[MOC] GMC Hummer EV
Aurorasaurus replied to _Electro_'s topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Impressive to fit such functionality into such a small model. Can you share a photo of the underside of the model? I'm guessing you're using 12t bevel gears and dual drivelines. Do the wheels come off? They appear to have no bushes keeping them on. Or maybe you tape-tricked them? I'm also really curious how robust it is, can you pick it up by the roof? Anyway, it looks nice quite cleverly constructed, well done. -
I love this model, I think it is a great balance between price and performance, using accessible parts. How is the driveability with the CV joint in the steering train? Does the caster angle feel like its compensating for the U joint? Would you keep the caster angle and slight slop in the steering for the realism if you did it again?

[MOC] Claas Cougar 1400
Aurorasaurus replied to Jundis's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm really impressed, the way it folds up made me think it was a spaceship for a second. The bodywork looks very clean, and yet I can see many functions. Playability and looks is a great combo. I think you should be proud of this one, I genuinely wouldn't know where to start on a model like this. -

I like this, the use of those wheel pieces for the pot is clever too.- 761 replies

It's much more cost effective than custom stickers, and will allow me to get exactly the look i want. As for parts availability, 64394 and its partner arent available in regular blue, and neither are 64682 and its partner, to name just a couple parts. And, painting is something fun I can do with my family. However, I completely understand where you're coming from, a year or 2 ago I would have said the same.

Does anyone have experience painting their models? I am thinking I might like to paint one of mine due to some parts not existing in the colors I want. Is there any specific types of paints I should use? Should I treat the plastic like a 3d print before painting (sandpaper, wood filler, sandpaper)? Am I better to paint on top of white pieces or black pieces, for a vibrant look? Or would a couple white base coats be just as good? Any help or other experiences would help a lot, thanks!

[WIP] Classic Dump Truck XL

Nice progress, the front cab looks great. I hope the pneumatics work out for you. (I can see all the photos) -
I found a video today showing many custom parts, intended for use in brushless models. I thought I should share it, it seemed to be a good idea bank. As for my own wheel hubs I showed last time, I now have given them plenty of abuse and nothing on them broke, and the amount of play is the same. Now the challenge is to find the optimal mounting points for the steering links and upper/lower arms. Any suggestions?

General Part Discussion
Aurorasaurus replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I actually use this frequently enough that I'd be annoyed if it was retired, it definitely has its uses. But for everything else, I completely agree. Especially the wheel hubs/differentials.- 5,464 replies

I like this one more. It feels a lot cleaner than the colored one. I also like the more technic body a lot more than the old one. Very nice!

In the past week, I finally got around to making instructions for one of my favorite models: Hammerhead. (called so because I thought it looked like the fish) I've had this model for >3 months now, and thought it was finally time to share about it a little bit. I will make a full post for it soon enough, but for now I would love it if some people could have a look through the instructions and tell me any problems you see with them. Because I designed it, I will never see these problems the way others can. It runs on 2x buwizz 3.0s, and 4x buwizz motors geared 12:20 from the fast output, 2 per rear wheel. Live axle rear suspension, independent front suspension. I feel that the chassis even looks somewhat realistic, it has some complex angles and is very robust indeed. Hammerhead is on the left here, the other one is a failure. Instructions Studio file A few more photos

That looks great, I feel like you captured the front of the car very well. It feels fast, just from the photo.

@Variteck Nice to see some progress, have you tested these outside yet? On another note, does anyone have a solution for getting a secondary motor, for a winch/other motorized function working with a brushless setup? I can attach gray geekservos to my receiver but they still act as servos not motors, which I guess is to be expected.

I'd consider myself closer to the general technic audience than the other people I see on here - I dont have much enthusiasm for construction sets, at the price Lego sells them for. But I think the general technic audience will never get tired of cars, because the group will change, new customers come and old customers move on to other expensive display items. So sadly, I don't see Lego moving away from cars in technic.
