Compact Locomotives with Large Technic Motor 88013
Vilhelm22 replied to ejayb's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This is actually quite a beneficial topic for me too. I'm planning on at some point building the DB E69 02, a beautiful little locomotive. I'm assuming you need at least an L motor to power one of these trains - an M won't be enough I'm guessing. -
Hahaha yeah same. I’ve still got to get quite a few sets this year before they’re discontinued, plus with the Bricklink Designer Program...

New LEGO Speed Champions 2022 Rumors, Speculation
Vilhelm22 replied to Bartlomiej's topic in LEGO Town
I'm hoping for more street cars - like the Supra and the F8 Tributo. I prefer them as it is, and they also have fewer stickers which is always a bonus.- 488 replies

All very good points. I have 23 inherited H0 scale trains, the oldest being die cast metal and the newest ones plastic. The metal ones are far superior, and sell for higher prices. I haven't bought anything for myself to add to this though, and haven't even tried landscaping - the prices are too high. That and the fact that only two British locomotives have ever been produced in H0 scale. Britain wanted to be different at the Empire's peak, in 1900 or so, with the result that they are about the only country where H0 isn't the most popular scale. Like you, I find LEGO is a far more pleasurable scale to work in, and is far more easily reparable. 6 of my H0 trains don't work - but 40-50 years on it's not easy to find parts... Without really wanting to let go of my H0 ones, I'm building them in LEGO. It's also the case that in LEGO you aren't restricted to the locomotives produced by the company - you can have whatever locomotive you want! An L-Gauge train has, at the top end, an even more pleasurable response as well. It's not 'Wow - I can't believe the amount of detail in such a tiny model' but instead 'Wow - I can't believe that's made out of LEGO!' - a response that shows your skill, not somebody else's. The satisfaction from that is far greater.

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
If I'm being honest, I'm almost 100% convinced it wouldn't. I think Arctic sold significantly less well the second time - new ideas were required and tried, and poorly executed in my opinion. The 2014 arctic sets were to me far better, and I think also sold because they brought a huge number of new orange pieces (I believe), plus it was City's first Earth-based exploration subtheme. I know somebody who bought every 2014 set and 0 2018 ones... -
Fx Bricks (Michael Gale) announces Fx Track system
Vilhelm22 replied to HoMa's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Fx Bricks also shared a post on their Instagram story of an 8 long straights review. The summer wave products definitely seem to be appearing now... @michaelgale When are the planned 9v Digital motors going to be ready (I realise this is a long way off!). I've not got any 9v trains, being too young at the time they were released, but realise it is the far superior method of controlling trains. I'm already at 51 AAA batteries with remotes - and they obviously run out - PF/PU is a flawed system. Also, when released will your 9v digital motors use a physical controller, or a computer program (like Hornby eLink, for example)? I would really like to invest in your amazing products, but without a motor available they don't really provide any use. I'll definitely invest when it is released. -
Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Police had a run of unusual themes. Forest, Swamp, Mountain, Air, plus there was the night-time themed one with the Museum Break-in, and the water based one with Prison Island. Air Police, however was from what I can tell a complete failure (understandably because the sets looked rubbish) and none have been made in the last two years, having previously been on a standard/unusual/unusual 3 year rotation. -
Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Indeed. Has there been a snow leopard recolour of the big cat mould before? It would also allow bears, and smaller, less exotic European forest type animals. I’d love more deer - the reindeer and the stag patronus aren’t really adequate... As @DBlegonerd7 said, animals are definitely a fundamental part of these subthemes. -

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Arctic made a comeback after 4 years (2014-2018), and Deep Sea after 4 as well (2015-2019). Volcano didn’t, but honestly I think it was the least good by some margin. Almost entirely vehicles - basically just two volcanoes in the big sets and otherwise nothing except vehicles. Jungle on the other hand I thought was brilliant. Stuff like the lookout tower, waterfall, abandoned temple, crashed airplane, and tiger cave. Far more in terms of landscaping and animals (a key feature of these exploration subthemes in my opinion) but maintaining the vehicles. It was certainly very popular with young people I know. 4 years would be this year, but obviously it’s not come. Is that a possibility for the future, even if not in 2022. -
Unfortunately, this is the sad truth. Motorbikes aren’t something I had thought about, but yes, looking back, I cannot think of many. At the moment just the Harley and the Ducati. And farm vehicles - oh yes I know very much. It’s a subtheme of city I completely missed in 2009, and there have only been a few sets since, spread out across Great Vehicles over the years. Part if the issue is, if I’m being quite honest, trains look less good than they used to in my opinion. The passenger trains of today don’t have anything like the appeal of, for example, a beautiful Gresley A4 Pacific, or its west coast opponent, the Stanier Coronation Class. Trains as a form of transportation has also declined - though a more recent surge in the past 20 years has improved them. Trains were for many years the main form of transportation - but this was long ago now, and the generation that remembers is now gradually shrinking in size, and with it the model railway hobby. It doesn’t help that they’re so overpriced these days - young people have less exposure to the beauty of miniature locomotives traversing their living rooms. The generic commuter trains simply haven’t the sleekness and appeal of those historic trains, and don’t encourage children to get in the hobby. Who wins - A Gresley A3, or a British Rail Class 455 or the like? Obviously the A3. Trains aren’t what they used to be themselves.

