174C Well my 79008 Pirate ship was sailing alongside the IFS, BSB & QAR. Needless to say she was the silliest of them all without cannons. So it was time for a mod! Hereby I present you the 17 gun Corsair "Flying Arrow" Details: 12 side cannons 2 front cannons (chasers) 1 back cannon (defender) & 2 upper deck mini cannons It will be one of the ships I will use in the upcomming Brethren of the Brickseas! The Cpt. Matt Lenoir has the right to Privateer under the Eslandolian flag, permission granted by my upcomming main character, the governor of Stedor. So here is Cpt. Matt Lenoir: And the flag: C&C ofcourse welcome! note: to keep the atmosphere of the original ship, I did not touched the front and back :)

Previously: Part I - Striking The Deal Part II - The Captain's Boat Part III - The Hurricane Part IV - The Cartographer Part V - The Letter Unfortunately for First Mate Henrique Navarrez, his cousin's idea of a "safe hand" left somewhat to be desired. The messenger happened to run into an old acquaintance on his way through Salida Este in an effort to locate the Gallant, and, of course, a drink and a good meal were essentials. Meanwhile, the letter - and Father Tholeau's journal - lay forgotten on the table. After the trusty messenger had left, in walked a character with whom we are already slightly familiar. Rhys Thomson slid onto a bench, muttering as he did so, "Harder than my spouse's head, as my wife would surely say!" Then he called loudly for a roll and a glass. Presently he spotted the sealed missive lying on the far end of the table. "What have we here?" he ejaculated under his breath. Then he opened the packaging, and quickly spotted the heading, "Journal of Father Tholeau." "Hm-mm," the detective murmured. "Well, as my wife would say, finders keepers, losers weepers. I have a good friend in the printing business that will love this." Then he looked up from his reading and noticed a young man standing in front of him. "Can I do something for you?" "That depends. Are you the detective Rhys Thomson, of Salida Este?" "Yes, sir, I am Rhys Thomson, and I am detective of Salida Este - the detective of Salida Este, there being none other so enterprising. Tell me, sir, what brings you here this fine evening? At least, as my wife would say, this evening that will be fine, provided it ends in a good bed?” “I have a case for you.” “A case? You’ve come to the right man. Of what sort?” “A case of murder.” “Another one!” the detective thought to himself, but, never one to spill the beans, he did not say it aloud. “But, instead of finding the murderer, I want you to find the victim.” For once, Rhys Thomson was startled out of his usual poker face. “In my experience it is not customary for a detective to be – ah – necessary to find – dead people.” “Unless,” the young man replied mysteriously, “unless, they’re still alive.” Rhys pulled at his mustache. Here was a puzzler – as his wife would surely say. After a minute he added, “Well, young man, sit down! Sit down! Let’s talk business! First – your name?” To be continued... A few more pictures of the build: Credit to W. Navarre for that lantern design! In case this is slightly confusing, I've used this build to further two separate storylines - one featuring the detective, Rhys Thomson, which I will continue separately - the other one dealing with the Fountain of Youth, which will be continued as well. C&C welcome!

Fascinated by the reports in Father Tholeau's journal, Cato Calrelli immediately wanted to set sail to the mentioned island. But realizing he was out out supplies, he instead changed course back to Terreli to return better prepared as soon as possible. Unfortunately for him and his career, Calrelli was a bit too eager getting home quickly. He ignored the bad weather warnings from the Kings Port Advertiser. Never a good thing to do! He didn't wait for the storm front to pass, and took the direct route - were the hurricane caught his ship. Only with luck Calrelli and his crew were washed up on the shores of Terraversa. Alive - but he would never again be given the chance to captain another expedition to find out if Father Tholeau's stories were true.

