Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Further to my post yesterday showing the catalogue page suggesting DO might be retiring soon - it's worth pointing out that Brick Bank is the only current modular that isn't featured anywhere in the catalogue at all. I still think this indicates that DO will be the next one to retire though, otherwise surely it would have been on the same page as all the other modulars. -
Detective's Office, Brick Bank and Tower Bridge retiring soon?
Bricked1980 replied to brickmeistro's topic in LEGO Town
@brickmeistro I would probably suggest making Detectives Office your next purchase. I've just received the Lego store Christmas catalogue in the post. Rather than being shown on the page with other modulars, Detectives Office is on the page with sets that are retiring soon.- 51 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I'd always assumed that We might not get a modular police station whilst Detectives Office is still on the shelves. However earlier today I received the new Lego store Christmas catalogue in the post. It looks like DO is going to be the next modular to get the chop. Rather than being shown on the page with the other modular buildings, it is shown on the page with sets that are retiring soon. -
No, it's just an amateur design that I made last June.

Sorry to disappoint but contrary to rumors that have been going round since August, this is definitely not an official set. It's just a MOC I designed!

Well I hope this years set doesn't turn out to be another restaurant, that would mean 3 currently available modulars that are food establishments. -
Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
I've just been checking back over the City 2018 rumors thread from last year. It looks as if rumors started going around much much earlier. Sir Von Lego had told us we'd be getting new trains, mountain police and mining sets as far back as July last year. Then the first pictures started to leak around 20th August 2018 with early pics of some of the mountain police animals and some of the Great Vehicles sets. I think most of the leaks last year came from product catalogues that Lego distribute to their retail partners. They have obviously tightened up their security massively this year and are doing all they can to prevent leaks. Surely they must still be sending catalogues out to retailers though so that they know what products will be on their shelves in 2019. -
I'm pleased you like them. Thanks a lot. For anyone who likes these models you might also be interested to see the new images I've just uploaded to my topic for The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine. I've just completed work on the brick built version of the model. Previously I'd only built the engine but now I've added pictures of the entire finished model.

[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
BRICK BUILT MODEL - NOW FINISHED A few weeks ago I posted some pictures of the brick built version of my Traction Engine. The engine only makes up half of the proposed set though. The LEGO IDEAS submission also includes a wagon and several other sides builds as well. I have now completed work on the brick built versions of the entire model. Hope you like these pictures. If you haven't done so already I'd be really grateful if you could please spare a few moments to head over to LEGO IDEAS and vote for the model. https://lego.build/2vRfVGL Many thanks!- 65 replies

Only just seen this! Wow the brick version looks so beautiful. the final shot looking down the aisle towards the alter looks almost real and doesn't even look as if it's made from LEGO!

Detective's Office, Brick Bank and Tower Bridge retiring soon?
Bricked1980 replied to brickmeistro's topic in LEGO Town
That set has been around for ages. It must be a good seller for it to have endured this long but it's age must mean it's on the list to be retired soon. I might be wrong but I can't imagine them retiring it without a new set being released to fill it's spot. So perhaps next year if a new Creator Expert landmark set come out, then they might retire Tower Bridge to make way for the new one.- 51 replies

Detective's Office, Brick Bank and Tower Bridge retiring soon?
Bricked1980 replied to brickmeistro's topic in LEGO Town
I think there is definitely a risk that Detectives Office could be retired although logically I would expect Parisian Restaurant to get the chop first. I wouldn't worry too much about Brick Bank at this point as it was only released in 2016. Personally I reckon I'd wait and see what happens at Black Friday. Last year Brick Bank was reduced to £99 from the Lego Store and you'd also get the free festive set (whatever that turns out to be this year).- 51 replies

Yes actually your deal from the LEGO store does look better and you get the free gift thrown in as well. Not to mention the great customer service you get buying directly from LEGO. Whist we're on the subject of LEGO deals though there does seem to be some cracking promotions going on at the moment. I recently picked up the Creator 3 in 1 Surfer Camper van for just £12.50 from Tesco. I've also got my eye on the new LEGO City "Capital" set that's just been released. This is on offer for just £79.99 from Argos, reduced from £120.- 51 replies

