Orient Express - New Locomotive and Carriages
Murdoch17 replied to PopsicleLEGO's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The front page of Eurobricks? Only moderators such as @JopieK can do that, and generally you don't get it by asking. (just so you know) It's usually a neat surprise to see models you design up there. In my 13 years of posting, however, only like three of my models made it. (And one wasn't even mine, I just posted it for my elderly dad because he doesn't do online really.) So don't expect it to make it. Just be surprised if it does! However, If you meant the first post of this very topic, you can edit your main post at the top of this thread at anytime by hitting the edit button. -
Thanks @Shiva! I just got 99.9% of the parts I needed for the hoppers in the mail today, and have built them.... still waiting on a magnet and two other parts my brother is providing, but other than that, they're done!

I gave up looking for the 72 remaining parts (seen above) I probably don't have and just ordered the rest of the NYC streamlined Hudson project. It cost $12 for the eight BBB wheels (that were combined with the 2-6-2's wheels and ordered a week ago) and a little over $31 for the rest of the parts once the shipping and handling was applied. So ~$43 for the whole project isn't too bad... it's actually practically a steal!

I'm glad you like the Hitchhikers Guide* nonsense I wrote on your Flickr! I was wondering if you had even seen it, but I guess you have. It's a great MOC too! *The guide entry I wrote there doesn't actually exist in the books. I just made it up on the spot!

Jedi Bob RETURNS? To quote another famous Jedi (but not as famous as Bob!): "This is where the fun begins!" -
@ivanlan9 The train is compatible, the trestle is not. The trestle is brick-built - no track pieces used. I also suspect it doesn't match any radius of track, custom or otherwise..... but I'd love to be proven wrong there, as it's just my suspicion. @zephyr1934 You give me too much credit - I didn't even notice that about the train shed! What I was referring to the old train station's tracks being too close together.

Th city theme was just starting out then. They were most likely throwing things at the wall to see what stuck, and the huge, road hog vehicles (as wide as the entire road!) didn't take off. As for the crane, we didn't have tall buildings (such as modular buildings) until 2007 and it was probably a good idea coming out at the wrong time. I bet if it came out tomorrow, it would sell like hotcakes.

Don't forget of all the MOC's being stolen by copycat companies! That still happens to this day...
-
Purple on a train? It's such a crazy idea, but it looks so good! Keep up the good work!

Down to 156 parts left to go for my streamlined New York Central 4-6-4. This means I've got less than a quarter of the 680 parts I started with remaining. (Also, the hoppers remaining parts were ordered yesterday!)

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

For the love of everything ABS, @Clone OPatra can you please shut down this thread? It's gone beyond ridiculous to absurd and is approaching insane... Personally it seems like a select few of the members are trolling the rest of us. No joke, I honestly can't tell anymore. -
I like the Old Train Engine Shed, and might use the PDF instructions to improve my skills once they are released. However, as it is it's too small for even my smallest locos, and I don't want to spend a fortune on something I'd have to double or even triple in length just to get close to most of my locos. I am also eyeing the 0-4-0ST from the Logging Railway. (Of course, it would have to be slimmed down to 6 wide and use BBB medium driving wheels to satisfy my tastes!) I fear the trestle from that set is going to frustrate so many people, as it doesn't appear to be track compatible in any way and looks incredibly fragile. These are much like the narrowness between tracks / side clearance issues like the older Studgate Train Station model seemingly has.

They can't do a three wheel motor with PF, so they turned the SD loco seen in the first picture into a GP by simply removing two axles from the loco. Also, I think somebody out there makes 3rd party replacement Maersk stickers... but I can't recall who.
-
*looks at name sticker* If this is Moe's train, where are Curly and Larry? Anyway, nice model... even though it's not LEGO.

Quick update on the hoppers: down to 106 parts in 12 types for a grand total of $15 before S&H. Will certainly be ordering the hoppers soon!

[MOC] DB Class 01 Steam locomotive w/ passenger car
Murdoch17 replied to -DoNe-'s topic in LEGO Train Tech
What about brown striping surrounding black bricks? (Basically a black box, with brown stripe around it) Would that look good? -
I based this vintage dump truck MOC off the Moving Truck GWP (set 40536) from last year. I made the cab 6 wide and added a new back half. Two each of these brackets are missing from the LDD file: 36841 in black is needed for the front bumper 36840 in yellow is needed for the headlights The rear of the dump truck with the bed lowered. The MOC seats two figures, while the cab doors open and the bed raises to dump the load. Free LDD file available at Bricksafe. Thoughts?