With Alejandro currently incarcerated and charged with murder Ignacio "Nacho" Quintero, his former valet and now junior partner, has the reins. Nacho has assembled a team of men to help him explore the waterways and surrounding rock formations up the Terreli River after reports of precious metals found in the river come back to him. A bit of prospecting (i) by Phadeout, on Flickr A bit of prospecting (ii) by Phadeout, on Flickr This team seem to have been the luckiest so far - the men attribute it to Rasher, their good luck pig who seems to be able to sniff out valuable things. [ESL-FB2] Crawling from the Wreckage
Captain Braunsfeld posted a topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Everybody said it would happen, everybody feared it would happen: A great explosion has devastated the laboratory of Alberto Antonio da Pontelli. The monkey had escaped just in time after giving a cry of warning. Luckily Alberto was not seriously injured. .. but heartbroken ... The phlogiston experiments had turned out to be much more dangerous than initially expected. Alberto would need to send out a warning to the fellows of the Royal Academy. C&C welcome! Down at the edge of the beach in Nova Terreli is a warehouse owned by MAESTRO. Stored there are rolls of sail canvas and large spools of hemp rope, for MAESTRO ship repairs. The warehouse was built upon a raised platform in such a way as to leave a ledge at the back (seaward) wall. The man in charge of accounting for, and dispensing, the supplies therein is Quartermaster Bastian Touw. Two years ago the playwright Tragian Altidore befriended Bastian. This permitted Tragian to use the ledge as a stage, after clearing a bit of brush to set up seating. Tragian used the space as a practice venue to try out new prose for an audience of select, trusted friends. Recently Tragian has converted to the Triuri faith, and has now invited Dearji the Windsong to sing and help his friends to understand the glory of the Triuri. ". . . i mewn neh tahweil chawr." Dearji finished the Song of Resting in the old tongue. (From left to right) Tragian Altidore in his bardic finery. Arsbeth Westerlond, Tragian's new 'lady friend', is a little unsure why she's here. Riy Kul is doing his best to learn about the other cultures of this world. (Left to right again) Riy Kul has a token he will offer to Dearji after her performance. Tolan duBroise is sipping a little local wine as he lets Dearji's soothing voice wash over him. Quartermaster Bastian Touw thought this was going to be some sober, holy address, like those Order of the Faith ceremonies that he got drug to by other friends. He decides to reach for the bottle of fine uisge that Dearji has furnished him with. ----------------------------------------------------------- Just some shots of the plants and the build empty to show the seating design. ---------------------------------------------------------- These are the first Lego images taken with my new cell. Hopefully, with practice, I will have some more quality pics from now on.

Cato restlessly paced the courtyard, awaiting the coming of the Oleander priest with whom he was to meet up there. The deal was too good of a one to pass up, and taking a crazy Oleander priest on board could hardly get him into any trouble. Still, it was decidedly annoying to be kept waiting by someone of that sort. There, finally! The priest rounded the corner and came into view, producing the price for the passage - and a little extra - at the same time. He held a scroll in his other hand. All in all, that Oleander priest's was a rather mysterious personality, but Cato Calrelli was not one to ask too many questions if he was paid enough. "Bon voyage, sir," he exclaimed, taking the money, "and I hope that you - that is, of course, we - may have a prosperous voyage to Terra Nova!" An overview on blue: Built for- well, wait and see, for there's more to come soon! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!

Previously: Part I - Striking The Deal Part II - The Captain's Boat Part III - The Hurricane Part IV - The Cartographer To my esteemed cousin, Henrique Navarrez, First Mate of the EMS Gallant Dear cousin, I write this with eyes sore and bleary from copying, and truly, I am tempted to envy you your free and active life on the high seas. I am here penned up in a tiny academy, learning the rudiments of the science of cartography, and in my spare time doing a bit of copyist work, in return for which I bed and board gratis. The life of an academician may be a secure one, but I dearly wish that my parents will one day repent themselves of their decision and allow me to join the army - else I shall be sorely tempted to follow your example and run off to Eslandola. If I could be sure of your luck, I would do it at once. But enough of that - I have enclosed a journal - a copy I myself have made - of the travels of a certain Father Tholeau, which I think may be of interest. See that you use it wisely however, for in fact I do not think sending it to you is quite what the academy master had in mind when he sent me with it to the copyists' room. Nevertheless, knowing your interest in anything that partakes of the marvelous, I have enclosed the copy and am sending it to you by a safe hand. May the winds always be in your sails, good cousin, and God bless you! Signed, Sebastian Navarrez.

