[COR - FB] The Present Will Be History
Garmadon replied to SilentWolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice builds, Silentwolf, the inside of the schoolroom looks great, I really like the official looking desk and the bookshelf! I'm not sure if the siding doesn't seem a little too modern for this time period though! Excellent job with the log cabin, it simply altogether is superb! The cotton plantation, corn crop, and cow herders are very nice as well, and the book aspect, although it is not completely convincing (maybe it would help if you extended the pages to the end of the border? Or maybe if the base was just shorter...) is a clever and neat idea too Keep it up!- 12 replies

On the outside - kind of like this, but with the round bricks instead of studs and cheese slopes (after a long search I somehow didn't manage to find any example of precisely what I'm talking about, but I hope that's close enough! ) About your sig-fig, sorry! I almost certainly had read that, but I just forgot when I was writing that - looking forward to his adventures too then!

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Garmadon replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
It's not much of a surprise that you didn't find it as it took me a very roundabout way and quite a while to get to it even though I knew most of the circumstances of it's being originally posted (sorry if that was unintelligible! ) Here you go! Anybody else working on something for Mitgardia? -
Very nice first build here, Isundir, the tower and the stables are great, and the hinging back wall and interior are excellent additions - I particularly like the jail, torches, and that you included stairs leading up to the second and third stories! The one thing I would add here would be some kind of transition between the wood and stonework on the tower - maybe a layer with intervals of headlight bricks with brown rounds sticking out like beams (can't find an example right now, but I hope that explains it pretty well! ) Overall, excellent job, looking forward to more of Aurelio's adventures!
-
Very nice build, Titus, definitely your best yet - and much improved photography as well! Although I generally prefer a little less greebly walls, and agree with Isundir about the grill bricks, overall yours does look really good here, and the sloped tower base, SNOTted stairs, and details under the crenelations are superb! Excellent SK style wood-work as well, and for some reason the flag-spears sticking out just look perfect! Great job! A few things that could use improvement would be the stair-railing which could be tiled, and the terrain, which looks a bit jumbled and confused. I would try using less different plants all in a heap and try to arrange them in more natural formations if possible - but I do really like your tree there! A last couple of things would be that the cheese slopes on arrow slits generally point the other direction (right now they would serve to turn any arrow that hits them into the tower, which would not be good! ), and that the brown roof edge over the gable on the tower looks out of place (as the tower isn't wooden like the other two). Not exactly sure how to fix that without some big change though... Overall you're certainly improving quickly in both builds and presentation, keep it up!

Now, what have we got here...
Garmadon replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ha, ha! For some reason, even though I knew the Black Moustache had the same face as Colonel Brickinson, I most certainly did not see that coming! Nice looking prison (well, comparatively, for what it is! ), and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you have got up your sleeve!- 11 replies

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Garmadon replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
@Maestro, looking good so far! I'll agree with en_zoo that the water could use a good deal of trans-clear or trans-blue in it if you have any, and I would cap off as many studs on the rock-work as possible with dark grey cheese or 1x1 tiles. In general, I think rock-work looks best with some studs, but still not very many, exposed to give it the sort of smoothly jagged look it has in real life - especially in places where the rest of the landscaping has a lot of studs, like here. Henjin has given some good advice about the tower, but I will add that your posing there is really superb! Another thing is that I would probably remove the dark grey tiles in the middle of the landscape, and make fewer but more natural looking (and a little bigger) rocky outcrops combining cheese slopes, tiles, maybe a larger slope or two, with a couple of studs exposed (maybe some 1x1 rounds would help too). For some reason the flower stalks always look a bit odd (IMHO at least!) scattered all over like this, since they really aren't to scale for minfig sized grass - so I would suggest only grouping a few clusters here and there, but not covering the whole build in them. If you have any pieces in that color, trans-green swampy areas pretty much always look good, and a few more tiles mixed in with the green up top and the bank below (they generally look best partly buried under studs) would improve the look overall. My last piece of advice would be to add some smaller leaves (if you've got any left! - I know not enough leaves is always a problem for me, anyways! ) to the top of the flex-tube trees (probably just laying them there, since unfortunately they don't have any attachment points in the middle), or to cover the top of the tubes some other way, since it looks a tad odd the way they are just sort of cut off. I'm rather conflicted on that point, though, so just use your own discretion! Well, that's about as much advice/suggestions as I'm able to think of at the moment, so I hope it helps! -
[COR-FB] The King's Harbour Slipway
Garmadon replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I'm not quite sure why, but I really do like this build a lot - while the landscape is a tad plain, the colors on it are excellent, and your water always manages to look superb! Great start to a ship there as well, I'm just a little bit past that with one of my own about that size now (or have been for a while ). You should really do an interior to it though!- 5 replies

[COR - Aug FB3] The 'Red' School, Weelond
Garmadon replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice build, Ayrlego, the modular approach looks great here, and the turret, clips, and window frames are excellent as well! Very good job with the interior too, it's great to see some of the old one-room schools here in BoBS! If I had a nitpick, it would be that there seems to be missing one brown 1x4 tile on the third story (under the shelf), but that is obviously pretty small The best part is naturally the Eslandolan soldier out front though, ha, ha! -
Excellent color-scheme, SK, and the stained glass windows, sign, and architectural details are great! Very tasty looking wares as well!

