Thanks very much, and glad you've managed to sign back in. By the way, just to let you know the link in your signature is broken. I assume it should link to your Ideas project, but just brings up an error code when I click it. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
After some detailed research I have managed to isolate the key factor that will guarantee a successful and swift rise to 10,000 votes for any LEGO Ideas project. So I have therefore adapted my project to reflect these findings. Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to present "Elon Musks' Space X Traction Engine". I'm expecting 10,000 votes by this tomorrow please guys! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2a2ec583-9836-4868-8dc7-6b3bb0a2fe80 -
Thomas the Tank Engine and The Lego Group
Bricked1980 replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sorry to shamelessly plug my LEGO Ideas project here, but my model could kind of fit in to this category. Not a train but a traction engine that shares the same basis as Trevor The Traction Engine. Now if this could build up enough votes then it would be a good way of delivering a message to TLG that there would be a market for sets based on steam engines. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2a2ec583-9836-4868-8dc7-6b3bb0a2fe80 The model submission on Ideas obviously doesn't feature a face but I have produced this mock up showing it re-styled as Trevor.- 75 replies

@Blondie-Wan those stats are very interesting to read. Thanks for sharing that. I noticed you have set up a topic about this in the Embassy. How will it work exactly. Is it simply a case of anyone can post their projects on there but in order to do it you have to vote for all other projects in the thread as well? I can imagine this would work ok to start with but if loads of people started adding their projects then it would be quite painstaking to sift through the entire topic voting for every project one by one. I wonder if it would be possible to create a list of all the projects in the first comment in the thread. It could be updated every time somebody adds a new project. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion

Just wondered. Does anyone have any decent methods they use to promote their Ideas projects? I use Instagram to show pictures of my mocs. Have only had an account since July but now I've started to gain more followers I've noticed I get a few extra votes every time I post a pic of my Traction Engine on there. I've tried posting on Reddit with mixed success and people don't seem to like it if you post about the same thing more than once, so Reddit, in my experience can only get you so far. I've also been using Twitter but I'm finding it hard to build up a big enough following for my tweets to have enough impact. The only obvious thing I've not tried yet is Facebook. I don't have a Facebook account and not sure I want to set one up purely to promote my Ideas project. Can anyone recommend any other good methods? I was thinking about trying Imgur or Pinterest but I've no experience at all with either of these. Does anybody here use those sites and do you think these could be good places to showcase Lego Ideas projects? -

I've also noticed that previous staff picks seem to be randomly appearing at the top of the homepage replacing the previous " "top" listing which I believe was implemented to try and give new projects a better chance. My project has never been staff picked before and it's my first time on Lego Ideas so not really sure how they select staff picks. Are there certain criteria that have to be met and is there anything we can do to boost our chances of being picked? -

When I've had a problem in the past and had to contact them, it took about 2 days before they got back to me. I bet if you don't hear back today though then it will end up being Monday at the earliest. This is a major hassle to be honest, I wonder why they've even introduced this code system, it's just another thing that might put people off voting. On most days I tend to get between 10 and 20 votes. Yesterday I had 5 votes though and today only 1 so far. Has anyone else has noticed a drop in votes since the update on Wednesday? If so I wonder if this is because people are struggling to log on to the site. Thanks very much. -
I volunteer for the Mountsorrel Railway and Heritage Centre. http://heritage-centre.co.uk/ This is a small quarry branch line that had been closed since the 1950's. About 10 years ago the local community got together and re-laid 2 miles of track along the original track bed and built up a heritage centre/museum within the site of the old quarry. The branch line is standard gauge and connects to the Great Central Railway (the only preserved main line railway in the UK). But in the base of the old quarry is a small section of narrow gauge track which is used for shunting demonstrations using that small yellow diesel in the photo. I confess I am less of a hands on volunteer and my work is more behind the scenes stuff. I do all the graphic design, promotional and marketing stuff for them.

I didn't have any issues with my activation code after I'd signed back in on Wednesday but it does sound as if quite a few people are in the same boat as you. I've just looked back at the email they sent me with the activation code and I notice that beneath the code it says it is valid for 24 hours. Have you been trying to log in for longer than that? If so it's likely that your code will now have expired. Are there any options to request a new code? If not I would send them an email and ask them to sort this out for you. Here is the email to get support from LEGO Ideas support.ideas@lego.com Hope you manage to get it sorted. -

You can't change your pictures or text once the Idea has been submitted. You can add updates to the project profile but unfortunately the main page is locked down. If you really want to change the pictures, title etc then you can request to have your project removed from the site as long as it has less than 1000 votes. You could then re-submit it with the new title and pictures. I see you've got nearly 600 votes though in a fairly short time so it would seem a shame to have to start from scratch again. -

