[WIP] Lego monorails. [Custom Rail Systems (CRS)]
Vilhelm22 replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think that this is something worth noting - would be good if we could get a project through to 10k to show support for the monorail (though this one is suspended). https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f013b46e-db4d-48f6-bf9f-e8e52ffbd747 852 supporters in a period of 11 days is impressive. EDIT: It's now 1821 supporters -
Hadn't noticed that - Yes, I think that's definitely what we can expect. Two questions though: Is the high-speed train going to be a 60197 or 60051 type - one or two engines? And - what trackside feature and vehicle will we get with the cargo train? 2018 was a control tower and bank truck, 2015 a tower crane with a grab and backhoe which could be transported, 2014 a small truck and a larger overhead crane, 2011 a coal tipper and a road/rail vehicle (also transportable), and 2010 a more simple overhead crane and a container truck. I'd be interested to see what they come up with this time - every CITY freight train ever has had some form of crane, excluding 2011 unless you count that very basic thing at the back.

Ah that makes more sense. VIP trains, when good, can be amazing - possibly the most impressive coach I've ever seen is Queen Victoria's official royal coach. However, I realise that there have been a lot of real-life VIP coaches - any would do. I like your idea for the train transporter - I actually once made one myself, using the 'Heavy Loader' set 7900. Just replace the four 8x16 panels for straight tracks. I've quite frequently heard of them being used to transport static steam locomotives. I also like the idea for a charter train, now knowing what it is - how about something like the American Freedom Train for the Bicentennial celebrations in 1976? Southern Pacific GS-4 4449 was painted specially for it in red, white, and blue - I could imagine something like that. All good ideas and I can imagine them making a level crossing as they'll want to make the most of those new road plates.

I'm just going to break this down and give my opinion on each one. Diesel Shunter: I'd like a diesel shunter, and of these is probably one of the most likely - a cargo train that rather than a big locomotive as a much smaller one, and the kit has more than 2 switches maybe? Train Transporter: Interesting idea. Do you mean a train that can transport a train, or a lorry that can? I just see two things that LEGO might not like - the transporter would have to be eight wide which they don't like, and a train would contain two locomotives. It would also need a very strong crane to be able to move it. Train Station: We didn't get one in 2018, but hopefully we'll get one this year, having got many in previous years, dating back to c.1970. Train Workshop, Engine Shed: I'm gonna combine these two, as LEGO probably would. We've only ever got one of them, the World City one in 2003, but I think many would be in favour. Passenger Train: I can basically guarantee we'll get one this year. VIP Train: Do you mean one for the VIP program, or one to carry a VIP? VIP program: honestly not much they could do and probably wouldn't be brilliant. To carry a VIP: Love the idea. I've seen the Royal Trains at NRM York, and there are some absolute beauties there. I'd love one like Queen Victoria's coach. It would most likely only be an additional coach though, hooked on the end - I think many VIP trains are like this these days. Freight Train: Same as Passenger Train. Charter Train: Honestly idk what you mean by this - could somebody explain for me? Level Crossing: YES. We've only had rubbish mini ones since 2010. Unfortunately I think one is relatively unlikely... D2C Major Railway Station: I'd love one of these, as I'm sure most here would. However, the one in the brickLink Designer Program makes it unlikely in the near future at least. There's a nice one on IDEAS though. Steam Trains: Yes. Anything steam is always a bonus, since they are so rare - hopefully LEGO will finally give us another one soon. An EN type without any issues would be nice. I love all of your ideas, and I promise you I'm not trying to be rude at all. I'm just trying to think of what LEGO's thought process would be. On a different note, as I see you have only 19 posts at the time of writing this, a warm welcome to Eurobricks!

A small Creator Vespa, of the non 3-in-1 type similar to the New York Taxi, London Bus, High-Speed Train and Tuk-Tuk, has been spotted and posted on Brickset. Maybe this is a miniature version of the set to come? Either a Creator type set or maybe a GWP?

To keep with the whole model railway idea, I can practically guarantee a motor will be easily available for the points.. -
Very nice! I particularly like the design of the cactus! How many parts is it total?

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Should zoo happen, it would be probably a big set with maybe three enclosures and a zoo entrance, and then smaller sets each with one enclosure, or a feature such as an aquarium or reptile house. I'd love to see it but the chances are insanely slim. -
I totally agree. Having collected a lot when younger, and given a lot to my younger brother several years later, the box art is still very clear in my head. This is very similar to it. I also can't find any evidence to back up the idea that this might foreshadow something. Creator 3-in-1 trains have been released in 2008, 14, and 17, all steam, and bearing no relation to any expert sets either.
-
I'd like to see some more of the older sets re-done in a larger style similar to the Empire State and Statue of Liberty - both excellent sets. Looking back to the early years, Seattle Space Needle, Brandenburg Gate, Leaning Tower of Pisa maybe? Good to see someone who knows the correct name. Knowing a lot of them, most Brits don't. However, I doubt we'll see one particularly soon unfortunately due to the Creator Expert ones. The same applies for the Sydney Opera House. However, the Taj Mahal was in that respect totally unexpected, so who knows. I know it's not going to get done because of the controversy surrounding his...um...actions to say it politely, but I've always rather liked the architectural design of the Chicago Trump Tower.

