What next vintage set could be recreated by TLG ?
Murdoch17 replied to Khargeust's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree on the Infomaniac and his HQ, maybe with updated Pepper Roni, The Brickster and a Brickster bot or two. (using Minecraft heads maybe?) However, the Brickolini's pizzeria has been around twice already: original 1994 set 6350 and nearly identical LEGO Legends version 10036 from 2002. (both called 'Pizza to Go') ...That being said, I want an updated Pizza to Go as well! -
Model finished today, 7/10/23! first post updated with new text and pictures.

I don't think a robot parking garage is going to happen, as it's too modern. Remember: the modular series has a timeline at some point in the '20's thru late 50's. It doesn't go beyond the early 60's... ever. (except for that computer in town hall, that was a fluke) We also got a parking garage in CITY in 2012 (set 4207) which could only work with four-wide vehicles, and it was massive (16x48 I think?)

Thomas the Tank Engine - MOCs of locomotives and rolling stock
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Update on progress for James and Diesel 10: James' tender is mostly done, but the actual locomotive portion needs a lot of work. Only 34 parts to go until he is finished, while Diesel 10 has 56 left to go. I can get both locomotives ordered at one time for $30 (before S&H), but that will have to wait a few more weeks. -
Hunslet Courage + Stop Motion LEGO Lawrie Goes Loco
Murdoch17 replied to Liam Biggs's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Nice work on the diesel, and the film is awesome too! -
Thank you @JopieK! Thanks @Man with a hat. Those doors were a later addition, probably around 2017 or so. They currently use click hinges, so they are a bit finnicky and break often. I'm going to use regular clips on the new doors, which should reduce the strain when moving them. Thanks! However, if you do build you own, I would highly suggest making your version shorter, @Toxic43. Whatever your engines longest dimension is, add a few studs and their is your length. My version needs a wooden crate with metal handles to be carried properly for long distances, and when turned sideways will not fit though doors. (with or without the crate!)

Which Pirates sets have (or may have) problem with brittle brown bricks?
Murdoch17 replied to zinnn's topic in LEGO Pirates
Supreme Leader Snoke (from Star Wars EP 8's Star Destroyer, I think) -
This model was originally built by my father around 2005 / 2006 for an old 9v-style MOC steam engine we built together based off set 7722. It was three tracks long and one track wide at first, but I reworked it to be five tracks long and two tracks wide in late 2015. Both of these earlier models were almost totally black with a little splash of red. Fast forward to 2023: I have remodeled the MOC almost entirely. I've changed most of the black to tan, blocking up the lowest row of windows, and changing the red doors to light gray. The roof remains untouched except for twelve parts above the doors / back wall. The building is a little under 5 tracks long, or about 75 studs in length. The maximum side clearance is good enough for a 10 stud wide model (no overhang at that width) while the trains can be no more than 11 bricks tall. Here we see the rear of the MOC. The roof comes off and the inside has a new raised platform to allow for maintenance to the engines. (before it was just totally empty) This model can hold most of my steam engine designs (not all at once of course!), although it is probably too short in length for some of my diesel units. The dismantled 2015 version is in the spoiler tag. EDIT 10/4/23: Real pictures added, entire post restructured. Thoughts?

Disney Properties 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Murdoch17 replied to Huigberts Builds's topic in LEGO Licensed
There are actually two cameras in the Walt Disney set. The big one, and the multi-plane one behind Walt, used for getting zoom-in / out shots on animated films. Ub Iwerks invented that device, I believe, and it's nice to see it represented. -
Disney Properties 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Murdoch17 replied to Huigberts Builds's topic in LEGO Licensed
There is no way Disney will touch that film again, ever. There are VERY good reasons I'm not going into for why it's not available to buy / stream / view. Lego wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole either... It's too toxic. On that same token, I wish The Great Locomotive Chase (film or actual historical event) was more widely known, with as much of a history / train fan as Walt Disney was, so we could get some sets from it. (We could use some more Civil War / Wild West-era trains in Lego!) ....or at least another park steamer, maybe from Disney World? -
I changed the roof color midway though the project from dark bluish gray to black. The reason for this was I have much more of the parts in black, making it cheaper to order the remainder. As you can see, I actually was able to finish the roof except for a less than a dozen parts. The project is now down to 107 parts worth about $12. (before S&H) The rest of the house's construction has also progressed a bit, but I'm not sharing that quite yet! Thoughts?