I’m sorry but I can’t help a huge amount, though I would love to one day do the same as you one day. I can say, however, that it will be faster if you add all the parts from every modular you don’t have to a Bricklink list - this can then tell you how many of each piece you need collectively rather than per set and having to do lots of maths. It is also the case that some older sets contain pieces that are incredibly rare and expensive and there might be other solutions. Some pieces have an almost identical modern counterpart, whilst others can be made out of multiple pieces more cheaply. Bevins Bricks on YouTube did quite a good video on how to get the Cafe Corner at a low price... It is also, I believe, particularly with smaller pieces which there are a lot of in modulars, when bought in large quantities, cheaper to buy them from a Pick A Brick wall in your local LEGO Store. I conveniently have the world’s largest only an hour’s train journey away, though I realise not everyone has quite that advantage. Finally, in some cases you may come to the conclusion it’s too expensive even when parted out. This shouldn’t discourage you though, as it’s often possible to easily build a set in a different colour. I think I saw the Green Grocer built in a different colour once due to the rarity of sand green. Anyway, good luck and I’d love to hear how you get on! Vilhelm22

I have to admit I agree here @Klaus-Dieter, they’re far superior. I have the train ones and they’re both brilliant. I could do with more non fantasy ones considering we’ve had 3 in recent years, plus the reissue of the toy shop. Fairground was a prediction based off of the two years, then one without, idea, but the two current ones are the two most expensive, and there are smaller 3-in-1 sets available. As I said in the fairground sets forum, mechanical issues could also have postponed this. Trains - it was hope but only sort of an expectation. I really did have my hopes up - but when they were produced before they only had them every 2 years so I guess it’s no surprise really. Winter Village, on the other hand, has been an annual constant for longer than either trains or fairground, so I think we can confidently expect one this year. Any cancellation of a Winter Village set would prove immensely unpopular with so many fans I don’t think they’d dare.

LEGO has tried some new stuff this year and last year - the result has been a neglect of some longer-running sub themes of Expert-level sets. 10288 is the only missing 102xx set, if all of the other rumours (Camp Nou, Titanic, Queer Eye, and the assumed Winter Village set) are true, unless they go above 10295 this year which is highly unlikely. Fairground sets include some technical functions which can be difficult to get right, and as the designers of these aren't generally technic designers, but System ones, they have less experience. It's possible that a failing technic function has meant that this set has been delayed by a year. The first three were relatively simple, but the most recent two have more complex functions as they aren'ta single constant circular motion - if the next is similar then that would be a reasonable reason for delay. A possible set on which I can imagine this happening is a swinging ship type ride - considering there was that swinging ship GWP in June I think that's a valid guess.

Trains should get considerably more focus. I at the moment have a slight issue regarding space - the result has been that I have the crocodile displayed right in front of the Taj Mahal, Sydney Opera House, and Tower Bridge (I know it doesn't really fit in scale-wise!). However, on the few occasions people have been allowed inside my house in the past year with COVID (and the UK's general handling of it), the responses to the crocodile in particular have been positive. I'm really hoping to get my hands on the Bricklink Designer Program Studgate model - it's beautiful and I was an early Ideas supporter of it. I also don't expect any of the train projects to be selected unfortunately - the polar Express is probably the best bet of those. I'd like to see a steam train in the 2022 City sets, or just any City set. The last ones that weren't part of fantasy themes (Hogwarts Express, Ghost Train, etc.) were the EN and the two Christmas trains - the most recent of which was 5 years ago, the least recent 15 years ago. Before that were the My Own Train ones, and before that the 1998 9v 'Classic Train'. really, I consider this to be the last standard city type steam train. We need another. At an expert level, I'm still hoping for a US steam locomotive. The MOCs I've seen of some US steam locomotives truly blow me away - my favourites being @Cale's Blue Comet and this beautiful Southern locomotive, the latter being possibly my favourite ever, partly because I own an H0 scale version of the same locomotive. I'd love an FEF-3, preferably in the greyhound livery, but as it would require #13 wheels to represent the enormous 80 inch drivers at 8 wide 1:48 scale, which LEGO doesn't even come close to producing (are L wheels #7 or #9?), I don't have my hopes up. Then again, maybe not that one exactly as I'm hoping to build one myself......I have a long term aim to build all 23 of my H0 scale trains in Lego (some of them I've never seen done), but as I've so far done precisely 0 of those it'll be a long time coming. I think it's also possible that we may one day see an expert level Hogwarts Express. It seems like an obvious one to do at some point, and the current Hogwarts Express is one of only two 2018 HP sets not either retired or retiring at the end of this year, the other being the nanofigure Hogwarts Castle. The Great Hall and Whomping Willow are both being discontinued this December. I've basically lost hope for this year, but there's a lot they could do next year.