Botanical Collection - Rumours and Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to Vilhelm22's topic in Special LEGO Themes
New set reveal!!!!! Not officially part of the Botanical Collection, but in the same line as the tulips and roses from this year, in 2022 we are going to see a set of two sunflowers number 40524. This was completely unexpected, and I really like them! Good parts usage and more detailed than the other two smaller sets. Still nothing further about the orchid however. It's a very unclear name, as orchids vary hugely in colour, size, and shape, with large and small, wild and cultivated ones of different types around the world.- 137 replies

Light My Bricks’ lights are so small that they fit inside a stud, so almost no pieces are replaced. Those which are, however, use official pieces to hold the cables in place etc.

Fx Bricks (Michael Gale) announces Fx Track system
Vilhelm22 replied to HoMa's topic in LEGO Train Tech
@michaelgale Everything in the video looks truly amazing! I have some H0 model trains, and those P40 switches are definitely of a proper model railway standard! Also good to see power connections in the works as well - they definitely weren’t something I had previously thought about. I can’t wait to see it all come together in the next year or so - is that realistic for the controller, power connectors, and motor? -
Though I realise this last layout is a very long way off, I'd add an extra connection between the extra outer loops and the yard loop. Either way, this is truly amazing! as you say you have basically nothing right now, you could go either way - 9v with new Fx Track or plastic? Having used model railways elsewhere I know DCC, which is Michael's long term aim, is an amazing system far superior to batteries, and with a layout this size I'm guessing you'd need about 100 batteries.

From what I've seen, Winter Village sets have all had the same lifespan of three Christmases except for the Winter Holiday Train and Winter Village Station. Either the the station was around a shorter time, or the train a longer than usual time, but either way they both were discontinued at the same time despite the station coming out the year after the train. I agree. Winter Village has a unique scale, as it's not CITY, but it's also not a modular, so it doesn't fit with the standard stuff. Consequently many sets do not fit in the scale, and you only occasionally get a few that do from other themes. I was also thinking - we haven't had a set with a larger vehicle for a while. Vehicles have been: 2010 (Bakery): Horse and Cart 2011 (Post Office): Post Van 2012 (Cottage): Snowplough 2014 (Santa's Workshop): Sleigh 2016 (Winter Holiday Train): Train (though this was the whole set) 2017 (Train Station): Station Coach/Bus 2018 (Fire Station): Fire Engine None of the last three have had them, which is the largest gap ever. We ought to get one next year I think as a result. There was continual demand among fans for a modular police station and eventually there was one. Could a similar thing happen with the Winter Village?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
One thing I'm expecting in the new modular is some interesting new technique for the facade. One designer, though I can't remember who, in a previous modular building designer video said hat designers try to see who can do the most obscure and unusual facade design. The variations over the years have certainly been huge. My personal favourite was the NEXO KNIGHTS fists used in the left hand side of the Detective's Office (the bit that actually is a detective's office). -
Looking good! Out of interest what % of the track have you actually got right now for each layout? Also - on such a large layout as the final one, would it not be an advantage at that scale to have two individual loops? This is my sort of dream layout which I'll never have the space for. I wish you the best of luck, and I'm looking forward to seeing photos as it grows!

JediJacPenguin says 10298 Vespa will have 1106 pieces. Judging by the USD and EUR prices of 99.99, I'm expecting GBP 89.99.

The 2022 topic is now here, and is pinned in the Train Tech forum
-
Good point. The success of the Crocodile and that poll, among others, could give them further evidence of AFOL demand and therefore increase likelihood of a set. On a different note, JediJacPenguin is a very reliable source of leaks - though not a leaker himself AFAIK, he records all of them. His list of 2022 Creator Expert sets, though mostly blank, has numbers 10296 to 10311 (16 sets). I'm wondering if one of those could be a train...

@JopieK You’re right - I’m modifying the thread now as it isn’t. The 2021 thread was created almost precisely a year ago, and is now mainly 2022 discussion so I thought now would be the time.

As @legotownlinz listed last year, recent trains have been: 2022 60335 Train Station 60336 Freight Train 60337 High Speed Passenger Train 76405 Hogwarts Express Collector’s Edition 10308 Holiday Main Street (trolley/tram) 2021 N/A 2020 10277 Crocodile Locomotive 40370 Trains 40th Anniversary Set (GWP) 60271 Main Square (tram) 2019 70424 Ghost Train Express 71044 Disney Train 2018 75955 Hogwarts Express 60197 Passenger Train 60198 Cargo Train 2017 10259 Winter Village Station 2016 10254 Winter Holiday Train Sets with a strikethrough are retired. Itallicised sets are ones with expected imminent retirement. Bold sets are new for 2022. Following this pattern, a CITY cargo and passenger train are very likely to be released in 2022 - this two trains every four years pattern dates back to 2006. According to Brickset, 60271 will be retired at the end of 2021. The crocodile has just been retired, as has the Disney Train, meaning that once the City trains are discontinued, the Hogwarts Express will be the only one left. It’s also worth noting that the Hogwarts Express is the only Harry Potter set left from the first wave when it returned back in 2018. 2021 was the first year there hasn’t been a train set at minifigure scale, so hopefully we’ll get another other next year.
-
It’s now pretty clear we’re not going to get a 2021 train, and 2022 will be an active year, so I’m going to create a 2022 thread if that’s okay? Mods can delete if unsuitable.
