  1. Really pleased to say my project, The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine is on display at Birmingham NEC in the UK, for the next 3 days (9th-11th November) at "The Classic Motor Show". The model is part of the FBHVC show stand. So if anyone is visiting The Motor Show over the weekend, you can see my model on display in Hall 5 right next to the Discovery Channel Live Stage. They have even set up a system where a member of the FBHVC can help visitors to vote for the model on the spot! Here are some pictures of the display, I've been helping to set up at Birmingham NEC.

  3. Wow, that's seriously impressive. There are some great Ideas projects that have just been launched over the past few weeks, including this beautiful Piano project which is doing very well indeed! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/a4e4413f-8488-4551-ac9d-9e7f8c35154e
  4. It would be great if they could give us some little teaser images with subtle clues as to the subject of the next set. They did this recently with the winter village fire station so why not use the same method to promote and build up anticipation for the next modular?
  5. It does seem as if LEGO are scraping the barrel a bit with these sky police sets and trying to come up with new ideas for Police scenarios each year. Having said that I reckon kids will absolutely love these though. One of the sets rumored to be coming out was a small Police Patrol Car 60239. Have images of this one leaked yet? I'm wondering if this one will be connected to the Sky Police theme or just a generic Police car.
  6. Just wanted to share a couple of great looking Modulars that are both alterative builds to existing LEGO sets. The Costume Shop by Lucas Bolt This is a great looking alternate build of 71040 Disney Castle. Book Shop by Inyong Lee This an alternate build of the Modular Pet Shop and another classic by @Inyongbricks There will be a long wait I'm afraid as promoting my Lego Ideas Traction Engine is taking up so much of my time. I have got plans to build a new Modular follow up to my Post Office though so I'm hoping to get cracking on that soon.
  7. Further back in this topic around end of September @AllanSmith mentioned he'd been told that the next modular would be a garage with a vet on the second floor. Was this rumor ever disproved?
  8. Think I've found the source of those chinese minifigs. I've just seen a new leaked image of a set called "Chinese New Years Eve Dinner". On the picture it seems to include one of those chinese minifigs (the little girl). It looks like it is possibly a promotional set of some kind and the text on the image says it will be available from 1st January. EDIT: There is a second chinese set too called "Dragon and Lion Dance."
  9. I agree, that water in is really impressive. This is a very pretty build! I've been trying to work out the best way to produce a thatched roof on a future MOC I've been planning, and this has given me some great inspiration! Love this one!
  10. When I mentioned 3 in 1 modular buildings I was referring to sets like 31069 and not the large Creator Expert Modulars. These Creator 3 in 1 Buildings have separate modules that can be broken apart and re-assembled in to different shapes and formats. All the current Creator buildings seem to have adopted this new "module" system and they're not really compatible alongside the old foldable Creator 3 in 1 buildings like 31026 you mentioned in your original post.
  11. If the text in the middle is related to the shop selling them, then does that suggest that they are already for sale? If that's the case I wonder if these are custom minifigures and not official ones. I've been thinking more about the idea of whether these could be part of the next modular. They do seem to be a just a generic Chinese family and don't look as if they've got specific roles or jobs connected to any particular theme of building. Considering that most Moduars, have around 5 or 6 minifigures included then that would mean that these three characters would take up half of the total minifigs for the new set. It would only leave space for 2 or 3 other figures to represent all the workers, business owners etc that we'd normally see in the modular buildings.
  12. Thanks very much, pleased you like them. And thanks for the tip about swapping the parts. Yes that one you suggested might look a bit more discreet, especially at this small scale.
  13. When I checked online earlier this afternoon some fairly decent quality images had leaked showing sky police, the harvest transporter, the small Digger/front loader and the snow machine (not sure of its proper name). Just checked again though and the images have now been taken down.
  14. The harvest transporter looks pretty great! Another shot shows what looks like the bottom half of the garbage truck. Hard to tell much about that one at this point. I really like the look of the little front loader vehicle and the snow vehicle.
  15. Not sure I believe they're from the next modular either. Normally the figures in the modular sets would have a specific role in the set itself, for example the boxer and singer in DD, the dentist, baker etc in Assembly Square. There chinese figures just look like generic people and there is nothing about them that suggests they'd have a role to play in any kind of Chinese set, whether it be a hotel, restaurant, tea house or whatever, apart from the fact they're Chinese of course. Having said this I could definitely imagine Lego going down this route and producing a Chinese modular, so we will have to wait and see. I do wonder if it would clash with Ninjago though, assuming they might release another modular style follow up to Ninjago City docks next summer. Out of interest I wonder what the translation is of the Chinese words on the minifig pics and could that suggest the purpose of these figs?