If they did the assembly build it would probably have to be to scale with Saturn V. This means it would be much too big to make work. My vote is for the old NASA Apollo mission control (The inside may be more famous then the outside, though.) or the radio telescope that accidentally discovered proof of the Big Bang: the cosmic microwave background radiation. (It would be great teachable set, but the issue is you'd make mad the Creationists who try to say God was how the universe was made, not the Big Bang.)

UPDATE: Remaining BL parts were just ordered for $16 while the BBB wheels for this loco alone were $24 (both before S&H). So I've spent $40 on parts for this project. I had 78 bricks from BBB and BL to order, VS the starting total of 479 bricks. This means I found just over 400 parts for this project... which isn't bad considering I started looking for parts just four days ago! I will update you guys on the build once it's complete, which should be in a week or so.

Thanks for the praise @Toxic43, but what you describe was a design feature from the original @SavaTheAggie build... all I did was flip them upside down and use different side rods. You can see what he did vs. what I did by comparing the photos. The above one is his. ... and here is what mine will look like. Also, side note: I ordered the 36 US dollars worth of wheels today, to be used on this model and the streamlined Hudson. The $25 in Bricklink parts are for this 2-6-2 are to be ordered tomorrow.

Back when Bricklink allowed you to sell custom instructions, I bought some plans for a small 2-6-2 Prairie-type steam loco from @SavaTheAggie in January 2014. I devoured them, used the techniques shown to make me a better builder. Now, exactly ten years later, I've revisited the model: I built it in LDD, (with some stand-ins for BBB parts) then went to town making it into my style, and now it's done in the real world. You can see Sava's original MOC on his Flickr page here. I changed the boiler to be studs-up instead of SNOT, and removed the squeaky old tiny wheels from the model, and made space for XS Big Ben Bricks wheels instead. (this actually was easier than I thought it'd be!) I added a bigger headlight, and a different stack along with heavily revising the piston / side rod assembly. As for the tender, different wheels were added and a 'painted' box put on the sides. The engine is numbered 119 and lettered for BRS (Brick Railway Systems), my original LEGO railroad that I began when I was in late-stage elementary school nearly 20 years ago. (Man, how time flies!) I also gave it the original black-and-red paint scheme of my first train MOCs from the early 2010's, as a nod to my past. This loco was my third set of instructions I purchased from Sava back in the day, although I had never built this one until now. (I did build the 4-6-0 and Berkshire I bought in 2010 and 2012 respectively, but oddly not this one from 2014) The inside of the cab. Thoughts? (Updated with new 7 wide tender 1/29/24)

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Murdoch17 replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
@legoturtle ....this thread is going round in circles. It's as simple as any one of the following (pick one): Possibilities of why Lego did not released the set: What was once an okay thing to release no longer is. The film has been criticized by Indians for almost forty years for many reasons, and people are more sensitive to that type of bad press these days. The original Lego set from 2008 just got lucky. The film is barely PG-13. If R had existed, ToD would have been that. (It was invented because of this film, Gremlins and a few others) LEGO doesn't make sets off R properties, and the film is WAY too violent / graphic. Too much merchandise left over from Crystal Skull's release across many companies in 2008 led to Disney being super selective on what they okay to produce. It's insulting to Hindus to depict Kali in such a fashion as ToD did, most likely especially in a children's toy. other reasons non-specific all of the above Any which way you slice it, it doesn't matter why it wasn't released. We don't have the right to know the reasons anyway, and so much guesswork a to the rationale is ridiculous. Why does any company do anything? Because they want to. It's as simple as that. end of discussion. And, to everyone: Let the conversation die. This poor dead horse has been beat so much at this point there is nothing left of it to beat! So please don't "@" me. As Elsa sang: Just let it go! Perhaps @Clone OPatra should just lock the thread, if possible? EDIT: sorry if this post comes across as rude. Every time i see this thread I get hopeful, then disappointed to see it's the same discussion going round and around. -
Main posted edited 1/7/24 to add in the new hoppers: I've changed the five hoppers to be dark gray versions of set 4536 - blue hopper car - from 1991. My reason is simple: less parts used = less money spent to order said parts. They are smaller, and I can get more of them built if I want to. I also closed up the top and got rid of the dumping play feature - the cars are now permanently full of coal. All the parts found so far and sections built for the five hopper cars. (The wheelsets have axles and wheels, but they just aren't installed yet.) I'm currently sitting at 167 parts remaining to finish all five 4536's VS. the 700 I would have needed to finish the old 10017 versions.
