Great build! I must also say I love the little sailing boat in your signature- 24 replies

I think both systems have their specific areas of use, and of course there is the matter of personal preference. While one might argue that pneumatics function more like real world hydraulic cyinders, LA's act more like them.. I love the pneumatics' ability to be placed nearly anywhere. I could have never built my Recovery Truck using LA's I think

Technic Hall of Fame Discussion

Edwin's boats are definitely worthy of Hall-of-Fameness! Personally I like the RPA 15 better though Maybe it's the colours? -
Technic Hall of Fame Discussion

I would propose a rephrase: The creator of the MOC should be a member of the forum! I just remembered there have been several occasions where someone have stumbled upon a truly outstanding MOC by a member of the forum before they themselves have been able to post it here! Of course this should not disqualify said MOCs Also, there have been occasions where the creator of a great MOC have joined the forum after the posting of the MOC on the forums -

Technic Hall of Fame Discussion
D3K replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I for one feel that a rule should be that the MOC in question, would have to be submitted here, on the EB forum, by it's original designer. As for criteria to make it into the Hall Of Fame, I too mean the most emphasis should be put on technical features, and the ability to perform these features reliably. After all, it is TECHNIC HALL OF FAME, not Model Team Hall of Fame (something for the future?) That being said, I'm kinda surprised that Jonsson's Blue Angel Soft Tail Chopper was put in there so quickly.. Don't get me wrong: The model is absolutely brilliant, but it's not exactly "Technical"... in fact, IMO it falls more in under a Model Team category..? Just my 2 øre -

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
D3K replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cool, that articulated hauler B-model is pretty much what I suggested a couple of days ago! Is it maybe the exact same vehicle? A little difficult to make out from this angle... -
I have been working on and off on this for a couple of weeks now, and it is not finished (see the back), but I find myself in dire need of yellow arts for other projects, so unfortunately I won't be able to finish it This is my first go at making a plane, so please bear with me.. it is by no means a beauty Its features are: -Rotating prop directly connected to a flat-4 engine. -Realistic flight controls (elevators, rudder, aileron) controlled from cockpit -Retractable (well, sort of) landing gear -Weight brick in the front to keep the nose down -Shiny exhaust pipes The elevators and ailerons are controlled by a stick in the cockpit, and the rudder by pedals. I made a quick LDD model of the mechanical side of things: The purple is the ailerons Red is elevators Green is rudder Making a plane was very much fun, so hopefully I'll be able to make a better one in the future!

42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
D3K replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The box clearly has the by now familiar "2-in-1" logo, but it could be a preliminary box.. Then again, it definitely looks more final than preliminary boxes of the past -
Buying Parts from Lego
D3K replied to Lakop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Order placed 21St, got a mail this morning saying my parts had been packed and shipped, and would arrive in 8-10 days, which initially bummed me out.. Then this afternoon I got a call from DHL, wondering when they could come by tomorrow!:-) So 7 days after I called to pay! And delivered by DHL.. brilliant! -
42030 - Volvo L350F Wheel Loader
D3K replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Four big wheels, yellow parts, LA's and a Volvo license.. Could this be the B-model? Or does Volvo make something like this: ? Ideally it would include an extra pair of wheels and heaps of yellow 5x11 panels as spare parts, and the B-model could be pretty close to Designer-Han's dump truck! -
Build this (from jorgeopesi's Komatsu WA-800), and tell me which parts are stressed: If you have the time, run it from left to right a couple of thousand times, and see if anything breaks down. If it against all odds would break the parts due to being non-symmetrical in design, then why not use just one LA ? I'm not necessarily saying this is the best setup, but it has to be way better than the servo idea! The LA's aren't even that important, the main improvement will be in preventing the jerky motion caused by the servo, as well as more or less eliminating the backlash caused by having to gear the servo. I'm pretty sure it would be as easy, if not easier, to drive in a straight line with an alternative steering solution, rather than a geared down servo.

[MOC] Sequencer Music Machine
D3K replied to Fissl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That is so cool! Great build, great video and great music! Would it be possible to show a video of it playing something else as well? -
I hope the production Volvo will ship with a new "three-step" controller or something, else this is just ridiculous.. But I imagine there must be a reason for the inclusion of servo steering, maybe someone higher up the chain of command said it had to be implemented? I just don't buy the "Kids will not be able to wait 3 seconds to go from left to right"-statement. Using two small LA's, geared up ever so slightly from an M-motor gives a nice, smooth, strong, not to mention precise, steering solution! As it is in the video, I just can not believe that will be the finished product.. That being said, converting it to LA-steering shouldn't be a problem in a model of this size. Anyhow, I' pretty sure I will not be buying the set.. The pick up on the other hand, looks promising, though I'm disappointed it hasn't got 4WD. Also curious to see the bulldozer! Maybe using four Pneumatic Brackets for aestethics?

[TECHNIC] What you learned from Lego
D3K replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Differential! Just try to explain how it works, and you'll see it's difficult:-) By using very few Lego pieces you can easily make a child understand perfectly what it does and how it works! -
Your Best Technic Bargains

[HELP] Articulated Steering
D3K replied to Bison's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My swingloader used some very good geometry I got from jorgeopesi, with two small LA's. I actually did implement a working steering wheel as well, using a very simple mechanism, driven by the inner gear of a large turntable:-)