After losing his first command in a hurricane, Captain Philip Janszen did not expect that an assignment to a larger ship was in his immediate future. But Anthony Crol, his first mate, apparently had friends in high places (did he know someone in the Fontonajo family?) and secured them command of the Class 4 Far Horizon. Janszen was still in Port Raleigh after their rescue, but Crol and the rest of the crew of the Lady of Madrice were now in Nova Terreli to prepare the Far Horizon to sail at the end of the month. Anchored in the harbor, the Far Horizon was quite a sight for Crol. Four cannons per broadside, with two sizable swivel guns on the bow. She was said to be a fast ship, and Crol looked forward to seeing her at sail. But for now he must make do with making sure the ship is properly provisioned and that all cargo is stored properly below deck. * * * * * I built this ship at the same time as I built the Heart of Eslandia, so it does not feature any of the lessons learned from that build. Furthermore, it was designed to be a bit sturdier and more “playable.” The head rails are less realistic and more like some of the early official Lego ships. A ship of this era would not have a wheel on the quarterdeck, but rather a whipstaff or tiller below deck, but a wheel above deck is the better play option. The stern does hinge down for access to the captain’s cabin, but it is not detailed.

Allow me to represent a small factory in Nova Terreli, the Red Top Rum Distillery, makers of the drink of choice in the choicest dockside rum bars with it's guarantee that "your eyesight will return within two days or your money back" it has proven already to be a hit in the dock district. It is based in a former residence which has gone to ruin as has the rest of the neighbourhood, although business is picking up again you will note the boarded up windows, ivy growing everywhere and damaged roof typical of the location. Although the walls add brightness the whitewash is really quite thin and the area as a whole needs some work to get it looking as attractive as other parts of Nova Terreli. Red Top Rum Distillery (i) by Phadeout, on Flickr The interior shows the top floor is where the magic happens with the vats producing both white and golden rum and the ingredients being prepared; downstairs is where the rum ages (but not for long!) and is then bottled or left in casks for deliveries to the local drinking establishments. Red Top Rum Distillery (v) by Phadeout, on Flickr Red Top Rum Distillery (iii) by Phadeout, on Flickr Rum expert I am not - still I hope you like it!

Guy paced the Mardier courtroom, trying to look important as he waited for the sitting to begin; but he only looked bored. Presently, however, he was surprised by the entrance of his Uncle. "Why, good day, Uncle! Whatever are you doing all the way out here in Mardier?" "I'm counsel for Eslandola. What are you doing?" "Oh, I'm Secretary of State, you know. Must take care of diplomacy, blah-blah-blah." Guy yawned. "Diplomacy! My foot! Sit back and see how it's handled." Guy laughed and took a seat as the courtroom began to fill. Not much can be said about the commencement of the trial, except that it was every bit as boring as it sounds. Then the counsel for l'Ollius stood up and made a long, flowery speech, full of poetical nonsense. Then Guy's Uncle arose. "Men of Mardier!" he bellowed. "Citizens! A horrible travesty of justice has been committed! By you! Eslandian shipping has been attacked! By you! Peace and prosperity has been endangered! By you! Stop! Return our ships! Punish this villainous privateer!" Guy's Uncle thumped his stick emphatically on the floor. "Justice demands it! Will you not stand by justice?" "Pineapples!" someone in the crowd shouted. And almost instantly everyone in the courtroom was on their feet, stomping and clapping and shouting, "Pineapples!" Guy's Uncle was unsure what to make of it. "Pineapples is Mardier-talk for, 'Hear, hear!'" Guy whispered. His Uncle shook his head. "These Mardierians are weird." "Order! Order in the court!" the judge exclaimed. Then he pulled out a giant mallet and knocked an unfortunately rowdy member of the jury on the head. "Order!" Guy's Uncle let out a low whistle. "These Mardierians are weird-weird." "The jury may now retire," the judge proclaimed, putting the mallet away. The jury promptly filed out and Guy and his Uncle sat down to await their verdict. "By the by, Uncle - what do you think of what's been going on recently back in Oleon? With King Fernando and all?" "King Fernando always does what is best," Guy's Uncle said determinedly. "Oh." Guy looked a little disappointed. "Then I suppose you don't like our little plan to..." "What is best for himself, as I was about to say," Guy's Uncle cut in severely. "Oh! Then, I suppose, you do like our little plan to..." "Yes." At this moment the jury returned, forestalling further conversation. After a short colloquy with the judge, the latter announced, "Gentlemen, the court is adjourned for the day. The jury has requested time." Guy's Uncle whistled again. "Time? Time is money, folks! These Mardierians sure are weird." Guy accompanied his Uncle outside the elaborate building. From the vantage point of the street, they both stopped to look back. Guy's Uncle stared in amazement. "These Mardierians are weird-weird!" And another shot of the interior (which technically is supposed to be the second story): This was a pretty fun build. That pineapple was a blast. Facade was very much inspired by Gideon. C&C welcome! Thanks for looking!

