Nocturnus Minichallange III B: Brofendur's kitchen
Garmadon replied to The Maestro's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wow, very neat entry here, Maestro! The rock-work, stone, and wooden dwarven architecture somehow mix very well, and the crane and dragon are excellent as well! A very nice kitchen throughout, and it's neat to see an entry to this located in Mitgardia! You might not have the bricks to do it, but I would think that building the black border down all the way around would add a lot to the stability of the build, and would probably look a little better as well Overall, excellent build though!- 17 replies

Awesome build and excellent photography, Blaze, the dragon's color-scheme is superb, and the white spikes finish it off perfectly! The house is great as well (the cross above the doorway gives it a very Mitgardian feel!), and buildings nearby, as SK said, add a lot to the scene! A humorous story too - great to have you back building again!

AoM: Archery, Phase III: Mitgardian Marksman Tournament
Garmadon replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very nice build, SK! The terrain looks great - those brown flower pieces are so useful! - and the stands and minifigs are excellent as well! The small ballistas are superb too (I might have to borrow that design sometime! ), and the functionality always raises builds up a notch! Excellent phase III build!- 19 replies

Nocturnus Minichallenge III B: A Tasty Treat
Garmadon replied to LittleJohn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Excellent build, LJ, the ball hinge technique is really neat, and although I think it might be a bit over-textured for some builds, it works pretty well here - but the cabinet and those working drawers are just too cool! Very fun story as well, and the venus fly trap and minifigs are great as well, and that floor technique always looks awesome! Great work with the oven and curve on the floor as Kai mentioned too! -
Nocturnus minichallange l: Kelra's treachory
Garmadon replied to The Maestro's topic in Guilds of Historica
One of my favorite builds for this minichallenge, Maestro, the rocks and ruins are excellent (that tilt is really neat, and makes it look like the whole build is about to topple over into the abyss! ), and the minifig-posing and collapsing bridge are superb as well! The black water, rocks sticking out, and vegetation overgrowing everything add a lot to the atmosphere! Excellent job all around! -
Late to the party, but I'll agree with the others - excellent job on the snow and rock base here, Legofin, and the stonework is neat as well! I personally think that the corners and the section around the door looks fine, and probably wouldn't be too much of a problem architecturally, but the upper window does look a bit odd! Just about the coolest thing about this build has got to be the crow-keeper, though - splendid minifg-combo there!

I don't think so As the faction prizes are almost just straight DBs this challenge, though, the odd places don't really hurt any faction overmuch (and if we're a little behind some of the other factions in DBs [which we actually were before the challenge], Eslandola is whipping everybody when it comes to FIPs )
-
I was wondering if anyone would mention that - you guys have prevented me (in the old English sense of the word ). The fact is, the current way the faction places are decided does not, as you noted, have a sufficient quantity modifier, so hold your horses, and we'll be getting that fixed before the next challenge! Since it hadn't really made any difference in the placings of the last few challenges, it hadn't been noticed until now. As to how the places are calculated - the members places are a straight average of the judges' results, while the faction places are the average of the top five entries from each one. Hence the reason why the two do not necessarily reflect each other very well. See my answer to LS above for the faction ratings - but yes, you are right that the quantity does not yet weigh in enough on the results. Expect to see that taken care of in all future challenges However they are calculated, I'm afraid Corrington would have taken the island away without much difficulty though! The sistershipping rules would be the same as usual - you'd need to pay the licence fees again (well, for the first time, in this case - and the modifier too, if it's past the limit), but you would use the same MOC/ship

The three Letters of Marque are ready, and await the arrival of the respective captains of the vessels to pick them up in any port with an Eslandolan embassy or office By which, of course, I mean to say that the letters are granted, provided the ships make it safely through this latest MRCA (without attacking us meanwhile ).

A Quick Eslandolan Lesson on Profit!
Garmadon replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Actually, I find that even when the cloud cover isn't enough to get the build in the shade and you have to go with a make-shift shade maker ( ), they still help by bouncing the light off and making it a bit more diffused. Thanks SilentWolf! I certainly thought that the inclusion of the animals added a great deal to the build, and minifigure posing is always (except on windy days when they aren't actually attached! ) a lot of fun!- 13 replies

[ESL] The Bath of Pontelli
Garmadon replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Love those naval experiments, Captain B, and the whole bath looks quite elegant as well, with the white and gold (and the monkey heads! ) I really like the clock over the door and the stands above too! Excellent addition to Pontelli!- 12 replies

[ESL FB] Three Flowers Inn - Trador
Garmadon replied to Maxim I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wow, that flower roof really does look very neat here, Maxim, and though it and the brown and white color-scheme almost give it a gingerbread house look, that's not a bad thing at all! Maybe that has something to do with why the guests stay longer than planned as well! Looking forward to watching this settlement expand!- 6 replies