If you're looking for a good discount on Creator Expert sets and buying from the UK then I would check out Smyths toys. They currently have a voucher promotion that takes £12 off any item over £100. So you could get Detectives Office for £130 or Brick Bank for just £117. You'd need to be quick though as the voucher ends tomorrow. https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/voucher-web- 51 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I don't think there is anything stopping people from submitting modulars to that Bricklink scheme. The only potential barrier is that the part count has to be no more than 2000 parts. So the models would have to be potentially quite small or as a you suggest, maybe 16 studs wide. I think this scheme will work quite differently to LEGO Ideas. People can submit their entries up until the deadline during November. After this all the models will be reviewed and a selection of them will be made public around next February. It then turns in to a sort of crowd funding system where people can place pre-orders for the different models. Only the models that reach at least 10,000 dollars worth of pre-orders will be produced and sold though. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we do see some unofficial modulars being released as a result of this scheme. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I've been asked quite a bit so I'm hoping to get round to it at some point. I'm fairly new to making MOCs though and haven't tackled making instructions yet. Designing instructions for a modular would be a pretty complex job I reckon so it will take me a bit of time to get it done. Well I suppose everybody has different tastes. Modular buildings always seem to be popular on there amongst voters and I'm sure they would sell well if they were released. So I can only imagine Lego don't release them because they want to maintain the unique, once a year release for the models. Perhaps they think that if they released them more often, it could water down their appeal to some extent. Speaking of LEGO Ideas there is a minifig scale Traction Engine on there at the minute that would work very well in a city layout alongside modular buildings. It's just crying out for votes! -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks a lot! Thanks very much! I wish that Lego would release more than one modular each year too but sadly I don't think they will any time soon. Just look at some of the excellent modular designs that have made it through to the review stage on LEGO Ideas. None of them have ever been selected for production before and I think if LEGO were open to the idea of releasing an extra modular during the year then we would have seen some of those LEGO Ideas models being produced by now. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks guys! Yes that is my MOC. That fake box image has been floating around since August. At the time I had recently joined Instagram and had been posting pictures of my MOCs including several of the Post Office. I had received a few comments from people saying that they liked the model and wished it could be an official modular. So I posted that box image as a joke in response to those comments. I made it very clear in my picture title and caption that the image was fake though and didn't try to pretend it was a leaked image. I'd only got a small amount of followers on Instagram and didn't expect the response that picture would get. It started to attract comments from people who had clearly not read my picture caption and were convinced it was a legit image of the next modular. So I deleted the picture after it had only been online for about 2 hours. Despite this, other people have gotten hold of the picture and have been sharing it online ever since claiming it to be an exclusive scoop on the next modular. It seems to have become a favourite topic amongst various instagram and facebook posters and bloggers who are using it just as a way to get as many followers and likes as they can. Yes the picture is essentially just the DD box art but with my model slapped over the top. -
Thank you very much @LEGO Train 12 Volts and @harnbak Glad you like the models.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Personally I'd quite like something in a similar style to DO or AS. I'm a big fan of the sets that give the impression of being 2 or more buildings on a single base plate. -

Yes I think it will be a snow machine. Further back in this thread 60222 was listed "Pisten Bully". So maybe the set will resemble something like this. -
[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I've created a new MOC called "Miniature Steam Machines". It's a collection of 3 mini scale steam engines and is intended to be a kind of side project to accompany and help promote "The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine". If you're interested in seeing more pictures and reading more about these models then I have created a topic about them over in the Train forum.- 65 replies

Thanks very much! I tried to fit in as much detail as I could and each engine has even got miniature controls inside the cab. I've used a 1x2 technic brick with the hole on the side representing a tiny firebox. I also find that minifig paint roller handles are very useful for representing various pipes etc on steam engines. Think the Showman's Engine is my favourite too, even though someone on Twitter mentioned that it looks a bit like a sideways bi-plane Thanks a lot. The Traction Engine is supposed to be a miniature version of my LEGO IDEAS project, called The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine Thank you. I hadn't considered that. Being small models I'm not sure they'd create enough interest but it's worth a try I guess. I'd need to rebuild them using the Bricklink Stud.io software if I wanted to submit them.