The next morning Captain Whiffo and his first and second mate strode into the ship builders office again. "Sir," exclaimed the director, still elated by the events of the preceding evening, "there she be, ratlines and rigging tight, and all in all quite seaworthy!" "Haha!" replied the Captain, and, turning to the mates, he exclaimed, "prepare the crew by high tide, and we shall be off at once!" "Uh, Cap'in," replied the second mate, "you do know you've given us exactly five minutes?" "Pshaw!" responded the captain, "well, then make it five and a half. We're off to Pontelli, me hearties!" Five and a half minutes later the anchor was up, and the Henri sailed out into the uncharted waters of adventure. A few hours later, as the first watch went below, Captain Whiffo sent for his first mate in his cabin. "Mr. Bowditch, sir," he began, "as you can see, we be hear, and need to get somewhere over there to Pontelli." That was now taken care of. "Before we left, by the by," went on the Captain, "I went over to see Wilkinson, and he informed me that he had settled the whole mayor thing, and I have his letter to Alberto de Pontelli right here. Let's see," he cleared his throat. To Alberto de Pontelli Terreli, 23rd of April, 616 As mentioned earlier, your experiments in the area of using the phlogiston extracted from Oleonish wine to lift pieces of cloth with other various oddities of a round and brownish hue - in short, with coconuts - into the air, convinced me that your worthy self would make a most excellent mayor for the settlement of Pontelli - though, also, as mentioned previously, either Colonel Brickinson or some other person willing (or not) would be the one who would have to do all the work involved in the post. I give you, sir, my congratulations, and hope that you may have a long and prosperous life (at least as long as may be reasonably expected, given one with your own occupation), and that you will avoid blowing up (or down) more houses in the settlement than necessary for the pursuit of science. I sincerely hope that this letter reaches you in good health - in short, in a pre-poisoned, exploded, burst, or other uncomfortable condition, and that you will enjoy and make the most of your new and honorable position. Yours, E. T. Wilkinson de Chauncourtois "Well, well," continued the Captain, "there is a fine end to that business. That is all!" The second mate soon after came down and called on the Captain. "Compliments, sir," he declared, saluting, "the weather looks fine, sir, and Terreli has just faded astern." "Very well then sir," replied Captain Whiffo, "I shall go topside then and see what's up with that Oleon passenger guy." Meanwhile Myles had checked that all the cannon, powder, and balls were prepared for any time at which they might be needed. Pirates and other enemies (well, for all practical purposes they were pirates too...) swarmed the seas, and though the Henri could easily outrun most of the other ships east of Terraversa, it were always best to be prepared. Off they were to sea, at last, and to the Pontelli - the first mate smiled a bit as he thought of de Chauncourtois' letter, and though he likewise did hope that they would arrive to find the new mayor (well, soon to be, that is) in a pre-exploded state, it was undoubtedly just a tad eccentric to actually declare as much. The second mate: The interior: I was quite surprised to find how little interior room (comparatively speaking) there was in such a large-ish ship, but I tried to make the most of what I had! The cook: And a couple of unedited overview shots: The crew (well, most of the crew was actually below deck when I took the first pictures, and above when I took the interior shots, so they don't show up here - at least, that was the excuse they gave! ): It's finally ready! The Henri took a little over one month to build, and a little less than that to edit (I did have a lot of other things to do, btw!) A fast trading ship (I'm think Class 7 or 8F, but I won't be licencing it for a while yet), the Henri has a complete interior, an armament broadside of three 18 pounders, and a very exhausting amount of rigging! She is owned and commanded by Captain Whiffo, a high ranking member of the ETWC. Myles Bowditch (my sig-fig) is the first mate and navigator, and the second mate is the guy behind the wheel (if the story didn't make that clear!). The Henri was greatly inspired by the Putnam and Koen's awesome De Ruyer Frigate, which was a lot of help, especially with the rigging - which, by the way, I believe I only had to redo completely once, due to the wind (it was blowing a hurricane when I went out to take pictures!) blowing the white posterboard down on it from above (when I discovered the 17-18th century ships were apparently not rigged with such a possibilty in mind!) Thanks for viewing, C&C are always welcome!