[COR - Octoberfest] Highland Sword Dancing
Garmadon replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice little build, Ayrlego, the facade is quite impressive, and the posing is perfect! My only suggestions would be to try to take the picture from a slight angle to avoid the cracks of white showing through the wall, and also perhaps to put another light tan plate under the roof - for some reason or another it seems to start oddly there, I can't quite put my finger on why though (and I'm really not quite sure that the plate would work either, but it might help! ) My other suggestion would be to try to include a door when doing a building facade like this - of course it's not always necessary, but I find that it generally adds more interest to the wall, and gives a better idea of what part of the building you are looking at. Those are just a few trifles, though, overall this is entry for a 12x12! -
I hadn't thought of that - I was under the impression that the free licences were only for members... if you've already been doing it that way for a long time and it would be hard to fix, we may as well just leave it like this though, since it really doesn't make all that great of a difference - and that's 25DBs more for us!

@Phred The ETWC licenced a small commerce in Pontelli about a week ago and it still hasn't gone through - no hurry about it, but I just thought I might let you know My guess would be that the reason would be because I added a note about the ESL commerce bonus (I wasn't quite sure if it was automated or not until Kai told me it was)

[COR - Oct FB3] Salt Pork Factory, Mooreton Bay
Garmadon replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Brilliant build, Ayrlego, awesome use of flesh hands, and the rest of the depiction and explanation of the process is simply excellent as well! As others have mentioned, the roof and slightly underground aspect of the building (great explanation of that too!) are a couple of other highlights here, and your photography and color-scheme also stand out as usual! Plus, the fact that you were inspired by other members' builds in the settlement is awesome as well! Great job, keep the builds like this coming!- 12 replies

Very nice build, Capt Wolf, the subdued color-scheme gives it a very elegant look, and the half-stud offsets and flower design on the top are just the details it needs! I'm not quite sure whether to wish that Guilder can find Guy's uncle there for you or not!
-
Very nice silver mine, Maxim, the silver ore goes really well with the light gray rocks, and of course, your guards are awesome as well!

A Quick Eslandolan Lesson on Profit!
Garmadon replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks all! Glad to see that the cut-away technique seems to have been a hit again! Thanks, Capt Wolf! I was actually originally planning on just turning the door around for the interior pictures, but after turning it around twenty times while building both sides I got tired of doing that and just polished off the backside a little! (Plus it wasn't quite correct when I did that as the handle would have been on the wrong side inside...) Glad you like it! Thanks a lot, Elostirion, glad you like it! The posing definitely was some fun! Ha, ha, I actually was thinking the same thing myself, and was originally planning on mentioning Captain Argentum in the story, and just forgot about it! The colors are always some of the most important things that go into a build, so I'm glad it seems to have worked well here! Thanks a lot, Ayrlego, and you're definitely right about dark green being awesome! And I only wish I had more time to build for the ETWC (at least Captain B does a great job picking up the slack! ) You keep saying that! And yes, I did (though the transaction didn't seem to have gone through yet for some reason the last time I checked). I was actually going to say exactly what Kai did about the camera - but she's certainly right that a big part of it is just taking pictures outside in the shade, or preferably on a cloudy day! Thanks Captain B!- 13 replies

[ESL] Proclamation of Pontelli
Garmadon replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hmm, I wonder what Captain Whiffo and his crew would say to this if they hadn't just sailed for Terelli... he thinks this whole declaring independence thing is a bit extreme and going too far (and bad for trade, of course! ) And are we about to get a third speaker? On to the build! - I really like that tan wall with the columns and the light texture from the masonry bricks, and the humongous lantern is neat as well! Keep up the builds! - though hopefully pretty soon things can calm down into less controversial spheres!- 7 replies

The Least Dreaded Pirates visit Astrapi
Garmadon replied to Capn Frank's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very nice build, Phred, the fore-and-aft sails and rigging look great, and the idea of having a ping-pong table and the other games on board is brilliant! I think I shall have to steal borrow that idea! Anyhow, it's great to see more pirate-y activity in BoBS even if their going straight to jail! The vineyards and wheel-wright's place look very nice as well, and the demolished pier is excellent! It's actually probably a good thing they just hit the pier instead of the rocks, now that I think of it... Keep it up! -
Letter of Marque to HUNT Eslandola Vessels
Garmadon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Capt Wolf, it works the same way as placing the maximum number of troops possible on a ship In short, if you were to place, say, two platoons on board your 5HA, your crew value would be doubled (I haven't just checked, by the way, so this example probably isn't too precise! ), and this provision only means that the Sea Rats holding a letter of Marque will have have their crew value doubled without having to pay for it.