  16. Thanks @paupadros if the modular does turn out to be chinese based then I wondered if there might be something in the design of the figures that provided a clue to the theme of the set. But they just look like fairly generic Chinese people to me. Not sure what to think about a chinese modular building. It worries me that Downtown Diner might have started a trend where each year we will see the modular buildings diverting further and further away from their original style.
  17. I've not seen these Asian style minifigs. Can anyone suggest where to find them online?
  18. After 31026 was released it was followed up by 3 other small creator buildings that could all sit side by side in a similar way to the large modular buildings but on a smaller scale. First was the toy and grocery shop, then we had the corner deli and finally in 2017 the Park street Town House. Unfortunately all these sets are now retired and lego seems to have switched the style of their creator 3 in1 buildings to the new modular style where all the sections can be swapped around to create alternate versions of the building. It's a real shame as those small creator buildings were great little sets and almost like miniature cousins to the full size creator expert buildings.
  19. I'm a bit disappointed by this. I like to upload pictures to Flickr quite often. I've used about half of the allowance I think but have only been on it since February. I like the interface of Flickr and the way you can easily link pictures in to forums and on to other sites. Instagram is a good way of sharing pictures but they get compressed pretty badly and don't think it's possible to link or download pictures from Instagram. I use MOCpages but find it quite cumbersome and dated compared to other sites. Does anyone on here use Bricksafe? Is that a good alternative to Flickr? Also what about Brickshelf? I have been trying to set up an account on there for weeks. Every time I try, it fails to let me create an account saying there are server problems and that I should try later.
  20. Another good thing with John Lewis is that they will often price match other retailers. So if the price drops at Smyths or the LEGO store you can send them a request to lower their price too. I have been thinking of buying DO for quite a while but in the end have always decided on other sets instead. Unfortunately I can't afford to buy loads of expensive sets so often find myself prioritising the ones I like best. I am hoping the new modular for 2019 will blow my socks off and have got the money put aside to buy it. But if it turns out to be a another building in the style of the Diner I reckon I'll definitely go for DO instead.
  21. I think you're doing the right thing. Even if the status does shift to "retiring soon" on the Lego store, you'll still have a bit of time left to get it. Also even if it sells out there you can still buy it in the UK from John Lewis and Smyths toys who are currently selling it for £139 anyway. I reckon you'd be best to wait till Black Friday. It might well be reduced in prce and you'd get the free Christmas set with then as well. I'm a bit torn myself. I can only afford to buy one modular at the minute and I have been holding on to see what the new set is going to be. If I don't like the new one I was planning on spending the money on Detectives Office instead.
  22. Well it's not actually been confirmed as retiring yet. I posted about this over on the Brickset forum yesterday and some of the guys on there have pointed out that it only says "Many retiring soon". It doesn't say which sets specifically will be retiring. I just thought it was odd that Detectives Office has been included on this page instead of in the section with all the other modulars. And as someone else pointed out to me, it doesn't necessarily confirm anything because Brick Bank is the only modular to not be featured in the catalogue at all. . I don't really know what to suggest. I do think that it's very likely that one of the modulars will be retired over the next couple of months and the fact that Detectives Office is on this page would suggest to me that this will be the next one to go. And just one other thing I've noticed - Both Detectives Office and the Ferris Wheel have suddenly gone out of stock on the US version of the Lego store website. That doesn't necessarily mean anything though, it might just be people panic buying as a result of seeing the new catalogue.
  23. I think a police station could work well as a modular. I think if they did one then the most obvious setting would be a stereotype American type of building. I know a European one could still work but I just feel that an American setting would lend itself much better to a Lego set and provide lots of little storylines and pop culture references that would work well in a modular. For this reason I don't think they'll give us a police station this year. DD was such a heavily Americanised set, that I don't think they'll follow it up with another American themed model. Just my guess though!
  24. I would say Assembly Square is definitely the best out of the three. Downtown Diner is good, I actually finished building my copy last Saturday and it was a great fun model to build with some interesting techniques. The finished model just doesn't have the same wow factor as Assembly Square though in my opinion.