Delighted by the success of his latest experiments, Alberto da Pontelli writes a letter: Dear Mr. Hawksbrugh, I am very thankful for the book you sent me on the possible existence of phlogiston. This has enabled me to achieve an unbelievable breakthrough: When you set fire to the gas that comes out of a bottle of old Oleon wine, the resulting phlogiston is powerful enough to lift objects. (edited) I can only encourage you to carry out some experiments for yourself. It would be interesting to find out whether other substances besides Oleon wine do also possess the same qualities. Your friend Alberto da Pontelli .. science has a tendency to spread ...

After Eslandolan explorer Cato Calrelli returned with news that he had discovered an island east of Terraversa, a handful of adventurous colonists sailed to the island of Nellisa and established the settlement of Nova Terreli on its northwestern coast. One of the first permanent structures these early settlers built was a church. The structure features buttressed walls, arched windows along the sides, inset statuettes flanking the entrance, round windows high at both ends, a traditional clay tile roof, and a bell tower. Only large enough to accommodate a dozen people at most, Nova Terreli soon outgrew the small structure. That old church is now known as the Chapel de San Terreli, and it is still used today for small weddings and other gatherings. Officials still keep the building and grounds well maintained. The chapel is an important cultural icon for the citizens of Nova Terreli as both a religious structure and a reminder of the settlement’s roots. * * * Here are a couple of additional architectural shots:

Atticus Cuervo and his wife Jazmyn have finally finished construction of their new home on the island of Torrach Bonn. Atticus felt that the island was the perfect location to set up his new venture. Along with his supportive wife and quite a few others, a venture was begun, and a small camp was established at the mouth of the Great Serpentine River in the Southwest corner of the island. The first actual building to be constructed was the Cuervo Villa. Atticus and his dog Zatara have just left to go on a hunt for dinner, as we see Jazmyn waving to her husband. This is a small residence, licensed in the unnamed town, on the island of Torrach Bonn. OOC: I took my pics today at about 1630, which was the right idea, but unfortunately, the sun was already starting to get low in the sky so...I get shadows. Live and learn right? Also need to get a different background. The sheet is the right idea, but it's going to wrinkle no matter what so I need to find an alternative.

(FB2, Eslandola, April 2016) Alberto da Pontelli was carrying out his experiments in the basement of his house, which functioned as his laboratory. He was experimenting with the hot phlogiston that was created by setting fire to what came out of a good bottle of old Oleon wine. He thought that this would be enough to make some old cotton underskirt fly (which he had borrowed from his fiancé). It worked! "It flyeth, it flyeth", Alberto exclaimed. "The ball of cotton flyeth". He and Natasha were delighted as the cotton-structure (weighted by a stick) hit the ceiling. .. and they were too happy and distracted to notice other, less important events in the laboratory. (Where would this invention [named: "The flying ball of cotton"] lead him? ) C&C welcome!

El Toro Bravo : A class 2A Topsail cutter After being repaired the former Oleon ship known as "La Vaillante" became "El Toro Bravo" and was given to the Eslandian Colonel Ignacio Severus to command. And she began her duty by being sent along the shores of Berelli in order to track down the pirates. I bettered the "Vaillante" I made for Challenge II and I will license her as a Class 2A vessel. I changed the colours, I change the Masts and put more in the middle the main mast. I made the rigging in order to be able to lower the sails. I think my story is well explaining how and why she became an eslandian warship... So I can license her, I never licensed her when she was Oleander. I think I can do that. If not, don't hesitate to tell me. Thank you and enjoy !

