engineering! Notable numbers are [...a power-to-weight ratio of 631 brake horsepower per ton, and a drag coefficient of 0.35]

I switched through channels earlier this year, and came across a channel showing an American Le Mans Series race, I think it was LMP2 and GT3 classes in a multiclass race.. Anyway, there was this car racing, taken straight out of Batman: And it seemed to be winning!! The DeltaWing was something I had never heard of, but I was really fascinated! It seems like the design team just threw everything we know about cars out the window, and were told to make something as fast, light and aerodynamically efficient as possible, starting from scratch, and staying within the FIA rules for whatever event it was supposed to enter in. (Those rules, it would seem, wasn't much more than "it has to have four wheels") So I really want to make one of these some day!

Recently someone posted on finn.no (Norwegian sales site) a whole lot of sets at ridiculously low prices (8421 for 60 EUR, 8043 for 70 EUR, and a whole lot more). Naturally I was all over it in no time, and had almost sealed the deal on some of the sets, when the seller e-mails me and tells me he had to up the prices, due to a lot of people mailing and calling him, telling him he was selling it way too cheap, and thereby - and I quote - "ruined the value of LEGO by doing so"! Anyway, I ended up not buying the sets I initially wanted to buy

I like it, though technically it is not a "skid steer loader", as it actually has normal steering I especially like that you used the pneumatic actuators the way you did, making them retract to lift the digger

I've noticed you Philo are the modeller for several of these unofficial parts, can you tell me a little bit about the process of officializing? When I made two of my recent MOCs in MLcad, I experienced the same problem as Doc_Brown. And I was wondering why a part so commonly used, so old and so "fundamental" was not in the official parts list.. Do you know why it takes so long? -
I'm really curious about the b model of the plane! With that many panels, and a lack of wheel-vehicle parts, TLG really has a chance to rediscover their creative sides! Hoping for a very clever boat, submarine, or maybe even a space shuttle!:-D A sailing boat would be cool! But would have to include lots of string, so I'm guessing not...

New project! I am trying to make a Formula 1, or at least open wheeled, car in roughly the same size as the official Formula 1 cars from LEGO, but with the added awesomeness of RC Buggy Motors. I made a rear axle last week: I have never made push rod suspension before, so this one will have to be redesigned. Had waaay too much travel and was a little soft. The design is very solid, which was a little challenge, trying to keep it that narrow. Yesterday I made the front axle, based around the RC Buggy Steering Unit. Suspension here worked far better, so will try to implement a variant of this one in the revised rear axle. The RC BatteryBox/Receiver unit is placed as far up ahead as possible to hopefully reduce grip on rear tyres and induce some drift! I have absolutely no idea if this car will be too large/heavy for the motors to handle, but I am trying to make it as light as possible. More pictures in high def on my BrickSafe page