What is the best Lego train control system?
Murdoch17 replied to BatteryPoweredBricks's topic in LEGO Train Tech
For me: good ol' hand power! Least expensive one out there! -
I read it in "The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks", a official LEGO book which you can't really get anymore. They opened up the preorder in 2019 for less than six months (I think?), and however many people ordered them was how many they made... That's all. I just got mine this year.

The latter half of that statement would make the clone brick makers jobs even easier to steal Lego's ideas. Releasing the story bible / art assests for shows also has never happened for any Lego theme, ever. They reuse ideas that don't get told, so why would / should they tip their hand potentially years / decades* in advance? Not going to happen. *I say decades because the Vikings theme was originally supposed to happen in the mid-80's. It didn't get released until 2006 for a great many reasons. LEGO never lets anything die, they hold onto EVERYTHING.

The Love for Printed Pieces Thread/Sticker Resentment Thread

Jack Stone / 4 Juniors had barely any stickers (just two sheets, with eight stickers total overall according to Bricklink!) across the entire four-year theme. But people don't like talking about ol' Jack...- 183 replies

There is no way a 6, or even 8 wide official set would have wheels that big. It would look silly and massively out of scale, especially with other trains by LEGO. Plus, unless it's a single driver loco (which it's not), it would bind on official Lego curves and switches. The biggest we could get is one size bigger than what we have. That's it without serious track upgrades.

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Murdoch17 replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
@Kit Figsto, technically, we got two LEGO video games. the Original Adventures and the Adventure Continues. As for possible sets for the future that are begging to exist: Temple of Doom: Shanghai Chase from 2009 was DYING to be remade. You can't tell me that two '30's-vintage cars wouldn't sell, or even have a Ford Tri-motor as an additional set. Plus, it avoids the Thugee issue entirely. Also, a KotCS "Doom Town" set with a small retro-style house, mannequin family, 1950s car of some kind (the US staff car, perhaps?) and a fridge to place Jones would be a fantastic value! Maybe a break-apart feature for the house to indicate damage? ...Or the circus train (maybe multiple sets for this one) from Last Crusade's opening sequence? You could do the loco, tender and a few cars in one, and the few more with caboose / Jones house facade as an add-on pack. -
I've had these ten train cars built for months now (years in some cases!) and thought I'd better upload them before I forgot again. The two old-fashioned freight trains consist of the following items (in no particular order): - red standard caboose - two boxcars - three generic open-top wagons - flatcar with rail load - OCTAN fuel tank car - livestock car with cow - green streamlined caboose This green 1930's streamlined caboose was inspired by a very similar real-world Wabash caboose located on the Katy Rail-Trail at St. Charles, Missouri. This caboose model (along with the green streamlined one) is inspired build-wise by the Katy Caboose (as in, "The Caboose who got Loose" from the children's book) model I copied in late 2021 from TrainedBricks' MOC. These two nearly-identical boxcars were inspired by set 7597 (Western Train Chase) from the 2010 Toy Story 3 line. They are 99% the same except for colors in a few places, as not many train cars are identical to each other - especially freight! The simplest car of all: a flat car with railroad track / rails strapped to the top in four rows. These three generic wagons cars are actually British Railways plank wagon models, not American at all... but they work well enough for me! These cars were designed by the_chestertonian, but sadly he deleted all his photos. This is just a quickly-mocked up tanker car in OCTAN colors. It's nothing too fancy, but it does look good. (to me at least) This livestock car was heavily inspired by 2014 CITY set 60052 (Cargo Train) but with a roof for more realism. I can now understand why LEGO left it open top in the set, but I managed to make it work. The roof (which was designed with the same look as the boxcars) is even removable and the ramps fold down so you can take out the cow. Believe it or not, the freight cars wouldn't fit in this box in any other configuration! That's all I have... Thoughts?
-
Makes me think of an old song about coal miners: "Sixteen Tons". This is just the refrain: "You load 16 tons, what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt St. Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go I owe my soul to the company store" Fantastic MOC, love the simultaneous realism and funny references!

Thomas the Tank Engine - MOCs of locomotives and rolling stock
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
There are less than twenty dollars worth of parts to order remaining for this devious locomotive. Next month, Diesel 10 returns to a railyard near you!