This is the result of the battle Corrington lead towards the forest against the filthy human sacrificiers who rose against King Azuma and the western settlers from Corrington and Eslandola. You can see the excellent begining of this story here. I have to thank SkaForHire to let me conclude on the fate of the Eslandolan trader known as Damion Denela. A "Gift" from Corrington : While the Doctor and his companions were preparing their expedition, Felipe de la Manzana charged Basil and el Colonel Severus to organise the security of Elysabethtown. They caught some dangerous pirates near the port and managed to put them rapidly in a "cosy" cell... When a letter arrived to Basil anouncing the arrival of Lt Tanner with the Eslandolan trader Corries caught at an horrible human sacrifice. Impossible such a tader could be from MAESTRO ! Probably an independant merchant who thought he would make more money being out of morale... After a few days, Lt Sully Tanner arrived with the prisoner solidly chained up. "Right in time ! Thought Basil. We have some pirates who are bored of our new prison..." Basil showed the way to the prison to the Lt Tanner. 'Hang on "Shrimp" encouraged the former pirate captain. You are not going to die !" - Shh. Someone ! The pirates looked at the opening door. "Let me unchained the prisoner and put some handcuffs, it will be better, isn't it ? Said Colonel Severus to Lt Tanner. - Yes of course you're right. Answered the Corleander officer. "I would like to thank MAESTRO and your leaders to have kept an open mind. Of course Corrington is not accusing the Eslandian Company to deal with those filthy barbarians !" Conclude Lt Sully Tanner shaking Basil's hand. - Thank you to trust us. I hope this incident will help our countries to be better allies in the future. Perhaps we will help you to lead some military revenge against those dangerous men !" Answered Basil. And they through the poor merchant at the mercy of the pirates prisoners into the cell... "HELP ! They will kill me !" yelled Damion Denela. The guard did not answer... I hope you'll like this (rude) scene. It is inspired from a book I recently read : Le Déchronologue, a French mix between Sci-fi and Piracy. A good read ! and an horrible prison scene !

[Esl - FB3 Apr] : A shipyard and a payment
Tezclatipoca posted a topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A Shipyard and a payment : While the Doctor is preparing his expedition, Felipe de la Manzana received some news from his Ténotclaxcan friend Pinya. She taught Felipe the Ténotclaxcans managed to catch an Oleon ship when they repeled them at sea... The ship was not in good status but was still seaworthy and with some repairs could be a good warship. The ship name was "La Vaillante" So Pinya gave the ship in order to pay Felipe the service he is offering to the tribe by sending them the doctor. Felipe was surprised and managed to build rapidly a shipyard for Elysabethtown to make the repairs on "La Vaillante". Felipe visited the new shipyard at work just when the men, helped by some natives, began to work. So much work to do ! The mast had to be rebuilt; the sails were totally lost, and that awful yellow paint has to go ! thought Felipe when he saw the vessel remnants. Some men were not so found at work than others and prefered to enjoy good apples... The new paint had to be green ! According to Felipe : a bright green ! Once the masts rebuilt and the new rigging and sails are ready, Felipe returned with Pinya admire the work. Once again, it seemed that a man (the same ??) prefered to play with a monkey instead of working... I hope you will like this shipyard. C&C's are always welcome. The ship will be seen in a dedicated topic when ready (soon !) -
[ESL v. MAR] The Demon That Haunts L'Ollius
Umbra-Manis posted a topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Eslandola vs. Mardier For Eslandola! Captain L'Ollius was widely known to be a fearless man in Mardier. However, there was one fear he had kept hidden. And now, since he had captured those Eslandolan ships during a time of Peace, it had been haunting him. His one fear: Pineapples. He had been nearly poisoned by one when he was young, and this was worse than any he had ever seen. It was a demon Pineapple. He screamed and leapt out his bed, sword in hand. Nothing. "Are ye alright Captain?" "Yes, it was....... nothing." My entry for Eslandola! Unfortunately I didn't have time to render the last two images. C&C welcome! -
The reporter from the Kings Port Advertiser was fuzzing about, calling out to the sketch artist to "catch my best features…" and "…make sure to make L'Olius looking right heroic for the frontpage" and to the scribe "…and don't you misquote me, or I will have at your hide!" They were setting up outside the high court of Terraversa waiting for the highly profiled case of L'Olius versus Eslandola, a case, which, apart from including the most beloved naval hero of Terraversa, was highly likely to have serious diplomatic consequences. And with Terraversa struggling for independence in the Mardierian civil war, the outcome could be critical to the future of the colony. A large crowd was assembling, and there was a general din as the tension was rising with the anticipation. A few Eslandians had shown up too, but most of them withdrew swiftly as the moral pressure of collective public opinion against them, or were removed by brute physical force, should they venture to express their allegiance. The hum of the crowd was considerable and normal conversation was strained at best, impossible at the worst. Nonetheless, the moment the doors opened and a guarded L'Olius stepped out, a hush fell over the crowd. L'Olius raised his hand in greeting, a triumphant smile spreading upon his face, and the hush temporarily gave way to a series of loud cheers. As the cheers died down, L'Olius gave a short speech in his booming quarterdeck voice, much to the joy of the crowd. "L'Olius has just left the courts, and appears in great spirits" the reporter dictated. "Out here, he is getting the hero's reception he deserves, regardless of the mistreatment those greedy, selfish Eslandians has brought upon him." The scribe scribbled on, and the sketch artist was busy immortalising the moment that might change the fate of Terraversa for ever. "The Eslandians have long held our trade in an iron grip, and their unlawful monopolies have threatened our economy, our very survival, and most importantly, our freedom!" The reporter paused for a moment, weighing his words and letting the scribe catch up. "L'Olius has taking it upon himself to put things right, to bring justice and reason to our world. With a perfectly legal Letter of Marque in hand, he has fought for our liberty, and the survival of our merchants. And now the Eslandians have brought him to court! Perfectly harassing him, our great hero! And on the pretence of some trifle about legalities - a trifle surely put to right by our esteemed courts!" The scribe enjoyed this… He knew it would be on the front page of the Kings Port Advertiser tomorrow, and that it would be sold out. The picture forming on his colleague's canvas would be the perfect eye-catcher, as would any headline containing L'Olius' name these days. As the reporter continued his narrative, he resumed his writing. What a sensation this would be…