Excellent ship, CB4, the curves are superb, and that rigging and the size of the entire thing are incredibly impressive as well! Although in general I prefer less studs, it does look quite good here - and is there any chance that she will be outfitted with sails in the future?
-
Very nice ship, Captain B, the sails are excellent, and the stern and color-scheme are superb! Although overall, it has a little of a chibi feel, that doesn't hurt, and the crew is awesome as well! Banana?

Excellent build, Dubbadgrim, the ruins are great, and I really like the orange lava flows as well! Wonderful beastie and posing as well - and definitely a pretty clever tactic! Brilliant job with the collapsing wall as well!

[COR - Aug FB2] Abigail Park Barracks, Mooreton Bay
Garmadon replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice build, Ayrlego, the barracks look nice while still suitably rough, and you have quite an impressive array of soldiery there! A couple of my favorite details are the firing slits in the lower wall, and the color of the target uniforms (), but the cannon and roof are excellent as well I do have to agree with Bregir about the terrain, though - probably placing a few of the 2x1 plates in the other orientation would help, as they currently almost look like they are all pointing towards the targets- 6 replies

Excellent build, MassEditor, and great to see you over here again! Your Kaliphlinian architecture is great as always, and the bustle and activity is very nice as well! A couple of my favorite details are the orange tree (not sure why, but I always love those! ), the lantern stands, and the fisherman's stall! Looking forward to seeing what you've been up to all this time!

Very nice build, the curving walls are excellent, and the overgrown interior and tree mosaic are superb as well! The entry way details and minifigs are great too, and I really like the shot with extra lighting! Congrats on the well-deserved frontpage!

[COR - Aug FB1] Botany House, Mooreton Bay
Garmadon replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent build, Ayrlego, the architecture on the building is superb (I particularly like your solution for the top of the roof, the corner details, the light grey stripes, and the use of bricks with the axle holes), and the interior is very nice as well! Good work with the gardens and exterior as well, although for some reason - maybe because it starts on top of the wall? - the trellis looks a tad odd to me. I also agree with Capt. Wolf and blackdeathgr that a second story on the interior would have fixed the mildly disturbing white you can see behind the second story windows, but overall this is a very nice build and a great addition to the Brethren of the Brick Seas! Keep it up!- 10 replies

[FB - COR] Those smelly pig farmers... oh, bacon!
Garmadon replied to SilentWolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice log cabin and sty, SilentWolf, and, while I agree with Capt. Wolf about the levels, I still like that you went with an irregular base I really like all the names as well! -
Very nice build, SK, the colors are excellent, and the architecture is very impressive - those clip receivers under the battlements being my favorite part as well! The landscaping and Tudor are great as well, although for some odd reason I actually like the back of the build more than the front - maybe those forestmen have something to do with it! Really, my one critique would be that, like Henjin, I think the black roof on the tower for some reason looks out of place - I think either making it larger and having a bit of overhang, or changing it to battlements as Henjin suggested would look a bit better. I must say, even if this doesn't have an interior, the amount of building you and LJ were able to do for BFVA was tremendously impressive! Having three builds in progress (a couple of weeks ago, one is already finished and destroyed now) is plenty enough of a pain for me (and I'm sure I never feel like doing it again! )

Great to see you back here again, Puvel, the snow and wall look very nice, and I too like the tan on top of the poles! While a building or something of that sort (as the others mentioned) would be nice, if you had the pieces I would recommend maybe also adding another row of posts in front, and perhaps curving the wall a little bit to add more visual interest Don't worry, getting too exited for Mitgardia is an moral impossibility (well, probably, at least...)! Definitely happy to see you building for the Guilds again!

Visiting a Pirate Island
Garmadon replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent build and intriguing story, Capt. B, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this all ends up! The section at the end between first and second speakers was especially hilarious The stud approach gives this a very nice classic feel, and the yellow sand really turned out superb! Great minifig posing as well, and the ship looks very nice, especially the color-scheme and stern section we can see here! Great job!- 14 replies

Excellent job guys, it definitely ends up as an incredibly impressive layout! The colors overall really work very well together, and the photography is excellent as well (I know that can be very complicated for something this large!) Some of my favorite parts were the stone hut, the dark green house, and the boat section out front, but the wall, greathouse, and mountain are quite remarkable as well! Looking forward to your next one! (Are you planning on increasing it by 56 pounds every year? )

The plot sizes for the royal residences will be remaining the same, but a bit of leeway if necessary will obviously be granted as to size, since the guidelines are not supposed to be rigid rules. As Capt. Wolf said, residences are clearly not ever a huge source of revenue (since that is not their primary purpose), so it makes sense that it will not be nearly as good a return as, for example, a royal factory or plantation.

Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread
Garmadon replied to Lance's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Unless it has changed a lot more than I think it has (in the last two thousand years ), I'm fairly positive it still only means "and," "also," or "even." Pur or Puros would be fire (where we get Pyro-maniac from). Thanks for the recap though, as I (and others, I'm sure) don't have the time to watch the whole thing myself!- 4,591 replies
