Nicely done. This unfortunately (or fortunately) looks similar to my own modded Cafe and Bike Shop. Obviously great minds think alike ;). Also, it is a similar base so naturally a lot of people will have similar looking facades. I do like the roofing of course. It works well. The gray stonework flanking the sides works well. The interior of course is fitting for the theme of the building. I really like the shop owner's room up top. Keep up the good work. Modulars are certainly addictive. I really need to get a camera to put all of mine on Eurobricks!

[MOC] Game of Thrones - The Iron Throne Room
TheLegoDr replied to WiredIT's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm too much of a purist I think. The overall throne room works well, but too many non-LEGO pieces for my taste. It's more fun for me to create things only using LEGO to see what I can come up with. I'd also love to see purist GoT figures, but I know how difficult that is. Did you make or purchase these custom figures? (also, they do make a Sean Bean figure head considering he was Boromir). -
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3811&in=S They do exist, but not currently in production. Considering they still make baseplates, there is always the possibility they will release that color again, but only LEGO knows what their plans are.

Neat, classic architecture. I think this fits in quite well with most themes. It isn't too over-stylized, but it does resemble a castle. Kudos.! I've been wanting to build a castle and I have some neat ideas, but I always get sidetracked. I should buckle down to make one. This is a fair competitor.

This is brilliant. After watching Book of Life, this looks incredible. I hadn't thought much to do any MOCs involving this, but my daughter does like making masks out of paper. Maybe a LEGO creation would be up her alley.

Not to come off as rude, but isn't this just the official set? What was the purpose for this post? The set itself is neat, I agree.

Scrolling through this list, I last posted in 2013 and had less than 1400. I look at Brickset now 3 years later and it says 2272...so 300 a year or so. That sounds ridiculous! Good thing I've curbed my spending this year.

It was available Wednesday, then I finally got money from my mom because she was buying it for my daughter. I try later that day, sold out...drats! I called yesterday and the lady said they had some available, but weren't listed online, so I was still able to order one. So if you need one, and it says sold out online, it might help to call? I've never done it before, so that was a first for me. I am excited to see it in the flesh, but at the same time I am sick to my stomach spending that much on ONE set...

It will be interesting to see how Batgirl/Harley's hair will be on a minifigure with that bang in the middle. It might cover more print since there is less forehead on a minifigure head. Either way, they look decent. I could see my daughter wanting them, but at the same time I could see her passing. She likes the variety in dress skirts for the minifigure, so who knows.

I will have to wait for reviews. The pictures aren't doing them justice for me. The only one I would be interested in would be Batgirl maybe. My daughter might want all of them, but she is also on an Elves kick right now, so only so much money to spend on LEGO.

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
The bowtie piece is interesting, but I agree it will ruin the torso without it. It is just like the belt piece. It looks interesting, but you HAVE to have it to complete that torso. Unfortunately, it is like having a yellow skin showing on a torso when you want to use it for Licensed (and vice versa). Oh well, I guess. Not much to be done about it. But it will be good to have an Alfred and another Bruce Wayne. Although (and I'm sure this has been mentioned) why is Bruce Wayne's hair speckled black? You can clearly tell it is different from the all black bowtie piece. That might look weird too. And I'm assuming Alfred will have a shirt collar piece around his neck? -
I think because of you only using pieces in your collection, the colors are all over. If there was some more consistency, then it would be different. Eclectic is definitely the right word here. I like the tailor main floor colors and awning. I am curious on the Mexican restaurant on the transition between the first two levels, how did you do the dark bley area? It looks like a 1x1 round tile sticking out?

Using only hinges, it is very tight and without a lot of added weight from the upper floors, it will either pop off the underlying plate OR that part of the baseplate will rise up a little because of the intolerance. The angle is just a bit off so it won't fit perfectly as was stated before. Also, to get the angle right, the sides are different. One sidewalk is 7 studs deep and the other side is 8 studs deep. I prefer total symmetry. I may have to think differently. I thought about doing away with the hinges, but then I'm not sure how it will connect together very sturdily.