If that's true then I'm not very impressed at all. To be honest they have spent the last few months trying to refresh the site and make improvements but as far as I'm concerned there is only one problem with LEGO Ideas. At the moment the vote process goes something like this... Sign up and create a Lego ID. Click on email from Lego Ideas to activate account. Click back to Lego Ideas site and vote for the model. Answer a short list of questions about how much you think the set would cost, what age range would buy it etc. Click whether or not you want to follow the project. Pheww! That's a lot of steps they expect people to make. It's not so much of a problem for hardcore LEGO fans or people who are already signed up to the site. But persuading casual fans to sign up and go through this process is pretty difficult. I really hope they're not throwing another hurdle in the way and expecting people to enter an activation code as well when they sign up. Not sure how they could change this and I appreciate that they need people to sign in otherwise there would be nothing stopping people from voting for the same model multiple times. I wish they could make the process a bit quicker and easier for people though. -
This is fantastic. The tan and yellow go together really well. It looks fantastic on the outside but the interiors are also very nice indeed. I like how you've used the minifig whip pieces to create the arm rests on the sides of the bench. Would love to see a rendered image of this model and your previous Art Nouveau moc situated side by side.

So now there seems to be 6 Creator sets rumored for January 2019. I wonder if that's all of them or will there be anymore? Was really hoping we'd get a new Creator shop like the Corner Deli but I suppose that's wishful thinking.

[MOC - IDEAS] THE OLD WORKHORSE - TRACTION ENGINE
Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thank you very much. Traction Engines are lovely old machines and it's easy to see why people flock to steam rallies and get so enthusiastic about them. Just like steam trains, they are full of charm and character and I decided to build this as it's something I've always felt would work very well as a Lego model. Thanks a lot for offering to support the model on Ideas. The LEGO Ideas site has been closed for most of the day but it appears to be up and running again now.- 65 replies

I had that too. It was acting as if I was someone new signing in for the first time. Anyway I did what it said and entered the code and then it brought up a screen with a load of blurb about new terms and conditions etc. I really hope they aren't gonna make everyone do that when they try and sign in to Ideas. It's hard enough as it is trying to get people to sign up to vote, without this new obstacle being added. Anyway it looks as if they've made quite a few changes. Still looking around the site at the minute but first thing I noticed is they seem to have altered the way that the top projects appear by default on the homepage. The clockwork aquarium is now top of the list. I wonder how they work out which ones to prioritise? -

Bricked1980 replied to Bricked1980's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks very much. Pleased you like it. Yes I have used quite a few non-production colours in the model. Hopefully if this reached 10,000 votes and Lego took it on as a set then it would make quite a decent parts pack. I am currently working on a brick built version of the model. I've obviously had to change some of the colours for this version but I've spent quite a long time working out the best way of doing it and I've managed to create a recoloured version that I think still captures the look and feel of the original design pretty well. Just waiting on some Bricklink orders to arrive and then I can get building.- 65 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Here's another reason I think a police station is unlikely for next year If they did one, I can imagine the most likely scenario is that they'd design it as a stereotype American cop precinct. It would probably have a few jokey pop culture references thrown in like a dough nut street vendor or something like that. They could do a European police station but I reckon an American one would be much more likely. I also can't imagine a police station being made without it including a police car. So following DD this would mean them releasing 2 modulars in row that both include vehicles and both rely heavily on American culture. I suppose there's no reason that couldn't happen but I think it's more likely they'll approach a different, less American style for the next one. I do think a police station has lots of potential as a future modular but maybe not for 2019. -

That banner has appeared at the top of the LEGO Ideas site again saying they'll be offline for 12 hours on Wednesday 29th August. Obviously they have got the dates wrong but I assume it means it will go offline tomorrow. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
It seems as if it's now official that the new Winter Village set is going to be a Fire Station. Therefore I think it's less likely that we'll see a modular police station in January, maybe I'm wrong but I can't imagine them doing 2 creator expert sets in a row based on emergency services. -

Thomas the Tank Engine and The Lego Group
Bricked1980 replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Yes that's the one. On the the inside page of each book in the set is the usual smallprint telling when the book was first published etc. Here's a photo showing the page. This shows the Hit logo along with references to Britt Allcroft and seems to suggest to me that the rights are owned by Hit Entertainment. I might be wrong though and you would think that the authors would retain at least some of the rights to the characters they created. I would like to think that Christopher Awdry still has some control over the brand. It would be sad to think that a 70 year old kids classic is now 100% owned by a large corporate company who's only interest is using it for toy merchandising.- 75 replies

Thomas the Tank Engine and The Lego Group
Bricked1980 replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Unfortunately I believe that Mattel owns the rights to not only the Thomas and Friends TV series but also everything else connected including The Railway Series and all the publishing and distribution rights. My son was given a box set of all the Rev Awdry's books which had originally been released in 2015 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Thomas the Tank Engine. The books are preprints of the original Railway Series but there is one big difference. The Hit Entertainment logo and all the copyright ownership stuff is printed on the back cover of each book. So I assume when Mattel swallowed up Hit entertainment that they are now owners of The Railway Series as well as the TV show.- 75 replies
