Project Shipyard
D3K replied to Edwin Korstanje's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Can't wait to see what scale this will be! Not to mention what the model/models will be! Always awesome!! Is this project a request from a company? Like in.. maybe a shipbuilder? -

42028 Bulldozer Replica by D3K
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It is a tight fit, and the entire inside and undercarriage is rebuilt. The drive motors are just a little more than 1 stud above the ground. It uses a AAA battery box, and the two drive motors are underneath that. The blade motor is in front of the drive motors. Keep in mind, there's only 5 studs between the tracks! Lastly, the ripper motor is mounted vertically behind the battery box (you can just see it sticking up back there). Will post a .lxf file of it when I know it's all good -
Haha, great minds think alike! Should be interesting to see our different approaches! Have you started your build? EDIT: Some progress:

Sounds interesting! Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that in mind till next time

42028 Bulldozer Replica by D3K
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am making a fully motorized version of this model, and this is roughly what it looks like. It is driven from the rear wheels, so I changed them to the bigger type. The overall dimensions are the same as the original. I had to remove the fake engine to place the IR receivers. All functions are driven by M-motors (four of them), and function like in the original model. In fact, this is close to a scaled down version of the 8275, keeping the exact same functions, executed in more or less the exact same way, but in a much smaller scale. Here is a size comparison: I have it built, and it works great. Only missing the ripper. Will try to get some pictures of it beside the pneumatic version, and hopefully a short video of both versions later this week -
[WIP] What should I build from this?
D3K replied to Dion's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That is quite an unusual layout of the axles, I can't think of any normal use real world vehicles with that particular layout, combined with that size of wheels.. That being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with building from ones imagination! I would consider putting in an extra axle in the middle, and then try to make a mobile crane perhaps? It really comes down to what you want yourself. Making a mobile crane, with a multi stage boom, requires a lot of patience, and is easier said than done. A tow truck might be easier? -
New WIP, 42009 C-model To make sure I use only the parts that come in the 42009 box, I took the premade .lxf file of 42009 I found in the LDD forum, and I pick the pieces from that model and place them on my model to the left. A bit frustrating to look for small parts that there aren't that many of, but you know they are there I'm going for a 10 wheel truck with a hook lift on the back. It has 3 axle steering, and a V8 for now. Hope to get in at least four motorized functions: -lifting rear axle (was going for lifting 3rd axle, but it's kinda difficult to re-center the steering without a knob wheel or three.. ) -tilting cabin -hook lift -extention of the hook lift I don't have the 42009, but will try to build an actual model in the future... Many things going on at once now: -Fully motorized 42028 (almost finished) -Mobile crane -Swingloader Mk III -And now this 42009 C-model

Linear actuator in LDD

Sorry to bump this topic, but have someone made the Mini LA in differents stages, like hrontos did with the normal LAs? I see the ones for the outriggers on the LDD 42009 in this forum are fully retracted, but I'd really like one fully extended for a LDD project I'm working on! -
Best Tires for General Use
D3K replied to JGW3000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Of the two you mentioned, I too would go for the ones from 8110. Otherwise, I agree with Horace T and JM1971. IMO those are way more versatile, and work on a wider range of models. -

Efferman's Custom Parts
D3K replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For me, at least, connecting two cylinders end to end is the only reason for me wanting this part. There is no way to do this compactly without those brackets, and lacking longer stroke cylinders, this really is a must for certain medium to large size pneumatic MOCs. -

Yes, I meant the above mentioned part, used in 8421 and 8275. Ridiculously expensive on bricklink. Curious to see what you come up with On a different note, what are the main differences on your design of LA holder, compared to the normal one? I mean, I see they are different, but what are the new part's advantages? -
Impossible LEGO
D3K replied to Boxerlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
In my general work area, I always keep a handy, which is used for pulling/pushing out axles in irregular axle situations, as well as other things. I'm ashamed to say that I also still use my central incisors ( ), though only if I know it won't damage the piece (not like when I was a kid). I also frequently use this contraption here: . It is great as it can be pulled out from axle holes after pushing another axle out. Sorry for a bit off topic... -

Why not draw up some pneumatic cylinder brackets? -

Looks great! Makes me want to buy some! That Lego hasn't released a similar part, especially for the Volvo, as it is a licensed product, is beyond me! -

The boat looks great! Soon to be an engineer in the field of marine technology, I find the Voith Schneider system very fascinating! -
Very very good looking truck! I especially like the engine room details and the doors!
