  1. Do BDP set instructions go public like the normal set instructions are available on the LEGO website, or do you only have access if you build the set? I’m not fussed about actually buying this set, but I’m planning on building a Great Northern Railway EMD F7 A-B-B-A set and haven’t decided whether I like this or Tony Sava’s design (you can buy the instructions online) more.
  2. The BDP set looks brilliant, but honestly it’s so similar to Tony Sava’s EMD F7 design available on Brick Train Depot that I’m not fussed with getting it and would rather do one in a livery I chose (I’m thinking GNR…). I do think it’s got some nice techniques though and I may modify the F7 with some of those (particularly thinking of the corner curved slopes on the bonnet).
  3. List on the top post now updated. Any more rumours on anything known? We are of course now without a Hogwarts Express...
  4. Very impressed with this set and the loco a first of its kind since CITY launched in 2004/5! I like that they’ve kept with the old 6x10 container design, used for the builders’ portacabin in 7905 Tower Crane and then freight containers since 7994 LEGO CITY Harbour in 2007. Those us with a big collection dating back 20+ years…the same containers still fit anywhere. With the new sets not containing a full loop I’m starting to think they should do a set that’s just a full track loop as right now it’s an expensive route for a circle through official sets. This year’s CITY train sets now cover 60506, 60508, 60509 and 60511. 60510 has been taken by the advent calendar, but I can’t help but wonder what 60507 might be. Seems like there’s absolutely no news on that set of any kind at all. Also hadn’t thought about this but given that we’re getting a new tram (albeit very different from the last), and 60423 Downtown Streetcar and Station now being 2 years old is it likely this will retire at the end of the year?
  5. Might be, or I think you can fit a train motor in there actually. Circuit cubes are great but my goodness they're loud! Any idea based on previous set releases when we're likely to find out prices in other currencies?
  6. Pretty sure Joe (Breckland Bricks) does them in those sizes, and if not he's got an amazing custom design service that I use fairly often for any rods and wheels you may be able to think of not immediately available. I know with new EU laws he's unable to sell to that market anymore though.
  7. I like 60511, but as usual, the PU upgrade is stupidly expensive for a US$90 set (don't know the £ price yet). Absolutely LOVE 60506 though - might be the first city set I've bought in a while... I've updated the set list as necessary. Still waiting to hear anything on 60509 "Port Freight Train with Crane and Truck", though.
  8. (Catching up after a few weeks) This looks terrific! Been looking at doing my own GG1 for a while now and this might inspire me to bump it up the (~70-odd locomotives) list. Don’t suppose you know what its parts availability is in dark green?
  9. Terrific job here @TeddytheSpoon! Instantly recognisable prototype and you've nailed it. Brilliant to see it in another scale as well - I've seen plenty of 7/8 wide Ivatt 2-6-2Ts but never in this scale, so it's great to see something new.
  10. Definitely curious about some of these! I’m looking forward to seeing the new tram particularly - I’ve liked some of their city trams but I thought the last one was a little disappointing. I’ve updated the list on the first page. The latest copy of Blocks magazine included an interview with the current head of City, who took over back in 2023/2024 with a 3 year plan: 2024: Get the City theme back on track. I’d say this has definitely been successfully accomplished. 2025: Focus on and improve key City themes: Police, Fire and Construction. There’s definitely been a good return of construction sets in the past year or two, and this might explain the police train. 2026: New sets, new parts. Perhaps this is where trains is headed? The end of the passenger/freight series, more variation in trains, and maybe new train-related pieces appearing in 60511? I think whatever happens, the 2024 goal of getting City back on track has been hugely successful in my opinion, and with some new train sets of a kind we’ve not seen in City since its creation in 2004 and seemingly more to come, I’m excited to see where it goes.
  11. Very nice “Brighton Baltic” @Darkkostas25! Actually been looking into doing an LB&SCR L1 so it’s good to see others’ models - and the OE livery looks smart as well. Also really like the name - it fits well alongside Sapphire Star perfectly.
  12. To be fair for a lot of people that’s the aim. When I’m exhibiting at model railway shows with my club (LUKR) one of the most common remarks (in a tone of amazement) is “I didn’t even realise it was LEGO!” to which our answer is always “Thanks!”. Can see that isn’t everyone’s though.
  13. With the retirement of the latest Hogwarts Express set, leaving only the small one in the book nook, based on previous years I'm also expecting another Hogwarts Express to be released in 2026 (the 2018 set retired in December 2022, and the next one (just retired) launched in June 2023).