^I'm sure if years go by, then yes. But that set is relatively new. I would think you'd be okay to request the fix it bag. I bought mine when it first came out and built it this summer. Floppy neck syndrome galore, so I talked to their CS and they sent out a new bag and instruction page showing where to put the new pieces. I might have done something wrong since I didn't even use all of the pieces they sent me to fix it, but it holds its position much better now.

After seeing that photo months ago, I had decided that is what I wanted to do with my Brick Bank. But I haven't done it yet because I have to wait until Christmas to actually get it...so sometime after that, I will see what I can come up with. I might try to build a moc-up of something else entirely to see how the pieces work together before I do anything, but if I can make it work, then I'll go for it. I already built a hinged Forestman MOC that worked just fine, so I will have to see what I need to move around to make this work because I love the angled nature instead of a blocky corner building.

Incredible. The tiny details are remarkable and I am impressed beyond words. Looking at stock photos of it on google, you nailed it. You should be proud. This would show well at a convention. I really need to figure out a neat building so I can do something in that scale. It does sound challenging and fun. Also, I love the trains. They look detailed enough at that scale. Now I just need to figure out how to build an actual engine at that scale for my mini Hogwarts Express.

Clever idea. I think I will use black hose/gun pieces and change out the dark blue (even though I love that LEGO color). Next step, build a building that could utilize the new office chair.

LEGO Elves 2017 Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Those look interesting. My daughter has liked the series so far. I'm sure she will be thrilled to see some new sets for it. This hobby is expensive as it is, without kids. I'd highly recommend everyone to not let their kids get involved in LEGO... -
Force Friday (30th September) promotions
TheLegoDr replied to Richpepperell's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I know. It is interesting how they place value on an item based on their bookkeeping records, yet the actual market value is so different. I'm guessing if each figure was valued at 4.99 and was sold by itself via LEGO, they would never sell any sets. -
I know of the character, but never have seen the movie. But the build by itself looks very interesting and well thought out. Good use of parts for sure. The whole build is very smooth and seamless. I'm guessing my daughter would probably like seeing this.

Force Friday (30th September) promotions
TheLegoDr replied to Richpepperell's topic in LEGO Star Wars
If you read the fine print, those people at Bricklink are ripping us off! It is only valued at $4.99 But it is nice that they are able to redo this promo. I'm guessing they had a lot extra and need to get rid of them? I doubt they made them again, but I don't know their production cycle. And it says current Star Wars line. Does that mean 2015 sets aren't eligible, or as long as it is on the website? Either way, I'll find out next Friday I guess. -
For the last 4 years I've made sure to get the brick Friday and other Christmas themed set...but I think I will put a stop to that this year. I am not in love with either that I HAVE to have it. And with double points at a different time, I'll just order then. But thanks for posting! It is always good to see what is coming up.

They aren't waving..they are holding onto the "oh (insert expletive here)" handles. Lovely build. Really captures the scene.

Are you (insert expletive here) kidding me?? Haha, I was browsing through online a few weeks back and saw there were very few Benny's X-Wing renditions, so I thought I would try my hand at one. I was originally doing UCS scale also...and now you post one..grr! This looks phenomenal. I guess I can scrap my project now. It really captures the classic space feel with new build techniques. Keep up the great work!

Another well done building. Do you have all of them still together? It'd be interesting to see them next to each other, especially with this being a 4 story building. I see where you are going with the roof, but I agree, sand green would match the color better. But this does add an interesting touch. The dark orange and the white are used well together. I like the snot work with the white trim in the middle area, but it almost feels like too much white in that area because of it. Maybe it's just me. The window details work well. The interior works well too. I usually struggle with filling out the interior these days. So much that I end up just giving up. Maybe I should finish the interiors of some of my builds I've done recently.