Ahoy mateys, this is Part I of our storyline for the ongoing build off between ESL and MAR. We - that is Jacob Nion, Bregir, and I - sided with l'Olius and justice! To reveal to you what those sneaky, backstabbing Eslandolans are capable of doing with their money-grabbing fingers if they see their Doubloons at stake. A Hero Harassed - Part I - Pleadings “You did what?” The judge gasped in surprise. And it looked like the hint of a grin on his face. L'Olius continued. Yes, he had seized the Queen of Terreli – and he had done it... with pineapples! L'Olius' squadron had been following the Eslandolan convoy for several days, and couldn't believe that there was only one warship to escort all these traders. And this warship seemed to be commanded by the worst captain anyone could ever have heard of. As a result, the Queen of Terreli performed so very poorly at sea, clearly this could only be a trap. But l'Olius was determined to follow his orders, so his squadron kept pursuing. And when they were about to intercept, l'Olius knew how he could seize the Queen without much violence: If using grapeshot was one of the most bloody ways to attack and seize a ship, he would use a broadside of the most unbloody thing – pinappleshot. And it worked! The captain and crew of the Queen were so utterly surprised, that before they could even think of what in Poseidon's name they had just witnessed, l'Olius was already standing on the bridge, and he placed the still confused captain under arrest. This story would definitely go down in history. What a day. But all that wasn't really what this trial was all about. Neither were the reasons for l'Olius orders to be discussed, nor the political background to be analyzed. This trial was about one thing only: Did he seize the Queen of Terreli legally, did he possess a valid letter of marque. And the answer to this question could only be 'Yes.' Yes, he did possess a valid letter of marque. It was granted to l'Olius personally by the Governor of Terraversa himself. And denying Terraversa's Governor the right to issue legal documents – not even Eslandola could go that far, if they didn't intend to affront all Mardians, and risk a war, that they always claimed not to want! So for one last time l'Olius looked at the pitiable Eslandolan representative, and waving his letter of marque before her eyes with pleasure he said: “Like it or not – the Queen of Terreli is now legally mine.” I hope you enjoyed this first part. Here is the rest: Part II - Discovery, Part III - Prospects. C&C welcome. For l'Olius and justice!

Colonel Brickinson was in a bad, bad mood. It was not that he was supposed to visit Major Capaldi and inspect the southern fort. He liked Capaldi and the fort was in great shape. It was the fact that they had made that scientist the Mayor of Pontelli. And that scientist had started to give him orders! Colonel Brickinson was in a bad, bad mood... Behold the bad tempered Colonel: and Major Capaldi: At least, Colonel Brickinson thought, they have a monkey... Modular build: (One attempt to do something with a raised baseplate) C&C welcome.