  14. LEGO Trains 2026 thread with an up-to-date set list is up now!
  15. Well, it's that time of year again and with the new 60508 Police Train Heist just leaked, I suppose it's time to start this thread. Here's the usual list of recent years' sets - 2019-2021 have been removed as all sets from these years have now been retired. Standard Train Sets 2026 60506 Beachside Tram 60508 Police Train Heist 60509 Harbour Freight Train 60511 Retro Steam Train 2025 10361 Holiday Express Train 60470 Explorers' Arctic Polar Express Train 60469 Central Train Station 2024 60423 Downtown Streetcar & Station 2023 21344 Orient Express 76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station 2022 60335 Train Station 60336 Freight Train 60337 Express Passenger Train 76405 Hogwarts Express Collector's Edition 10308 Holiday Main Street (trolley/tram) 2018 75955 Hogwarts Express 60197 Passenger Train 60198 Cargo Train 60205 Tracks 60238 Switch Tracks Sets in bold are those confirmed for 2026 Sets with a strikethrough have been retired Sets in italics are ones expected to be retired in 2026. Let me know if I've missed any! Bricklink Designer Program Train Sets At least one train set is confirmed in the Bricklink Designer Program, but that has its own thread elsewhere in the Train Tech. Discuss below, and as usual @JopieK maybe pin the thread?
  16. Afternoon all, With the closure of Big Ben Bricks, all the problems with HA Bricks last year, and the new EU laws causing Breckland Bricks to pull out of the EU market, this has obviously left a hole in the custom wheels and rods market for European customers who don't want to import things from the US (thankfully I'm in the UK so I've still got Breckland Bricks). However, something on TrixBrix's latest instagram post caught my eye. The TrixBrix post states "We Solved Ballast. What's Next?" Below are countless suggestions and requests from various people around the world for things TrixBrix could do. As you can imagine, there's quite a long list of demands, including monorail motors, an R104 4 stud gap system, R88 points, and many more ideas/requests. But the one that stood out for me was the person who said "Big Ben wheels closed shop, maybe something for you to pick up. Wheels custom, maybe even sell full on bogie sets with less friction. Connecting rod for steam lovers." And TrixBrix's response: "- Soon " Somebody else followed up with "Please say this is true!!" And TrixBrix responded: "- That's true." So I don't know exactly when they'll be starting, but TrixBrix is making custom wheels now. Hopefully this will help a lot of people on this forum going forward who relied on Big Ben Bricks and others - losing 3 custom wheel sellers in the space of just over a year for different reasons was not an ideal way to go.
  17. A fine choice of loco and livery there @Andy Glascott! Choppers are fine locomotives (I may or may not have one vaguely in the works in a folder somewhere) and good choice of triple grey as a less commonly built livery (can't think what else I've seen beyond a gronk). Don't suppose you're planning on building a second since they usually run together?
  18. In the UK, the hub, medium linear motor, remote, and train motor are all saying "Sold Out", as is the PU-powered Loop Coaster. The two trains currently available (at least in Europe still) are 60337 and 60198, both forecast by usual logic to be discontinued at the end of this year. Colour/distance sensor and large angular motor have completely disappeared from the PU page on LEGO.com. Taking into account success and timescale, I'd expect the Grand Piano, lighthouse, and Liebherr Crawler Crane all to be discontinued at the end of this year. This leaves only the Technic hub, Technic battery box, and large motor, and the Technic Audi RSQ e-Tron which uses only these components. Seems to me as though by the end of this year, Powered Up is dead. I never got round to motorising my copy of 10277 - hopefully it'll fit a PF motor, RC chip and 2S LiPo.
  19. I don’t personally use SBrick, but in my train club (LUKR) a fair few people do use them, and from what I’ve heard this is what’s happened: As a small company, SBrick runs its manufacturing out of a larger factory or factories, sourcing parts externally, and the apparent “shut down” stems from part of the manufacturing process closing down, and consequently halting SBrick’s production. SBrick as a business I believe is very much still around and alive, but are currently in the process of finding a new manufacturer, which they are well on the way to doing. To my knowledge, SBrick has not been abandoned, but has run into some serious manufacturing issues outside their control, which they are striving to fix now before returning to business. As @XG BC says, BuWizz and Fx Bricks’ PFx Brick are alternatives, though I’ve heard the PFx Brick software is rather out of date since FxBricks turned its attention to their tracks. BuWizz I have no knowledge of, except that it’s expensive but gets positive reviews. I’ve myself gone to full radio control, which has a huge range (~90 metres) and has no problems of interruptions from phone signals and other bluetooth devices at shows with 1000s of people (I’ve got a show in a couple of weeks expecting several thousand people on both days). However, this does require soldering and an expensive “initial investment”, so I can see it’s not for everyone.
