Your Best Technic Bargains
D3K replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yeah, it doesn't really matter that much.. I can tell there has been the bulldozer, the white ATV, the combine harvester, the hauler and the telehandler, but none of the really interesting parts were included.. The seller said they had just bought a box of misc pieces at a garage sale, so they might have been kept by the original owner? Lol, yeah, I was quite fast there However, it was simply too many parts that I already have too many of, as I don't tend to keep multiple models built Still, a pretty good deal compared to bricklinking it all! Just finished sorting it all out, was hoping all the way to find some pneumatic cylinder brackets, but unfortunately there were none -

Please check my bricksafe under "Ideas" for more pictures of the setup I guess I'll just have to try! -

Technic General Discussion
D3K replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Quick question I just aquired the RC Buggy parts (motors, receiver/batterybox, controller and steering unit), and started making a rear axle with pushrod suspension, using the two buggy motors As you see, it is roughly the same scale as the 42000 (same wheels), so it is fairly big. The question is; if I complete a body of a formula 1 style car, in the same scale as the 42000, will the setup be strong enough to drive it around fairly easily? I would make it as light as possible, but nevertheless, it's bound to be fairly bigger than both the RC Race Buggy and the Supersonic RC models.. Any thoughts? -
Your Best Technic Bargains

Sorry to revive this somewhat old topic, but BEHOLD: For NOK 500,- (roughly 65-70 EUR) ! Just look at those plastic bags filled to the absolute max with gears, connectors, links, steering stuff, thin liftarms etc etc etc! Not to mention the plethora of beams, five yellow 5x11 panels, four yellow sprockets and much more!! Also, not pictured, was a bag with misc wheels and roughly 100 new style tank tread links! Very satisfied, a whole lot more than I thought it would be when I bid online! Was shocked when I saw the size and felt the weight of the package! In a good way! -
[MOC] Swingloader Mark Two
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm really glad you had fun building it! Thank you very much for all the compliments! It didn't actually take so vey long, as I had a pretty good idea of how I wanted to make the mechanical stuff in my head. Some trial and error, builds and rebuilds, and all the mechanical stuff was done! Also worth to note, is I built a similar model last year (hence the "Mk II"). But overall I think I used between two and three weeks, building on average maybe 1-1,5 hours a day maybe.. So suffice to say, making the instructions took a lot longer, at roughly three weeks. Interesting to learn MLCad though, but very time consuming! I really would wish LDD could be made slightly more advanced to incorporate building instruction making -
Technic Re-Issues - Why Not?
D3K replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'd like to see the dozer re-upped, just so I can get a hold of some pneumatic cylinder brackets! -
They absolutely work! Just not very well... but try raising the crane and pulling down on the string on either side with and without the outriggers deployed, and you will definitely see that they work!

Even though many people dislike the 8053, I personally love it, so I would go for that + a power functions motor kit! As I see it, the only reason to go for the 8052 instead, would be for it's colour!

It was very nice not having to worry about axles and gears that much, still, the tubing is tricky at times, especially when redoing things after most of the MOC is built, as I thought out new and better solutions! Also, if the MOC was to be fully RC, the weight of the motors would be quite spectacular, not to mention finding room to place them all! I think I would have needed 12 motors if all the functions were to be motorized (including driving and steering). On a different not, I am making instructions for a slightly improved version of the chassis, with the thought that people who wants to build a truck, but don't quite know how to do a chassis, can have a little help to get started. In the mean time, I uploaded High Resolution images to my new BrickSafe account, check them out here, if you want to have a closer look.

Take a Guess?

Haha, The metric system is easy and makes sense, compared to the "standard" system of which you speak! But that discussion probably belongs in another forum Looking forward to see what this turns out like! -

I'm very happy that you appreciate the model! In fact I'm a little surprised my MOC has been so well received, but the appreciation from you guys more than makes up for the time and work creating the instructions!:-) -
42024 Replica by dokludi
D3K replied to dokludi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That is pretty cool, and all from one picture! Can't wait to see how it looks compared to the actual model, once we get some more pics! Underbelly shot? -
Yes, for your application, the simplest solution would be to use an old style cylinder with two inlets and square bottom (not to be confused with the old, square bottomed SINGLE inlet cylinders), and attach then in a way similar to the ones you can see upside down in the front of the truck in these pictures: This provides a sturdy and fairly compact solution, better than you would get with those ridiculously expensive brackets

Old style cylinders are a LOT cheaper than brackets!

Big Mobile Crane mark II
D3K replied to piotrek839's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Big is indeed a pretty describing word! This is an awesome MOC, and a really original take on a mobile crane, compared to other more standard mobile crane MOCs and models! Very impressive! -
Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
D3K replied to Sheepo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just an idea, for the previously discussed manual version with sequential gearbox: One could maybe integrate the gearbox with the servo motor, and then place a PF switch, spring loaded (with rubberbands) and with a stick, between the seats ? Then it would still be a "manual model", but with an automatic sequential gearbox, and I can't recall having seen any other MOCs with this setup! EDIT Sort of like a Hurst shifter, previously mentioned by Blakbird!- 195 replies

[TRIPLE] D3K's WIP topic
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry to disappoint, it's not RC...:-( I'm going for models with playability in the sense that you can sit on the floor and drive them around fast and easily, and easily use the desired functions:-) will show how it all works in a video when it's all 100%- 24 replies

[TRIPLE] D3K's WIP topic
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks! In both these cases I built the model in bricks first, just to get the desired size, shape and functions, then in LDD just to get a part count:-) The loader is heavily redesigned from the initial model, especially mechanically. If the model turns out to have too many pieces, I use LDD to try and find alternate solutions.. Every small part counts! I'll tell you some of the tricks I've used when the contest is over;-) The truck is roughly 550 pieces, while the loader us just over 450 (but not finished yet) Thanks!