10279 is off the list. The T2 Campervan has just been announced. 10284 - ¿Camp Nou? 10288 - ¿!? 10291 - ¿Queer Eye? 10293 - ¿Winter Village? 10294 - ¿Titanic? Are left. Info from Jedi JAC Penguin I’m admittedly probably the last person here who possibly has hope of another expert train this year - 10288 is clearly the only option. I still have hopes though now very very slim...

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Thank you for your very in-depth analysis @Aanchir! My issue is really that I have only been collecting modulars a few years now, and nearly all of mine are 'multi facade' - AS and DO being the prime examples. Then my issue with CG is that the functions are all so completely different. In terms of how united the different functions are, PC is by far the best of mine for that. True - I'd completely forgotten about the Ninjago ones, having no interest in them... I agree that corners being less frequent would be seriously unpopular with many. Agreed - they're appearing now and I reckon will continue to do so. I'd be interested to know what other themes people would like to see modulars in. On the Ideas front, I honestly don't expect any in the future really - but it should be noted that there are 5 rejected projects in the pipeline for the Bricklink Designer Program: Train Station: Studgate, Retro Bowling Alley, Modular Lego Store, Venetian Houses, and Modular Construction Site. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Quite honestly, I really don't want that. Brutalist makes me think of the Barbican in London, which I detest as a Londoner myself for a number of reasons (admittedly many of these, such as the dangers of being mugged and house prices, are not issues that would occur in LEGO!). Either way, I think it's a generally quite plain and boring style, and frequently uses dull colours, so I think wouldn't fit in particularly well. I'd like some more single purpose buildings - though they have generally had one more dominant purpose, the last building to only have one purpose was 10232 Palace Cinema in 2013. We had a series of single purpose ones - 2009, 2010, and 2012 also were. I'd like a repeat of that. On a wider note, I'd like 2022 to have a continuation of Chinese modulars - 80107 Spring Lantern Festival is a beauty of a set, and was one of the few this year that I went out of my way to buy (I normally buy sets in the order they are released even if a couple of years behind - consequently 80107 is the only non GWP set that I have released this year). I can't remember where but I think I have somewhere seen a MOC made mainly using pieces from other Chinese New Year sets to make a Chinese restaurant next to the Spring Lantern Festival. Sets of this kind would be brilliant, and would also help 80107 to blend better with the other modulars - mine is currently located between the Parisian Restaurant and the empty space where I should have the Downtown Diner but missed because it was retired before AS (this still really annoys me - second time I've been caught out by this issue, but hopefully the last). This position is the only good one I can find as those two both have an 'absent' wall on one side - conveniently on different sides. The only thing we can really say about the next modular is it will almost certainly be a corner. 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019 all were. The only reason I can think of it not being one is 80107 is a corner - so TLG might choose not to repeat that. However, as these sets have 2-3 years planning I doubt they'd diverge from that - plus we're currently in the quite unusual position of having only one corner readily available, that being CG. -

The school is definitely the main interest there for me, praying it won’t be 4+. Be interested about the mobile crane - the best one was around 2005/6 which was HUGE. Interesting that the hospital is so soon - those have previously been on 6 year circulation so wouldn’t have expected one until 2024, though I’m not complaining. Not on this list, we can assume both a passenger and cargo train in the summer as we got them 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018. On that front, 2010 and 2014 had a station too, and in 2018 no 60199 was ever released - though no rumours actually arose, I believe this to have been a cancelled train station. I hope for those next year, and some more PU availability. -
Level Crossing - modern road plate version
Vilhelm22 replied to Feuer Zug's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Interesting - never seen those before. Where I am we generally just have bridges or tunnels. The options for actually crossing the track at the track itself are very rare, and aren’t that safe where they are. You’re expected just to use common sense - but this means that they’re unfortunately easy places for suicidal people. I’d be in favour of installation of these in parts of the U.K. where it’s not that safe. -
Somehow I had missed this... I think I immediately supported because I want more trains and maybe didn’t read through properly! But yes, that’s an added bonus. Is the U.K. included in that? Because though they were widespread and well known across continental Europe, they’re less well known in the U.K. but I think 10277 still sold very well.
-
Hahahaha I pray we don’t get a ‘Clothing Collection’... I still wonder that could include though - is there an iconic hat that’s not just black or red and white or something?
-
There was a VW Campervan in 4207 Town Garage from 2012, but otherwise I can’t think of anything. Definitely not since the transition to 6 wide cars.
-
Yeah me too. I still really hope the Titanic is real though, and though the very high price seems like an unlikely point that may weaken this ‘leak’, I would still expect LEGO to go BIG on this one to blow their competitor’s product out of the water (pun intended)

If you look up ‘1950s pickup truck’ on google images, basically the first result is a very similar Chevrolet - so dunno why a deal would fall through as they have it for SC... Anyway, I like it. Was quite surprised about the Delorean rumour because I expected another film car in 2022 after the DB5 in 2018 and the Ecto-1 in 2020. I hope we get one eventually... It’s also a good explanation why the IDEAS project was rejected.