  20. I’ve taken quite a different approach to most people in the LEGO trains community. Other than the motors, I’ve ditched LEGO’s systems completely. For control, I use a more traditional RC system first piloted by @garethjellis in the United States with Texas Brick Railroad, explained here: https://brickmodelrailroader.com/index.php/2019/03/07/deltang-an-alternative-to-standard-lego-control-systems/ And for batteries, I’ve gone with LiPos - far more powerful for their size and fast charging, and can run constantly at a show for extended periods of time. A good guide is here, by Monty Smith (also in the US): http://montystrains.net/workshop-blog/2020/6/1/using-lipo-batteries However in the UK in LUKR I know quite a few people who use LiPos as well and they’re very efficient - an excellent investment in my opinion. Both the RC system and LiPos require a larger spend at the beginning to get the remote, charger etc but well worth the money as the performance stats are exemplary. It also requires a bit of soldering in the process. However, I can now run trains at high speeds for long periods of time, and I have a range of 90 metres, plus there’s no interference to the signal - try using bluetooth at a huge convention with thousands of people in the room all with phones with bluetooth. The club layout is big as well - we need the range! At the other end I use PF motors with a spliced PF adapter cable with a JST socket. I can see the advantages of PU, but this has been amazing for me, and what’s more I can run it on the club layout which isn’t 9V, and uses a lot of Trixbrix R104 geometry. This probably isn’t for everyone, but it’s mine :) -William
  21. Interesting….historically the new sets have entered production in summer, so that would give a six month gap with no City trains unless they release the predicted 2026 lot in January 2026 Not sure about the rest of 9V, 12V, and 4.5V (before my time), but since 2000 it’s certainly the longest, by a margin of just over 3 years.
  22. Ha! Just came to make this thread but I see @JopieK’s done it already! No problem about the list - I like formalities like that. Not sure about this Arctic train, though I guess we’ll have to see. I’ve seen a few MOCs of Arctic trains to go with previous Arctic city subthemes. If it’s under the Arctic subtheme as it appears, I’d expect it to be of similar livery and design
  23. Excellent work as usual sir! I’ve watched this thread and your other channels on and off for a few years now, and this must surely be quite a large fleet of Hungarian stock at this point! And brilliant to see the new terminus creation - I’ve seen very few LEGO train termini quite like this on this scale! Interesting to see the new GySEV stock and something I was unaware of - admittedly with quite limited knowledge but I’m not sure how common these type coaches are. In Britain we call them Driving Van Trailers (DVTs), and the London terminus I commute into still uses these locomotive hauled trains with DVTs for its intercity services, although I think all other UK passenger services except the sleeper trains are now multiple units. A great job you’ve done on this one, and remarkable that you’ve obtained such rare pieces! Best, William P.S. my memory may deceive me but from my visit last year I seem to remember Budapest’s modern trams carry a green & yellow livery - is this GySEV, or just coincidence? It seems odd for city public transport to be run by a completely external company.
  24. Mould King produces near-identical copies of many PF components, including those used in the Emerald Night. I don’t know the best source for buying them in Greece, though there’s probably an EU stockist. They should be fairly easily obtainable and are of decent quality - I’ve used a few to replace old broken PF components and some in custom stuff. Avoid the MK remotes though - if you have a PF remote that’s excellent; if you don’t, buy one second hand.
  25. Interesting to hear. I just checked out LEGO Shop@home myself and both 60335 and 60336 say retiring soon, so we can be confident on those. I seem to remember people in the US and Canada saying they did not, but we still have 60198 with no signs of imminent retirement despite 60336’s apparent imminence. CITY-wise, I will say these things though: 1) The passenger train’s retirement would fit with relative consistency as we’re due another round in 2026 2) “Additional” sets have sometimes retired early in the past - take for example 7936 Level Crossing which retired 2 years early 3) Speaking from the perspective of someone in the UK for this one. On both the 2010 lot and the 2014 lot, a new freight train came out a year later - in other words, there was a year when there was only one freight train. With 60198 still available, is that happening now? The OE is an anomaly and I’m both surprised and not surprised that it’s staying on until Dec 2025 unless rumours are false.
