  1. I see, you are not a fan of stickers or prints for road surface marking :D
  2. Fair enough, but the same goes for direct drive. My point was: for the sum of the motors, some power goes unused on the substractor gearbox, where on the direct one, most time you use full power.
  3. As always neat design and it's just great we have innovators like you to push the boundaries of simple, effective designs :-) Then I give two totally biased opinions in favor of the direct drive :-P - As one of the "cons" on the substractor design I would add "less power". You can just use 1 motor for propulsion instead of 2. - For the "cons" of the direct drive you name "no simple way to connect a piston engine". The statement depends on the definition of "simple". You can connect a diff between the two driveshafts. Of course, if you turn with counter movement of the motors, the fake engine stops, but the same thing happen when you only use the turning motor on the subtractor.
  4. Always a struggle with those cables... either too short or too long... Really looking forward to the final model, keep up the good work! :-)
  5. While I can't argue with that (I'm not active on FB), maybe you take serious comments, trying to improve your build, too negative. At least from my experience, this forum is very helpful and all around very kind. Even if there are some negative comments, I've never read one just saying "this is bad", but trying to give a constructive critique. Regarding the main topic, and as many said before, there are many perfectionists here. So we rarely see a MOC with sub-mediocre quality here. Compare that for example to Lego Ideas, where there are countless models built by children and at least get 100+ votes and 20+ positive comments. And as I am feeling the whole benchmark is rising here in EB over the years, maybe more newcomers think their model doesn't meet the high standards and therefor hesitate to post MOCs. I am sorry that you got that impression, but bigger isn't always better. And it is one thing to moc a big machine and the other one to moc a big machine with very good working functions. I think that cars are just way more accessable than e.g. heavy machinery, which I don't get, because functionality is always sexier :D
  6. Thanks @Jurss I just checked for [TC1], [TC2], ... and didn't find anything :D Given that information, my 2cents about new themes for contests: In the [TC18] and [TC19] contests, I really liked that there were definitive restrictions for the models (scale, theme), which imho is easier to compare them in a competitive way. I also really liked that new/updated Lego elements or sizes inspired a challend like the pneumatic elements 2.0 [TC10] pullback-motors [TC13] or the mini car series [TC18]. With the highly anticipated tractor tires (maybe new ones in 81.6 coming in summer wave?) a challenge for farming machinery would be nice :-)
  7. Really love this thing, great work! Espeacially the quick change mechanism is on one hand so easy and on the other hand so functional. For the pitchfork mechanism: In the video at 3:13, the black 7L liftarm shifts in a strange position, which maybe looks the mechanism from working again? Maybe it helps just to put in 2 pins on the upper end of this liftarm like an end-stop?
  8. Is there an overview available, what all the contests have been so far? :-)
  9. Congratulations for the winners, well deserved :-) @johncarpenter Dito!
  10. Still unsure as I've never tried to build such things... @Jim: Would there be a kind of a part or a size limit? Otherwise I think the biggest (and therefor size-wise-most-impressive) builds would win, while new users with less parts/money available won't stand a chance. But this is just my humble opinion.
  11. What a surprising B-model, very well built! Both creative and nice designed :-)
  12. Front and rear will give a tighter radius. Front and middle is better for fast moving machines like wheeled tanks.
  13. The easiest and cheapest solution with Lego components will be to go to bricklink and order a battery box (link) and a L-motor (link). According to your ID, you live in portugal, so you can maybe use this seller (link) to get both for around 15€.
  14. Hi @brandaopj and welcome on board. Can you be more specific in your question? I am assuming you have a technic car without any electric motors but with a gearbox (like the 42115) and you want to test, if the shifting of gears really do something on the fake motor in the car?
  15. My guess would be the fourth one for diff lock.
  16. "A work of art is never finished, merely abandoned." - Leonardo Da Vinci As I am also rather in the group of perfectionists than the ones who build fast, I feel some times that I can really say to my self: This (sub-)assembly is so good, I leave it this way. This feeling occurs, when both the function and the looks go well together. In an early semester in mechanical engineering, a professor ones said: "what looks good works well" and this really is the top premise when building MOCs. Maybe the perfectionism lies in the perfect balance between looks and functions. Adding to that, this really takes many iteration steps in some cases. If I am really stuck on a model, I start a new one and wait for enough inspiration to go to the older one again.
  17. Always put's a smile on my face to see your creativity for these builds :-) Afaik, the 42100 was given the working title "Elephant" .... we are waiting! :D
  18. It's really amazing how your effort has improved this MOC! As I am not a big car fan, at first I thought this was a really mediocre MOC, but now your model really represents all the recognizable lines of the original :-) Two little suggestions: You can maybe use the liftarm part at the middle part of the end of the roof Can you add a roof rack like in the first pics of the real car? :-)
  19. Very nice review, thanks a lot :-) What puzzles me is why the knobs are placed in that order (back end and right side). Does it feel better from a playability standpoint? I would have unterstand to both place them in the back OR left and right side. It even feels like they surely had the shovel operation separated from the front boom at some point but it because of complexity or design purposes.
  20. 26: 10 1: 6 5: 4 24: 3 17: 2 12: 1 It was really a tough decision with so many good models, good luck to all the contestants! :-)
  21. Another great skid steer model :-) You definetly need the new chevron jeep here :-P
  22. What a great clean build! I also loved the wheely :-) Exactly my first thought
  23. Please not again a car... looking at the list 2021 again: 42116 --> Construction Vehicle 42117 --> Plane 42118 --> Car 42119 --> Car 42120 --> Boat 42121 --> Construction Vehicle 42122 --> Car 42123 --> Car 42124 --> Car 42125 --> Car 42126 --> Car? 42127 --> Car (highly likely a companion for 42111) 42128 --> Truck 42129 --> Truck 42130 --> ?? 42121 --> Construction Vehicle
  24. Dito! Great job for this scale. Also I really like how you tried to avoid blue pins as much as possible and the fast movement of the cylinders :-)
